And with the Nightwolf DLC in MK11, his wolf companion Kiba, from Defenders of the Realm is incorporated into the games, though MK11’s Kiba is a spirit instead of a wolf who merges with Nightwolf. Nightwolf’s depiction in Defenders of the Realm, where he is a normal guy who turns into Nightwolf, may also have been responsible for MK11 establishing Nightwolf to be a superhero-like alter ego passed down through the ages and onto certain chosen members of “Grey Cloud’s” tribe.

Its like they create a game(lets say... MKX) with something in mind for the next game(Raiden as antagonist?) but when they start developing said game(MK11), they come up with a completely new idea that makes the previous game almost irrelevant. I know this didnt start with MKX, even in the previous games they had the same problem... but now its more obvious. In MKX they made Raiden become a badass merciless(?) character and then they fucking kill him off after a few chapters in the next game. Mortal Kombat has the potential to actually have a good story. Not only the best fighting game story, but actually compete with other videgame genre... yet they fuck things up everytime.

MKX clearly stated Erron was never a member of Black Dragon and yet he appears alongside Kano in colloseum (neither of which were there) so they retcon him into MK9 events as well. Kabal was a police officer by this time and he got his super speed after he got burned and Jade recieved one of the most hamfisted romances i've ever seen. It feels like every game has a different writer who only gets basic plot details of previous games.

Xertaron Kabal is the one that frustrates me the most they literally can’t get his story straight after establishing it in mk9 when they the ability to when you have a fully fledged story mode but also will help to have bios that will give us more information about characters don’t know why they got rid of bios especially when they can’t stay consistent with their story and so many things not being explained in their story mode in which character bios would help

it's for one thing the movie did right, was greatly improve the designs of the orignals. The entire mk 11 line up of cast looks like their move counterparts. The only exceptions being kitana and the other ninja girls. Shame they didn't do the same for raiden, for I always felt Raidens character was the most boring, and that the movie did him perfectly.

It's extremely fascinating how Mortal Kombat is one of those franchises that sometimes study on their own but then copy their friend's homework anyways. That isn't a bad thing, its just that some decisions are kinda strange or aren't fully realised to their potential. Which almost seems to be running thing with the franchise and that really sucks because my goodness there is so much you can do with series. Also I hate to ask you this but uhhh... How do you feel about another Mortal Kombat movie? (sorry I just had to ask). They are having the production take place in South Australia (of ALL places) and as an Australian I don't know how to feel about it.

Honestly I was kinda joking about the about the shooting location (I should've made that a little more specific but that's my fault, but let's agree that Adelaide is usually the butt of a joke next to Tasmania.) I do think its great that blockbusters are being filmed in Australia as it can supply jobs and economic benefits. It makes good business and that's all good. I just think people were caught off guard when news broke out they were choosing SA for the production, as it is an unusual place to shoot a movie. I don't hate that idea, it was just a surprise gift I didn't expect to get. As Snake said, he hopes that it takes the mistakes before it into consideration and improve upon what has been done. I personally have some faith in the film, James Wan is producing it and I hope the director and writers know what kind of 'Mortal Kombat story' they want to tell. It doesn't have to be super good, but I would at least want it to be on par with the 95 version or be better than that other movie we shall not speak of. Also hopes to an R rating and some stellar stunt choreography.

@@The4thSnake It probably will be like Legacy, I feel, because the screenwriter of the movie shared a picture of two lines from the script where Jax and Kabal talk, which was a picture that's been floating around in old forums around the time immediately following Legacy, so it's safe to assume that he wrote the script quite a while ago, way before MKX anyway. It's probably the same one Kevin Tancharoen wanted to make a movie of and since James Wan is now involved too, I don't have high hopes. :(

You forgot a lot. JC and SB's relationship was indeed introduced in comics, one of the comics' ending was JC SB making a movie together and they kiss after filming. Another influence that came from MK Legacy would be Ermac's face, as Ermac's face was never shown in game till MKX and it was given face tattoos like in Legacy. There was even video footage of Ed Boon talking about how much he loves that design in a release party live stream that Machinima did that had Ed Boon and the Legacy cast playing MK9 and answering questions. Also, the Jeff Roven novel had a concept that inspired the One Being. I'm sure there's more you forgot, but good video non the less.

For the spear on Scorpion part, the movie making the spear as a demon projectile coming out of his hand would make more sense (at the time) as Scorpion was already dead and probably had the spear embedded into him. Though when Scorpion return to the living in the reboot it would make more sense for Scorpion (Grandmaster Hasashi) to finally shoot the spear normally from his wrist rather than having a demon spear coming out of his hands. It works both ways I guess.

