@@99knives22 How DMC5 is after sequel to DMC2, where Dante got his Majin Form on DMC5? Why Dante from DMC2 turns into a quiet, mature, and serious character into a goofball in DMC4? What happened with Vergil when he had Nero, and where's Nero's mother? What ever happened to Lucia? There's so many unanswered questions, and parts of the story doesn't even add up. They should have hired creative writers and editors to create the story, before they released the game.

GhostCell47 dmc2 has majin, yes. dmc5 has sin DT on the other hand. similar functions, but evidently different forms. as for the contrast of personality between 2 and 4, i like to think of it as dante finding out he has a living family member in nero and subsequently becoming a bit more chipper. note that he still isnt the goofball he was in 3, but just a bit of a snark with a silver tongue. plus, depression comes in waves. dante is clearly depressed in the anime (ie drinking his sorrows away, wanting to be left alone) and we can retcon this into his characterization in 2 being his lowest point. sometimes you just have better days than others, though, yknow?

​@Carlo Mejia It wasn't the importance of humanity, the human race, but the importance of his own humanity. He realized he was stronger with than without. Without, he got destroyed by Dante. With, him and Dante once again became equals. There's also hints that this sibling rivalry isn't something he cares about too much anymore. Before he would fight with a more fiery passion, now he just seems tired with it, fighting simply out of stubbornness to not lose. I don't think he destroyed the roots to protect humanity though, he destroyed the roots because he realised he had a personal stake in keeping the world alive, his son Nero. He's not grown much, but he has grown.

The way I've seen Vergil's rejection of humanity for being a weakness is because he loved his mother, and losing her obviously hurt him. So his rejection of that side of him and his pursuit of power is so that he can never be hurt again, both physically and emotionally.

It's really frustrating when I see Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, ESPECIALLY the latter, be dismissed as dumb action shows when they really have A LOT of thematic depth. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta are probably the closest parallels to that in video games. Metal Gear Rising also seems to get a lot less analysis than other Metal Gear games. It really feels like people just ignore the depth of narratives whenever over-the-top action is a primary focus.

If you think about it, the points explained here are exactly why Dante agreed to plunge down to Hell with Vergil at the end of DMC5. As you have stated that he took up the role of mentoring others in the line of devil hunting, he already saw that potential in Nero but he also realized that the boy was nowhere near ready to be entrusted with such task. But after the events of DMC4, Dante came to accept Nero as a capable devil hunter in his own right. With people he wanted to protect around him, someone he loved beside him, and the power he needed to protect them, Dante believed that Nero had everything he needed to be the next Legendary Devil Hunter, in charge of defending humanity from demonic threats after Dante's passing. Hence why he entrusted Yamato to him, and also gave him permission to use his shop's name for Nero's own devil hunting shop. And that's why he can feel at ease when he left for the demon world for the last time in DMC5, because he knew that the human world is left with a new guardian-- Nero, son of Vergil. The nail on the coffin that made him a good guy is finding out that he has a son, Nero, in which he took a fancy after he saw that a being of only 1/4 demonic blood was stronger than him, a half demon, proving that his way of doing things, which was embracing solely his demonic side, was wrong... it showed him that one's humanity makes one stronger.

Devil May Cry overuses certain tropes and character archetypes, it's cheesy at times... And yet somehow it works and it doesn't feel like another generic storyline. It works. I think the reason is that, like you said, there are several underlying themes that shine through the over the top action and ridiculous dialogue (LiiIIiiiGHT lol). And it all comes together in a very complete experience. It's... impressive, really.

It makes sense the new timeline cause if you think about it. In the Anime Dante doesnt take demons that seriously he just staps them like they were weaklings and I think thats what's up with DMC2 Dante he has become so much stronger than the Demons are not even a challenge for him. Until he mets Argosax, Right Before Dante finishes Argosax he smiles which to me I think is that Dante considered Argosax as worthy foe. And by smiling he says "Yeaah Let's go all the way to hell" something that I think the Dante from 3 and 1 would say. What Im saying is that after his fight with Argosax he has regain his cocky style attitude and then the events of 4 came and we know how awesome he was.

