This is one of the better-produced music videos of the last 5 years!!!! The song alone is absolutely gorgeously written, but the video director nailed this music video with a perfect blend of nostalgia, love, loss, and growing old while maintaining a youthful spirit of lasting memories from a life that's been otherwise potentially mundane. This is like that smell that reminds you of a moment of pure joy or that car ride to the concert 2 hours away with friends you are afforded to reminisce with. Those whom you've shared the moment despite the growing empty chairs at the table of life.

I don't even have words for what this band means to me. It always coming down to the four of them in the end is such a beautiful sentiment to friendship and where friends can take one another when they hold each other close and believe in the vision of themselves and the others. People may not like this band for the style of music or whatever other reasons, but the true, genuine, incredibly real love shared between the bandmates should always be recognized and respected, because I don't think I've ever seen a band do it the way they do, they're true soulmates and it's beautiful.

This is so classy. It’s such an appropriate video because I think this band has a lot of older fans as they are the first musical act in many decades to make truly timeless music. There are classic bands with music bound by and defined by an era. Then there are bands like The Beatles, The Stones, Everything But The Girl, Steely Dan and The 1975 who make timeless music. There are others who make timeless music but it is a short list and I can’t say that there was anyone on this list since the 80s. There have been some very good indie rock bands and some neo Soul bands who had classic songs but they were hit or miss. The 1975 writes consistently stellar music and they always present great theater. They are inspiring so many younger musicians to think bigger. And the bond this band has is amazing as well. The dance sequences in this are just, it’s cinematic.

it's so appropriate considering how the chorus is, for the most part, about choosing a name just because it feels right. you totally gave the song more meaning by adding your own, which is what music is all about. This such a sweet metaphor for growing, experiencing love in its purest and primal form, and keeping the honest and most real friends close to you. Notice as a old man he listening to this song in the headphones (representing him reliving his life through memories and music ) Caring for a girl he would do anything for but regretting, the decisions he made ( notice the walking over tables, and breaking glass) , as to say they are stumbling through the up and downs of relationships, but eventually loving and growing together. As a he grows he learns from those mistakes and as he grows older he just falls more in love with her to lose her. She stays in his memories through music and dance and his friends stuck with him through thick and thin cherishing him and how far they have come. A story about loving with your whole heart and holding the ones you hold dear close because we don't forever on this planet.

Somehow seeing an old Matty dance alone makes me sad because I think he's someone who finds it hard to love another or be loved, but if/when he does actually love he loves very deeply. Seeing him dance alone, old, to me is like watching a Matty who has learnt to love, but has also lost the person's physical presence. Made me cry lol.

I have been a fan of this band since the beginning of their music career. It has been amazing to witness how they have grown and flourished over the years. Watching this music video brought me to tears. I was literally sobbing. If you are an old fan, you will understand why. Even though this was a concept for the music video, seeing the band members in old man's prosthetics made me realize how genuine their love for each other is. If someday things might change for the band, I hope their friendship will always stay the same. Nothing will change because I want to grow old with them too. And if that time comes, I will always look back to the time when I started listening to their music and where I started with them.

You know, I've been following this band since the 2013 and I've seen my life unfold to the soundtrack that is their music. I can remember how old I was, what I was feeling and what I was up to for each album. When I do a deep dive and listen to the old stuff, those memories come back to me and its the most beautiful experience. It also, however, reminds me that time has passed and I'm getting older and that is a scary fact to confront. Death is scary, to me, because I dont want to miss out on memories with my loved ones. While watching this video I was forced to confront this fear even more due to the make up, and I cried, not out of fear, but out of gratefulness, with the realization that I even have these loved ones and fond memories to look back on. I will forever be grateful to this band for the music they have made. It has captured my feelings, made me want to dance and made me want to cry. Their art is second to none in my opinion. Seeing them together and older was a very beautiful and powerful sight. Much love and thank you!

At first, I saw this song as a very driving and happy one, it gave me an emotion I couldn't name at first. But after seeing a live performance on it, I've felt that it's not a happy song at all. It's a song about missed and lost opportunities, lost loved ones and relatives, and loneliness. It's like a review on a life in the inevitable end of it. I picture it as sitting on a porch of your house by yourself, in quiet and (finally) inner peace, drinking whiskey and rewinding through the happiest memories of life you had with the ones you've loved the most. Those are the vibes I'm getting from this song.

Most of my favorite songwriters understand the idea of "sad hope," that there is a bittersweet quality to life. Doctor Who said it: “The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't always spoil the good things or make them unimportant.”

I’m a bit of an oldie, 38 years old, and all my music is from the 60s to the 2000s but there’s one artist who gets in my collection from today’s music - and that’s the 1975. I have zero interest in anything else but with them, I’m fascinated.

54 years young, and still digging them. Last show before pandemic shutdowns was The 1975 in Chicago - just off the charts awesome.

i wonder if Matty would have stayed this time if the fans hadn’t been so visceral with him and her going public
@susannahu919 ай бұрын
I genuinely think he would have stayed; he has a “bad boy” reputation but actually he’s a hopeless romantic and whenever he picks somebody is bc he’s serious about it (i.e. he’s been with Gabby 4 years and 2y with fka twigs

Agree. So sad anyone tried to interfere in her personal life. She couldn’t be a more vulnerable and giving artist. He is too.

It’s funny how some people you spend a short time with when you’re young, live in your memories for decades to come. There is one girl that lives in my memories…..we reconnected a few years ago. She lives in London; I live in Toronto. I’m a partner in a law firm in Toronto, she’s managing partner of a small publishing company in London. We’ve both built our lives at different sides of the ocean and neither of us are willing to give that up…..but it was nice seeing her once last time….Oh Caroline.
