The Zombies continue to have a profound effect, most notably thanks to their 'Odyssey & the Oracle' album, which along with its hit single 'Time of the Season' was released after the band had broken up because they could no longer afford to stay together because of bad management. Jonesy, unfortunately in this case, knew nothing about his guests. But I will add that Rod Argent penned three all-time classics in the Zombies' 'She's Not There' and 'Time of the Season', plus 'Hold Your Head' up when in Argent. He has also done soundtrack work; worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber on 'Variations; was part of Shadowshow with Colosseum members Jon Hiseman, Barbara Thompson and Clem Clempson; and is a producer. Check out recent live clips of the band doing 'Time of the Season' to hear Rod doing his solos on a Hammond - fantastic stuff. And Colin's singing is so superb. He and Rod make for such a great pairing.

You are right, it certainly was an opportunity lost due to a lack of knowledge of their incredible musical legacy on Steve's part. But the banter was nice and relaxed. I liked the version of 'Time of the Season'. Steve showed them absolute respect, but yeah, I'm such a massive fan of Odessey and Oracle myself.

Great conversation. Nice version of Time of the Season. Was thinking Manzarek’s keyboard solos had a similar feel to Rod Argent’s while listening that time. Glad Jones brought that up. Feeling greedy now, want more from these three chatting and playing.

The Zombies were a bit too early for me but Argent was the first big concert I saw in Manchester, UK in 1973 with the Russ Ballard original line up and remain one of my fav bands. Hold Your Head Up great 1972 single.

Colin Blunstone " Easily " One Of the " Greatest " Vocalists the UK has ever produced!!! And the same obviously applies to Rod Argent whose " Keyboard Wizardry " Has proved to be " Truly Captivating " 4 Decades !!! From Adrian Browne 1965

If you noticed Jonesy chuckling it's likely because in a show where he was the interview subject, he told the interviewer that he had been a peeping tom and a thief. He talked about getting into one venue in London - the roadie left to guard the gear was sleeping - and stole the bands cymbals, pedals...everything he could steal, including the microphones.

I'm guessing the only band from the 60s and 70s who didn't get ripped off was Led Zeppelin? That is a constant refrain I hear from both UK and US bands at that time---whether it was the Zombies, The Faces, The Pistols, Humble Pie, Grand Funk---they all had shady managers who ripped them off! They all signed their lives away to schysters and crooks!
