Yeah, 07 is an all time great. I've never took the time to watch the 05 version, but it didn't look too bad. I may give it a look. I have watched the Fincher version probably 10 times. It's not just a great Zodiac movie, it's an absolute masterpiece like you said and deserves far more acclaim than it has received.

David Fincher's movie is outstanding, if you look into the movie. He really tried to remake the Lake Berryessa murder. Hell he even transported *REAL* Oak trees and actually planted them in the *Real location* it happened. Plus, you know who helped him? The *real* Lake Berryessa male victim - Brian Calvin Hartnell. Thats some real dedication. Even the costume departement did a great job making the costumes look exacltly like the ones they wore in the 70s

Fincher at his finest. This is one of my top five movies of all time. Every character is on a journey. It's like watching a perfect circus performer juggling 17 items, then the camera pulls back to reveal he's doing it while crossing a highwire. Right from opening scene, there's not a single miss-step. And notice he never once hands the POV over to the Zodiac. It's a really easy, sure fire way to generate tension, watching with the killer as his victims come within sight. But...But it's also leaves you feeling just that bit tainted. Nearly every other film or TV programme would do it, exploit the hunter / prey dynamic. But Fincher doesn't take a single cheap shot. Every frame a winner. I'm not even going to bother watching the 2005 version...

There were no survivors or witnesses since they both died, hence Fincher didn’t include them in the film since nobody is 100% certain what happened. All we have is what some people who drove by and saw the car they were in as well as what the police at the scene were looking at.

They both really good films actually. I have to say, when I saw the Fincher film, it *felt* less real and more Hollywood, while the 2005 version felt less like a Hollywood movie and more like a documentary - but was more scary for it in a way. Specifically, I remember the scene with the couple killed by the lake seemed much more scary in the 2005 version, b ut maybe that's just because when I saw 2007 I sort of knew what was coming.

Funny that. The 2007 version is much more accurate. The survivors were consultants and were able to one to one recreate the crime scene, with crime scene evidence to help also. The story is also essentially the same as real life. A little bit was dramatised. Specifically Robert Downey Jr.s character.

I love the 2005 portrayal of the first killings and the taxi killing better, the cinematography looks better and feels more real to me and not as Hollywood, but the lakeside killing will always triumph in its disturbingness though the actors in the 2005 feel more real to me and not as polished and Hollywood, plus they had that scene where his head leaned back and the killer was coming up in the background and that just looked great.

Considering the impact of the story the 2005 version is better for me, it has a different perspective, no time jumping, it showed the first murder and how slowly it was becoming a creepy story, how the locals' fear was increasing, the first one that got the case being dragged to an horrofying and difficult case. The 2007 version had more than 60 million in the buget, it was focused on the chase, mistery, it is more an adventure movie and for that it is interesting to watch, the end of the 2005 version was more realistic also. But people who preferes hollywood make quick judments on independent movies. They are usually better and more real but the public are not used to.

@seanking1775 you're diminishing him, he is Hollywood, it's a fact, the popularity of the film it was majority due the cast and fame of the director, by the reviews of the 2005 version mostly prefer the new version because of the actors and big production, you not considering that it's silly. I said about the content, the direction of the 2005 it's not inferior in any point, only the budget and the fact it's an independent movie, not a big Hollywood one, it's pretty obvious.

Not accurate. The 2007 version is more confident in its lingering, long distance shots. The 2005 version uses MTV style jump cuts which appear fancier to unsophisticated film goers, but are actually the sign of an amateur.

The Zodiac 2005 was much much more darker, quieter. The whole movie had a calm scariness to it, plus the Zodiacs voice in the 2005 was WAYY Better. David fincher version is cool, it's more of a big budget mass appeal movie. Where as The Zodiac 2005 Film makes you stay up at night in your bed Wondering if that dude was ever Truly identified, or even Alive. But hey that's just my two cents.