Until he met Nero, another hybrid, he actually know that he’s not the only one half demon half human besides his lost brother, so he was happy again and regain his traditional behave as in dmc3

DMC3 is the Hot Topic of DMC games. If it wasn't for the some of the weapons and the Chess battle, i wouldn't have even bothered to like it. Because i can't stand this game's portrayal of Dante and Vergil. DMC3 sits even lower in the ranking than DMC2 for me. that's quite sad. DMC1 Dante was a lovable bastard and the Nelo Angelo fights were some of the best in the series. DMC3 Dante is cringey asshole and Vergil is a one-note character with daddy issues.

The whole statement of DMC being way deeper than the classic series just goes to show that most would rather give praise to Easy, Melodramatic "Art" which may pander to their misery; then something that can challenge both their perceptions on seemingly simple works and their will against challenges which may ultimately resolve the very misery they fight. I know that's what the series has done for me, and even if DMC5 somehow bombs, I'll always appreciate that about Devil May Cry; Hell, about Gaming itself.

Wait, was I the only person who was playing the Devil May Cry games for the plot more than the gameplay? Yeah, they're tacky and cliche at times, but I've really been enjoying the story since I bought the trilogy pack for the Playstation 2 years ago. I never even really tried to get S Ranks until like my third playthrough of DMC4 when using all the different characters. The reason I was upset about the DmC reboot *was* because it seemed to be trying to kill the dumb but fun plot I liked so much. I'm just glad DMC5 is picking it back up.

Like, I love the Vergil bossfights with all the tactics and technicalities, but nothing gives me that bittersweet feeling when Dante emerges afterwards and talks to Lady about devils never crying, or when Lady finally kills her father, but breaks down afterwars. Dante is pretty much the representation of of light in the darkness you have to open your eyes to see the light and look towards the future. He was a dark soul who hated his lineage but came to accept it in order to bring light to the darkness.

As something of an amateur hobby writer, I always found this franchise to tick some boxes for me. With the nature vs nurture basis of the plot and the general overarching story. You've probably put it into better words than I could. I've had a lot of struggles in life with familial and personal abandonment issues, so I always found it really easy to sympathize with Dante at the beginning of DMC3. And I appreciate that he can come around and put his issues with his father behind him. It's something I wish was easier for me. With that in mind, I'm really interested to see how (and if) DMC5 handles Nero's relationship with Vergil, and how he interacts with our motivated boy. (If he's there.)

FUCKIN' THANK YOU! I've been trying to tell people that DMC is deeper than it looks. And I adore the character Dante for all the same reasons of seeing him grow and progress as a character. A thing I do wanna add we see him actually see him mature through out the series. We start with him being really immature and cocky and through out we see him mild down and mature and learn from experiences and teach others, he isn't afraid to enjoy his work too as we seen. He's comfortable and is happy to help other's lead a good path. The DMC reboot with Donte however... Oh I could make an essay about it. All it is is an edgy adaptation with no heart or love for the characters. Donte is everything that we know and love of our white haired cowboy. Even taking the nostalgia glasses he's a poorly written character and the game itself is poorly thought out. The Dante we know and love however is a deep character. We seen him struggle and even when he's uninterested he's more than happy to at least step in to help others. He pushes himself to be better even when he isn't aware of it. And for me at least.. That's some of the reasons why I love Dante

Those who claim the story was "bad" in DMC games either just remembered the gameplay and didn't pay attention to the story or mistook Dante's cheesy one-liners for bad writing. I honestly had someone try to tell me Dante didn't really have a personality beyond "cool guy" you were supposed to experience the game through. Which... is technically not wrong, at least the latter part, but if you think that's all it is then let's be honest, you're probably not playing for the lore enough to care about it or pay attention. Which is fine, just don't claim you know the story if you didn't even pay attention.

The huge diference between japanese devs and western devs... that, from my own experience.. Is that japanese devs are going the Show... but dont Tell way of doing things. Whille western devs are Show BUT also tell. Japan wants you to experience the game yourself. To explore and see things for yourself. To come up with your own conclusion to things. To read how people react, what is said. How its said and when its said. Whille western devs have to make sure you know about everything that is hapening, what is hidden between the lines and tone and so on. Because they see people are mentaly retarded that they cant figure things out themselves. You see it a bit to much today when it comes to characters. Where there is no real mystery about people or stories in a video game. Everything is explained. And the things that you DONT want to know, they tell you those things anyway. Because you need to know everything about a character... Not leaving anything for you to imagin... or think could be a possibility. Japanese devs give you a character, they have their personality, past and so on... But they dont really go all out when it comes to a character. ONLY the important bits. Reasons behind what makes them who they are. Nothing more. Nothing pointless. The rest, you have to uncover..: or imagine. What was their past like. Because these character NEED to have so sort of mystery to them. What they have done in the past. We dont need to know that right NOW. Right now is what we are there for. We get snipets of what the person is like by their actions. You can see a hero walk past a bush... a bright red rose is sticking out.. he gets angry and shoots it with a gun. Making you wonder, WHY. What hapened in the past to make him so angry over a red rose. In a western game they would stop there, go into his head right after he shot that rose and explain everything.

