It's always fun to see someone discover Ranger X because almost no one knows about it and it's one of the best games of the generation. It pushes the hardware while still being a great game. Crazy visuals, great music, fun gameplay and it's super replayable. IF ONLY THERE WAS A WAY TO LEGALLY ACQUIRE IT- since it was only re-released on the Genesis Mini 2, but never, before that. It's such a good game. I wish more people gave it a chance.

The Genesis Mini 2 is a hidden gem mini monster console. The first Genesis mini may have had the great games people know Sega, et al. put on the Genesis. But I found the Mini 2 had more games I keep coming back to play over and over.

When I was a kid, I had to spend something like 3-4 months in a hospital. In the entertainment room, they had Ranger X, where I played it and fell in love. When I got out, I got the game, and I have now beaten it so many times that I view using a continue on heavy as a failure. That game is absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend everyone emulate it just to see one of the best genesis games ever made and one of the best of the generation.

I love the story of why that show is called The Real Ghostbusters. In the 60's, there was a live action TV series called The Ghost Busters. The movie Ghostbusters has nothing to do with that show. They just have similar titles. The owners of the show wanted to capitalize on the movie's popularity so they made a cartoon based off the old show. Kids would turn it on, expecting a cartoon based on the movie, and get disappointed. So, when the Ghostbusters movie got a cartoon, they had to give it a title that would let kids know it was what they wanted this time, so they called it The Real Ghostbusters even though that's arguably not true.

One thing I really enjoyed about this episode was the one thing I've been saying this show should have more of: Back and forth banter between Jared and Dylan! Like when the segments transition between you both. Keep this dynamic guys! KEEP IT! Feels so much more organic and less a simple case of Jared sending his footage off for editing.

For all the flak the Zelda games get, the idea of playing as the Princess to rescue Link instead is still a good one. Also the animation could be described as breathtaking, just not in the way they intended...
@novauviolon
@novauviolon 10 ай бұрын
I mean, for 1993 the animated cutscenes were considered impressive and innovative, and critics reviewed them as such. Most people didn't know that the CD-i Zelda and Mario games existed until the late 2000s, over a decade after they came out and well after cinematic storytelling had become a key feature of video games. During the 16-bit era, hand drawn gameplay art was a totally different feel from regular sprites (we're a long time before Rayman Origins), and the animated cutscenes were like having an episode of the cartoon integrated into the game. But if you're a kid who discovers them for the first time around 2010 via KZbin Poop, after growing up with the 2000s era of games, you're going to have a totally different impression. And you're probably not going to realize that, within historical context, Hotel Mario's cutscenes were a lot more novel for the video game industry in 1994 than, for example, Super Mario Sunshine's were in 2002, whose cutscenes were more heavily criticized for already being outdated on release.

So I actually played the CD-i in it's heyday. My friend had it along with faces of evil. I have to say, while the TV remote controller was terrible, particularly since you had to constantly hold it up and aim at the system - which my friends dad had above the TV. Your arm would get tired and you'd constantly have missed button presses. The game itself was awesome. Keep in mind, most kids like me at the time only had NES and SNES to compare to. Seeing a game with fluid cartoon style animation and real voices was damned impressive

Ranger X is one of the patron saints of Hidden Gem games alongside Crash N' The Boys and Chameleon Twist. It's tough (especially considering I didn't have the six-button controller), but it is incredibly spectacular and has the greatest Genesis Explosion Sound (TM). I strongly recommend listening to the boss theme, it's so hype. "Transparent Obstacle" is trippy, it's the music that I assume would play if I was traveling through time.

Speaking of non-working CD-i consoles, the one I have works but only because one of my friends is a professor of electrical engineering and he fixed whatever was wrong with mine. I only have it in the first place because a collector was bummed that his CD-i was broken and he didn't feel like looking for another, so he sold his CD-i collection to me at the media pawn shop I used to work at. I have the Zelda trilogy and Hotel Mario and a bunch of other titles, but they rarely get played anymore.

