Having now owned two Z31 variants (an '85 300ZX Turbo 2+2 auto and an '86 200ZR-I 2+2 manual), don't expect them to be sports cars out of the box. It's much more of a GT kind of experience, one that takes well to sweepers over hard, sharp cornering. If you want one, having a limited slip differential is very important in taming the semi trailing arm rear suspension. They're very practical, very comfortable, and fast enough for normal driving. The NA VG30E should not be overlooked, as you can get a near Busso like audible experience for way less than a similar condition Alfa GTV6. Do a thorough inspection of the body for rust and corrosion, know that they're all timing belt (and interference) engines, and understand that parts availability from Nissan is getting scarce for some components. It's a chassis worth researching and paying up for a solid example, if you want one. Prices are on the rise, globally. Hagerty valuations place them upwards of $65,000 USD for the nicest 50th Anniversary Edition, but cars can be still had under $10,000 (Note: Hagerty's numbers come from public auction results and client valuation data). If you want one from Japan, excluding shipping, the best 200ZR in the world (a '89 200ZR-I 2+0) is currently for sale for around $125,000 USD, with most JDM Z31's priced around $12,000 to $50,000 USD.

would you recommend one as a first car for someone with relatively little knowledge about cars in general but enough drive to learn?
@Runescape. Жыл бұрын
around here you can buy them all day long for 1000 dollars shitboxes.
@shingoose6197 Жыл бұрын
@@glixealt8420 Depends on your budget. They're very stout V6 engines, turbo or not, and very reliable IF you buy a well looked after example. The 2+2 is very practical, they all get decent fuel economy, and they're comfortable on the highway. Try one out, see if it fits your driving style and location. Not the best city cars if your city has a lot of traffic.

as an owner of a 1987 z31 na manual i have to say. Its great fun, the car just weighs more than you would think and its quite large for a 80s japanese car. The engine and transmission can both handle around 500hp but the diff can only take about 300ft torque. If something breaks goodluck finding parts. IMPORTANT the z31 fender molds were never saved so there are no replacement fenders, no fiberglass or carbonfiber, only the original fenders are left and they are about 500-700 dollars. Parts in general are quite rare and hard to find. Luckly we have a great community on discord where a lot of people have been 3d printing and making parts for others.

Owning a 86 na z31 2+2 digital dash version for the last 5 years traveling all over Florida to Georgia to Miami and back drifting with them is absolutely great but don’t expect to be going crazy fast make sure you get a lsd from an 87 the 86 is absolutely one of the best choices as your base due to it allowing full compatibility with each years parts a few have issues within year compatibility and with a lot of parts being rarer to come by every day it makes the z31 experience smoother, I’ve seen them piping up alot more lately and this video gives me so much hope for possibilities in the 31 community to grow! Thank you and good luck to everyone on there fair journeys

Z31 & 2 engine bays are considered the most cramped out of all the Z chassises-Definitely recommend a 33 or 34 if you really want a Z & that’s something that bothers you but keep in mind that’s just how it is owning any Z.
@shingoose6197 Жыл бұрын
Z31 isn't bad, actually. They're two very different cars that share the same family of V6, and you could get a VG30DE in a Z31. But that engine bay took much better to the largest sized engine that was available. It's an updated S130, which is an updated S30, so it fits straight six and V6 engines well. Maintenance, in terms of accessibility, is easier than you think.
