Really appreciate the use of a "culinary" framework for describing differences in sound perceptions. I've been using that analogy for a while now to describe my journey through summit-fi in a way that I hope is relatable. Approaching from that angle leaves room for individuals to have their own subjective tastes while recognizing that excellent execution of any particular flavor is really what separates the good from the great, same as with food. I wanted Atrium but couldnt find any in used market, than I found vc in olive wood edition (perfect condition) so it was weird decision instead of open back I bought fairly expensive closed cans but at the end I never regret single penny. I'm very happy with vc, you just have to pair them with right pads

But now I'm drooling over the new abyss mr , so I would have to sell my vc for 19 plus in order to think about buying that , that would be my surely end to headphones if I can get it.

This is so helpful Tyler! What would say would be the best pick among the three if my collection consists of an Aeolus, Auteur, and Arya? I couldn't possibly part with my Aeolus (it's Indian Almond wood, one of a kind), but I could see myself letting go of either of the other two if something else trumps them. I think a headphone with a strong sense of impact is what I'm missing the most from my collection. Would the Verite (open or closed) or Atrium scratch that itch best?

That is a nice collection! I’d say for pure impact I’d go VC… but, if you want something more in tune with your Auteur, but with better low end stage and imaging I’d say the Atriums.

Hi man question, cause still debating betwern atrium and VO.. current setup is hd600 hd650 and utopia 2 with woo audio wa22 amplifier.. if u only choose one which do u prefer?? My genre of songs are balad, pop, christian musics and some acoustics

Atrium I think based on what you’ve said, would be my recommendation for you. It would be plug in play and would probably replace your HD600/650 listening sessions… and would be a nice compliment to the Utopia 2, but I haven’t heard the 2 so they could be similar… I recall people saying the Utopia 2 being less energetic than the OG and having more warmth. I’d still go with the Atrium over all as it’s generally a do all well headphone. The VO is more energetic but can be a bit too much for some. Based on the genres you listen I think the Atrium is definitely more a fit as well.

I prefer tube amps… but a nice solid state is awesome as well! I prefer solid states that are a lil warmer or not super neutral/clean. The wood used can have an affect, but it’s so minimal as not to be overly concerned about.

Was on the buy button on ZMF's shop for the Atrium, I already have a VC but since the contrast and difference is not that huge, I'll just stick to the VC for now. I really want to downsize my collection and just have one open back and one closed back and I was hoping that the Atrium would do that, really hope ZMF comes with something that will dethrone the HD800S in soundstage and imaging (As a general purpose headphone) and keep that ZMF house sound so I can finally just have two ZMFs and that's it instead of the mess I have now.

I have 1 open back (HD800S) and 1 closed (Blackwood VC), and I just picked up an Aged Cherry Atrium today, specifically to succeed my HD800S. I find the 800S great for gaming, classical/soundtracks, and of course the diffuse soundstage is neat. But, I've found that my VC gets way more head time than the 800S due to the tuning. I have a feeling that the Atrium will be more enjoyable than my 800S for my ears, and should also work well even for long gaming sessions (comfort, detail, imaging, and impact/fun factor seem to be top notch). We'll see... I can report back my findings.

@@asplmn Please do, I HATE the HD800S for music personally and I just use my other headphones (mostly VC, but I also have 8 other headphones and some are becoming more show pieces than actual headphones for use). I want to sell them all and just keep two headphones but I REALLY don't want the other one to be the HD800S because I really don't like them for music but I prefer them over everything else I own for everything else besides music. I got the MEST MK2 in my foray into IEMs and honestly they come very very close to edging out the HD800S for general purpose use but they are IEMs and they are in a carry case to take with me everywhere after I decided to retire the TWIEMs I had because I wanted something decent. I know very entitled way of thinking and most will be more than fine with just having an IEM for everything sound related but what can one do, this hobby is disastrous in terms of destroying one's "common sense" metric.

@@TylersEclectic Please do gaming tests for it, I have developed my own gaming performance judging system which covers two main areas, one is competitiveness and the other is immersion. Because not all games people play are snap shooters and most games are actually laid back (at least for me). I don't need to hear the footsteps of an army of high elves from a top down view of the camera but the music and battle sounds present a different experience than for snap shooters, same for RPG for example. As you might guess from the names what each category judges is completely different, for example the VC has slightly better immersion than HD800S but for competitiveness the senny still wins. The senny would win by its merit alone if not for the VC being closed back giving it that edge in immersion. So if the Atrium edges out or at least come very very very close to the HD800S in terms of multimedia general purpose use then I will get them, otherwise I don't want to be one of the many many people who are on their second or third HD800S because they keep coming back it it since nothing else really replaced it, or can.

No best… but, in my experience the VO/VC have more energy and detail… slightly wider stage, and mids are pulled back a bit in comparison to the Atriums :)

But I feel like I'm hearing kind of a shouty quality with the mid range/upper mids. Hard to explain, like I can't dial in the volume, I'm constantly having to adjust the dial. Can I ask you, did you have to burn these in? From what I've read about pad rolling, I think universe pads might help what the problems that my ears are hearing. Gonna give those a shot. As a friendly tip to make your content even better (you can ignore it obviously) - it's hard to keep up which pair you're talking about when you refer to them as "these" and you hold them in your hand in a darker room. At times I had to think about it and figure out and that distracted me from the actual commentary. Still great video and I ordered mine this morning and they are already on their way which is crazy! Expected here next week when I was thinking I have a month or two lol
