Accompanying music by A Tribe Called Red
On May 1st around 3:30pm President Obama received a message from a Navy SEAL saying "Geronimo- E KIA" the code meaning Osama bin Laden is dead. We humbly disagree.
Geronimo was a product of his environment. A human. One with flaws. One with enough history that the person charged with defining who he is can shape the narrative any which way he likes. People chase him today, just as they did then. His story, or peoples versions of it, lead us to this point where we are today. But this poem isn't about Geronimo is it?

He is Mr. Atkinson in Oklahoma, who authored Resurrection After Rape, who gives voices to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and abuse. A teacher, friend, social worker, therapist...that let us sweat with him, in a sweat lodge he built from the earth with his hands, our tribe of survivors, as our tears fell on those hot Grandfather Stones last May. He is Geronimo. Namasté.

What I understood was a people reclaiming their heritage and their identity by not letting others dictate who they were, who they are, and what they will be. It is in regaining the narrative of one's own history that allows knowledge to foster into self-empowerment and freedom. A'ho

I gave water to my fellow Marines when it was hot, gave them the last bit of food I had when they were hungry, stood watch when they were sleeping, motivated then during toughest time, I let it be known that I would put my own life down for them, and I would do it all over again if I had too. I'm a US Marine from Copper Mine Az Navajo Nation and I AM GERONIMO

A'ho, I don't think you meant Clearlake California, but my great grandma survived The Bloody Island Massacre there. I don't know how she did, she was so young. But she survived. She's Apache/Pomo.

He lives in every Native American that stnads up for who they are and for protecting there tribe against the government that trys to buy and sell there sacred lands. He is always around us with mother nature he will never die he will always live forever in us Native Americans.

Are you kidding me? Geronimo was a savage murderer. He bragged about killing 500 or 600 Mexicans. He had no remorse about killing entire families. Natives complain about Italians celebrating Columbus but think that Geronimo is some type of hero. Disgusting.

Im An Apache my clan is WhiteRock or Ni Llath kii. Geronimo is More Than a but less than a god. We have songs about him and in each and every single one of those songs he flys in a white horse he rides over us the homeland he fought for san carlos arizona I would post a song but I got no way of doing so but the stories of him goes great when told by an apache.

He is the Portuguese foster mother in Oakland, California who cared for three Indian boys under 10 because their own father was an alcoholic WPA worker and lost their 27 year old mother to cancer.

Perhaps if they were looking for a name that they can associate with a terrorist they should have used the code "Christopher E-KIA". It would have been more accurate.

Supposedly it was because killing Bin Laden was Step G of the whole operation, but nothing stops them from just using another G word, like Giraffe.

Geronimo is me. I am part mexican Indian my grandfathers tribe is from Chihuahua Mexico. Geronimo was born on Mexican land and showed us to fight and never give up the fight and never forget ones ancestors.

It would be so cool if this great video could be set up like "It Gets Better" where other tribal people can add their piece -- so many stories, so many warriors. Thank you. I hope the president and his staff and everybody working on that hill and in that white house who do not know these stories will see this. It would make them better leaders if they knew the people and the stories represented here -- the first peoples of this land.

Great Video! I was mad at that Geronimo bullstuff too. Two things you guys leave out. Wanji (1st)There are 22 million natives in Mexico 55 million in Peru...several million in Latin America as defined by blood, language and culture. There are many more people who are native in those countries if you count only blood. Please, don't forget them, pilmaya.

Machetazo i think you might have missed the point my friend. its not about what HE would have done but about his legacy that is in all native people. therefore he is alive in my brother who is a Marine and has done a tour in iraq and in afghanistan and will come home to help native children who so badly need it