Yes! So much can be seen through how characters react- facial animations, movement, there's just so much to dig into. That's why I love FFXII. There's just _so, so much_ to dig into- the glances between two of the villains, and the way they'd greet each other, revealed tons about their relationship. Little moments of tenseness or silence, seemingly inocuous quips here and there, accents mattering _a lot,_ a tale of two empires almost going to war overhead... needless to say, I was very, very obsessed for -months- _years._ I felt that was missing from Mass Effect, for example. The games were really, really blatant- well, there was Mass Effect 3, which all but said outright Shepard was being Indoctrinated (It was obvious- dreams, oily shadows, wierd reaper sounds all over, really obvious kid hallucination, big time ending hallucination, Saren and Illusive Man-esque choices at the end...), and people didn't get it when it wasn't spelled out literally >.< American gamers expect the game to blab on and on, and _repeat stuff over and over again_ to the point you feel you're being whacked over the head with *understand me! understand me! Deep themes! Deep themes! I swear! Deep! **_Whack!_* E.g. I understand the story of MGS, KH, most FF titles, fairly well. They're not _that_ complicated, and sometimes have plot holes because if you get enough games it happens- movies or books have that too. For story, I get my fix mostly with japanese and indie games, or older western titles. Fallout 1 and 2 had a fair bit to munch on. I love Baldur's Gate.

@@Olivia-W You're really citing FFXII as a show don't tell story? xD People here seem to be describing pieces of media as if they are exactly how they percieve or extrapolate them to be rather than what they are. I've played FFXII about 5 times because I love the gameplay and the last time I tried really hard to work out what was actually happening in the plot but even the direct monologue about all the different countries and wars went right over my head because the characters *constantly* have to deliver exposition to the player about almost every single thing in the game whilst being bested only by FFXIII in how one dimensional they really are from a character standpoint. The characters don't even seem like they even remotely like/dislike/have any feeling towards the other characters.

@@TheRetroPerspective Ok, FFXII's story is... not for everyone, and in the latter part falls apart pretty badly. I do recommend watching the cutscenes as one giant movie, too. The basic rundown is- two Empires, Archadia and Rozzaria, two teeny kingdoms between, Nabradia and Dalmasca. Archadia expands, crushes Nabradia, Dalmasca fights back, king of Dalmasca gets offed by Judge Magister Gabranth posing as twin bro Basch (admittedly convoluted), witnessed by Vaan's big bro Rex. Dalmasca surrenders. Time passes (~1-2 years I think), Vayne Solidor comes to Rabanastre, capital of Dalmasca, to be consul. Vaan and Penelo watch the speech, then there's the banquet. The resistance, led by princess Ashelia, attacks during the banquet, while Vaan is sneaking around and finds the treasure room and the Dusk shard. Vaan meets Balthier and Fran (who seem like partners who've been through some shit together), they all run because guards, the _Ifrit_ bombs part of Rabanastre because whatever Judge Magister is giving orders up there in the sky is a moron and/or possibly has a grudge against Vayne and hopes the aerial assault will kill him. I could go on, but I'm probably boring you... ok, they could have delivered some of this better- or just made a summary of what happened in the bestiary. Edit: name correction

I have touted myself for YEARS as a huge Devil May Cry fan. So much so, that I have played the reboot, enjoyed it, and defended it from both fellow (classic) dmc fans and newcomers to the franchise alike just because it was another dmc title and because, imo, the gameplay was objectively enjoyable. I have always, always, always, told people that the series isn't about the story, it's about gameplay. That it's just about looking cool in combat while pulling off ridiculously awesome combos. While that may still remain the focal point of the series, I give you major props and mad respect for proving me wrong about the story. You make your points well and back them up with in-game evidence or canonical literature. Awesome job. SSS rank for sure.