13:19 Gauntlet II, for the NES, was also a four player game. It was very prominently advertised as a FOUR SCORE NES game in Nintendo Power. Gauntlet IV is the fourth main Gauntlet game. The main part of this game is a completely new adventure mode, where, one-to-four-players play Gauntlet as an action adventure maze game. Complete with a storyline and level bosses. The music is also incredible. As a side note, this was developer M²'s very first project.

I consider Gauntlet 4 the best of the 2D-style version of the game. Between the excellent port of the arcade mode, the Quest Mode, the 4 player co-op, and what might be one of the best soundtracks on the Genesis, it has remained the top of my personal Sega collection all these years (alongside Shining Force, Landstalker, and a few others). Thankfully, back in the 90s, I had the multitap, several controllers, and three friends who joined me (in different combinations based on who stayed over for the weekend) on eventually beating Quest Mode twice.

I think I mentioned it when Jared was playing the Zelda games earlier this year, but the animation studio that did the CD-I games also did animation for Kings Quest VII. As for The Real Ghostbusters, for those who may not know, budget animation studio Filmation (most famous for He-Man) ran its own Ghostbusters cartoon that started the same year as the cartoon based on the movies. The Filmation show had nothing to do with the movies, instead being based on a 70s live action show Filmation had made called The Ghost Busters. Their cartoon was basically a sequel to the live action show, starring the kids of the original protagonists. The Real Ghostbusters was titled such to make sure people knew it was based on the movies.

It's because of these games that we still to this day can't have a Zelda game where we play as Zelda. 😢

The actual worst version of Mad Dog McCree was the PC version, which had a PC Gamer (I think, it might have been a different mag) review of either 6% or 8%, out of 100%. 10% was basically the threshold for minimum functionality.

Here's hoping you get those Gauntlet games editor Dylan, remember having blast with Legends on the N64. Also hope you find an N64, though with your luck it will be probably one of those ones a parent bought as the display model they were looking to get rid of in 2002 for the 3 year old who only used it a plate that has a bright yellow stain on it that makes you wonder if it was made by play dough or American cheese. Next week predictions without googling them; The first of many games from one of the biggest cartoons of the early 90s: Ok, this one is going to challenging. Can't be TMNT, which at this point Turtles in Time had been out about a year and TMNT 3 had also released on the NES around 92 I want to say as well as Hyperstone Heist on Sega. I know Tiny Toons, had games released for the NES, Gameboy, Sega Genesis, and SNES, but I also clearly remember playing the Gameboy game on trip car trip to, ironically, Disneyland around spring of 93 so this can't be the first. Batman TAS had games on the SNES and Sega Genesis and CD as well as a PS2 title, but the term many makes me think there would more then 4. I know Taz had his own cartoon in the 90s and couple of games but I think they even out 4 as well, and I believe the SNES game came out earlier as well. Wait....oh god....don't tell me Barney had multiple games. You'd think one would be enough! So yeah I have no idea. PSA commercial turned multimedia franchise: Smoky the Bear had a videogame? Do or do not, there is no try: Super Empire Strikes Back. Unless you're talking about Yoda stories on the PC, or was it Mac?

One of my favorite things about Dinos 4 Hire, is the bios for each dinosaur. Reese's favorite movies are Terminator 1, 2, & 3*? (He hopes...) lol

@Edittor Dellan, a couple of things, that Tom & Jerry Frantic Antics is a downgraded port of the Genesis game, that version had you play as either Tom or Jerry or both simultaneously via co-op, it’s a similar case to Animaniacs where despite the Super Nintendo version being completely different than the Sega Genesis version, the Gameboy version is actually a port of the Genesis version, giving Super Nintendo owners both, in fact Animaniacs for the Gameboy has Super Gameboy support to improve the visuals, music and sfx, making it basically a downgraded official SNES port. Also I honestly prefer Super Mario Land 1 over 2 maybe because I grew up with the original or it could be because the sequel always felt like it’s pushing to graphics and gamestyle that it should not handle, making it too big for its own if that makes sense, idk. And I agree, I always liked Tom more than Jerry and you may be pleased to know the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear Tom & Jerry games had you play as Tom instead and you chase Jerry.