I will never get why the plot of the reboot gets so much praise compared to the original series. Yes it's more up front and in your face but there's less depth, the cheesy charm is replaced with edginess for the sake of being edgy, and the characters are stripped of any likability. Dante goes from likeable asshole to just plain asshole, the girl who's name i forget has no personality compared to Trish and Lady and her conversations with Dante are stiff as a board leaving no discernable reason why she caused a change in him other than wanting to tap dat ass, Vergil has no honor and just becomes a bad guy because he was a bad guy in the original so the fans just expect it.

The problem with DmC which bothered me the most was how FORCED their attempts of storytelling was with blatant shoving of symbolism in cutscenes and political nonsense they attempted to string into their plot. I like DMCs stories, they just fit with the universe and what they originally set out and didn't try to be too complex. I think a story is great when they hide themselves with a mask (DMC being a heavy over-the-top action game) and once you bother to analyze deeply, you appreciate it a lot more. DMC never holds your hand from gameplay and not even from a story perspective and that's just awesome. If there's anything from the reboot I enjoyed, it was the visuals. I'm kinda glad that's being carried over into DMC5 too lmao. Anyways, great video! People only analyze DMC3 which I don't REALLY blame them, but you talked about the entire series instead and especially DMC2. OH, and I believe they were planning to add "Perfect Devil Triggers" or something of the like into DMC4 at one point and with concept art of Nero and Dante's DT's as well so you're not entirely out of pocket lol.

It's better this way. Dante actually has a consistent personality now. 2 being right after the anime adds to Dante's overall character arc and progression, it makes DMC2 a whole lot better. It also makes the series' story as a whole really good, apart from what we've already known.

Damn, less than a week away until DMC 5 hits the ground and you bring out such a thought provoking video. You're not making the wait any easier lol. While not devoid of any positive merits, namely some gameplay stuff, the shitty reboot just never understood the themes of the series if was supposed to improve upon. I'm still baffled on why it has Devil May Cry in its name (twice) when neither the theme nor the name is ever mentioned in game. I mean, donte is a goddamn vagabond in that story. What, was his trailer called Devil May Cry lol? If you're trying to reboot a beloved series and change an iconic characters like Dante and Vergil forever you better do such a fantastic job that everyone is impressed and they have no choice but to accept the alterations. I think a big issue with DmC: Devil May Cry is that Capcom wanted it to be "as western as possible", and at the time, everyone was going for a "Grindhouse but not grindhouse" feel with their game's stories. Just look at Hitman: Absolution if you need an example. If you look at a lot of the concept art for DmC, there were quite a few interesting ideas, but Capcom wanted what we got instead. Ninja Theory's cocky attitude about their game did NOT help what so ever.

I'll admit that I came into the series with the reboot after seeing Shammy mention it (and later found out he didn't like it either), and after playing them al, lots of thinking and lots of videos like these, I can see the reboot in some of the negative light that most fans had when it was released. It still is very good in gameplay; but what it lacked most wasn't a simpler combat system, but a proper depth in the story experience (very laid out, but the They Live/subliminal messages do play to that strength) but most importantly didn't bring the fun, humour and charm that the good versions had. The reboot really was just mean-spirited in vision which carried out in its marketing and story. Great video, lovely stuff and am eager to see more.

Based on some leaks for 5, the overall plot can actually be explained pretty damn well through the emotional state of Dante. If the leaks about V are true, the first novel may actually be canon, thus making everything except the incomplete comic series canon. Certain events, as per the new prequel novel for 5, are actually considered canon from the first novel, so perhaps they are adding legit lore as to make this all functional. In which case, it would result in Dante being so depressed in 2 because he has now killed his brother twice, killed Trish sorta, and has no idea where she is. He has no idea if she is alive or dead, and as far as he can tell, he has lost and potentially killed every single person important to him that has any demon heritage at all. That shit has to hurt.

After watching this video I have a question, can DMC5 considered Vergil's Awakening? When V comes back into himself Griffin Nightmare and Shadow decide to not come back with him to put and end to Vergil's nightmare, can we condider this like Vergil's humanity Awakening? He decides to sever the Cliphot's roots and Seal the portal with Yamato because of Nero, doesn't this make him human again? In DMC5 thanks to V we can finally see through the veil and anknoledge Vergil's humanity After all. Yep I love Dante as a character & I enjoy DMC for the story and gameplay. But in regards to Trish, I honestly think Hideki Kamiya intended for Trish and Dante to be romantic partners. I get that some people are bothered by it because she looks like his mother, and you say their love is "closer to a sibling love " but there's a lot to indicate they're as Hideki Kamiya tweeted "more than that". And that's not just counting Viewtiful Joe as different facial models put on the original characters (it was Kamiya's idea to do so, why would he do that instead of swapping another female) but there's a lot of other hints: - If you look at DMC1's concept artbook Trish is kissing Dante's neck. - Eva's lullaby song (DMC1 credits song) is titled 'Dante & Trish ~ Seeds of Love'. - In the Divine Comedy (DMC's loose inspiration) Beatrice (Trish) is Dante's lover. Beyond that there's also subtle things in other games - MvC3 Trish says: “Now we know who wears the pants in the relationship.” - to Dante (victory) - DMC4 Pachinko, Trish as Gloria, Dante says: "That look suits you, I might want to pair up with you sometime" - DMC4 Pachinko, Trish and Dante dance in a few scenes, body language indicate romance, much closer than anything we see when he interacts with Lady. - DMC5 Morrison/Nico's File indicates there's no romance with Lady but something more with Trish.

I always had the mindset that Dante blamed his father for his mother's death and kills demons in honour of her but then he soon accepts his demonic half to exact poetic revenge. The term "fight fire with fire" in 4 i feel like he was somewhat depressed, almost considering to let the small town burn until he sees how Nero is motivated by doing the right thing (i feel i am wrong here). Dante could've ended the whole thing in a brisk afternoon but he doesn't and it looks like by 5 he is just average. I feel that the chronology of the games you see Dante's stages of grief, father is gone, mother is dead, brother is alive then missing then undead then well depending on the stake of Devil May Cry 5 possibly alive. By the end of it all, Dante is alone in the world but he created his new family with everyone on his adventures and he has a job to do. Side note: he could've ran away from all of the chaos and started a family but he didn't, he stood by the chaos and turned it into peace.

One thing the new timeline adds is making Dante's personality shifts in 1->2->4 somewhat make more sense. In 2(and the anime) Dante just realised his life purpose while accidentaly killing the last family he had, of course he'll be less happy go lucky throughout 2. He starts 4 somewhat similar but is sorta cheered up when find out Nero is linked to sparda like him, and somewhat returns to his 3 personality. It's obviously not something that was necessarly planned, but it works out pretty well for a headcanon at least.

Lore has always been there even though it has not always been portrayed very well in this series, that's why I really feel that the latest game hit is out of the park. Even to those casual/newer fans of the series that aren't engrossed in the lore quite yet, the storytelling and emotions felt by each individual character were on point this time and really emphasized the trademark atmosphere they've grown over nearly two decades. They've always had the combat down, the characters are unique and recognizable (even Nero came into his own much more in this last game), and the up front storytelling of DMC5 was the final nail in the coffin. The reason i like to play Devil May Cry and follow the original series (not reboot) is this story plot. Like someone wants to stop bad relation and their desire to protect their family. It’s indeed emotional and the way that the antagonist is not really a villain totally. I mean if only that thing didn’t happen to vergil, he wouldn’t be like this, also remember that nero would also turn like his father if Kyrie and Credo never exist in his life, but thank god they exist (they help the storyline even though Credo died).At the end finally Vergil understand how important about humanity and he could change himself. His obsession made him choose power over family. I judge totally by his character because mostly introvert character like Vergil didn’t like to do “that” if not because of love. Mostly they just wanna focus on their target/something they obsessed and ignore other thing like “that’s not my business”. Nero’s mom tragic fate also solid proof that power is not everything. He has power but he couldn’t protect nero’s mom (i believe he actually love her when they meet). This is just my assumption but this is really match with Vergil. I know this also because there’s so many male character who believe that if they had those things (money, power, position, fame, etc.) they would be the best and the one he loves would happy which means they didn’t believe in themselves. Honestly, when you speak about Vergil’s motives, it makes me appreciate and understand Vergil’s psychological trauma and inner turmoil. Even if he is still kind of a dick, a bit less Dick-ish in DMC5 and I’ll get back to that later, he has his reasons for locking away his emotions and anything that made him feel...well, *feel*. He rejected humans, his emotions, his past, his existing family, and his life in general, and only wanted the megalomaniac desires that drove him to this point. This is supported even more in the likes of DMC5. Tearing his son’s arm off just to get back his trademark blade, ripping away his humanity to birth V, and eating a fruit more dense than the blood of thousands of humans. But the thing that is different about DMC5 Vergil is that...he’s actually MUCH different compared to other games. Sure, there’s his design, but that’s called aging people. But what I’m specifically talking about are his specific looks and his personality. First, his looks, take a good look at DMC5 Vergil. He has a lot of V in his facial structure, could be just me and some other folk but I think this is significant. But the most important part is his personality. When Vergil arrives at the top of the Qliphoth Tree, he says something along the lines of: “If our places were switched, would our paths be different? Would I have your life? And you mine?” This is important because, when you think about it, Vergil would NEVER in a million years think of that in the past due to his much stronger disdain for Dante. But it’s different here since, in my current belief, V must have had some change on Vergil’s mindset. His tone of voice seems more mellow, more at peace somehow. He isn’t as cold as before and isn’t as much of a smartass. He’s calm, cool, and a bit more relaxed and casual. You can even see him humor Dante more than usual in the ending scene with him and Dante fighting off demons and each other where dialogue goes as I remember. Dante: “Score one for me. I’m up one!” Vergil: “Where did you learn to count? We’re even.” Dante: “You know, I’m beginning to think...this will never end.” Vergil: “Maybe...we got plenty a’ time.” He has much more relaxed dialogue with Dante, as if they’re almost having a real conversation, at least somewhat. Maybe I’m overthinking this, some might say. You could be right, but hey, that’s just my point of view. (Some influences come from Super Best Friends Play)

In DMC5, it's cool how the Devil Trigger turns from humanoid to more demonic. I'm not sure if that means that he's embracing more of his demon sides but who knows!

I think it's worth mentioning that Nero ends up having a huge impact on the end of DMC5, stopping the fight between Dante and Vergil, albeit by force for the most part, they managed to find a common ground that fell in line with Dante's ideals. The way I see it, that's a sign that Dante really did his job as a mentor and is able to "trust things on that side" to Nero. Kinda feeds into the idea of the student surpassing the master, though surpassing would only be in idea as opposed to in universe power.

Agreed, DMC 3 is honestly the best when it comes to the narrative and story out of every DMC game. For gameplay it's rather debatable if you compare it to DMC 4 that is.

Why would Ninja Theory or Capcom want to do the same exact story all over, when they have the flexibility to try something new in a manner that doesn't ruin the original series? If you didn't like it, cool, but it didn't hurt the originals in any way. Why put someone down for liking it?

@@ouroboros5793 nah I was referencing the "I've got a bigger dick" quote that Vergil literally said in that game. Apparently he can stand those but not dmc 3. Which is fine if it is his preference but still weird in my opinion. Im not putting anyone down or anything, its just that that is literally one of Dante and Vergil in trait in DmC. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing either. It could be someone's cup of tea. But its definitely not mine or even most of dmc community's. On the contrary I actually liked DmC... Well most of the game anyway. The gameplay, animation, ost, and graphics is good. But thats it though. The character changes and dialogue is too much for me. It didnt hurt the original in anyway? Doesnt ruin the original series? This is the game who "mocked" their own protagonist with that "Not in a million years" hair joke. Not to mention Capcom's original intention was to continue with this reboot instead. Practically abandoning the original series Good thing that most of the community went very loud to the point where Capcom changed their mind and here we are... DMC 5. (Actually they backpedalled to wanting to make DmC 2 first then DMC 5 after that, but it looks like they scrapped DmC 2 completely and went with just 5 instead) Well in my mind saying something as weird is not putting anyone down. Its not that I go on a whole f-bomb insults or something.

I thought Majin Form was a sort of instinctive last-ditch defence, that Dante couldn't use at will, before learning to harness the same power and gaining access to his Sin Devil Trigger in DMC5, since he'd only be able to activate Majin Form in 2 if he was almost killed and we'd also seen him use that power once before in his fight against Alice in DMC3 manga, at which point he couldn't even access his regular Devil Trigger yet.