In a way, feel like it helped out MK as a series. Being a kid that grew up on the first MK game and all the way up to MK11, some things just work for a franchise based on trial and errors as they bounced around different ideas and influences. Maybe the ideas they saw in early iterations were like "hey, maybe we should do that instead". I mean, look at Ermac. He was just a glitch of Scorpion/Sub-Zero and now he's a "sorcerer-style" fighter. At least it helped them try to develop the characters and what kind of story they wanted to go for in the long run with MK9's reboot coming off as a more "cohesive" and "stable" story re-telling of the MK Trilogy OG. It's more I can say for games like Street Fighter that keeps their characters stagnant. At least King of Fighters has on-going story arcs every 3 games with a 4th game being a "Dream Match non-canon" version. Tekken does this well. But, it's nice to see that Williams entertainment to Midway to Netherealm basically bounced around ideas for the MK characters using different media. Talk about "never go with your first draft".

It’s possible that the writers for MKX were originally to use Kana & Jubei as the names of Scorpion’s deceased wife & son, but they decided to change their names to Harumi & Satoshi later on during development. Since comic book tie-ins based on video games are written while the games are still in development, it’s more likely the guy who wrote the MKX comic and later MK11 saw an early draft of MKX’s script, and just wrote the characters similar to that, instead of the final game. I don’t think it’s true, but it’s definitely possible if that was the case.

Slight correction, Scorpion's Spear actually is situated on one of his hips(can't remember which one) throughout Deception and Armageddon I'm unsure on MKDA though, This can even be seen on both Shujinko and Kreate-A-Fighters in both games. Shujinko's ability to use said spear is likely a result of Onaga's given power and Scorpion training him considering that I would assume Scorpion's Training canonically consists of a decent amount of Spear moves that are unseen due to not being in gameplay.

Trevor Goddard didn't portray Kano as Australian! He's cockney English, though a lot of american (Primarily I assume) audiences somehow conflated the two and so Kano became a sort of weird hybrid cockney-accented Australian-slang using... I guess he's actually Australian now too despite having more of a cockney accent in MK10, which sadly was changed to completely Australian in MK11. Not that it really matters, just wanted to point out it's actually much more complicated than it at first seemed.

"Trilogy" was affected first, I believe. they went with "you've got to win 10 tournaments to invade", which is the invention of the movie. MK9 retcons aside, MK4 seems to be the most affected by non-game changes in the canon, and the most inconsistent. you can see Tobias couldn't maintain the same level of consistency there, for whatever reason (given where the company and John were at the time, I bet it wasn't all his fault).

Actually, it isn't the invention of the movie. The games before Trilogy weren't specific about how many victories are required to unbalance the furies, but the MK2 comic mentions it.

I seriously think Mortal Kombat could build a universe that would compete with Marvel. Imagine getting solo films for the ninjas and team up movies for the special forces characters and Shaolin Monks. Raiden would be the connection between them all and the tournament would be their Endgame, or hell even Armageddon

The4thSnake Ehhh I’d have a bit more into it. -Scorpion is the poster boy for MK and deserves the first film. This should be a tragic story of Hanzo being killed after witnessing his families death at the hands of “Sub-Zero.” Quan-Chin resurrects Scorpion as the first revenant. Scorpion is now his henchmen because of loyalty and the promise of getting his family back. Scorpion would travel around and find “artifacts” that have been taken/lost. Probably fight a few familiar faces along the way. Ultimately he faces Sub-Zero, kills Bi-Han but, learns of his mistake. It was Quan-Chi all along. Kills him and this will trigger a series of events to the tournament. Replace the idea of Raiden being Shao Kahn’s brother, have Quan-Chi be the adoptive father of Shao Kahn instead. Kahn’s “father” is now dead and he build this tournament as an excuse to eradicate Earthrealm and seek revenge. After credits scene is Raiden visiting Scorpion and simply asking him for help or to come with him. -Shaolin Monks. A brotherhood story of them simply defending their temple/town from an invading force led by Baraka/Goro. They win and Raiden visits them in the end. Special Forces. Actor Johnny Cage requires escort to a mysterious island for a new game show. Escorted by Sonya Blade and Jackson Briggs, Johnny is brought forth to Shang Tsung’s island. Shit goes down and Johnny learns of his strange power and Ermac shatters Jax’s arms. Sonya battles Kano after having his right face seared off by Scorpion from the first film. Slight romance is introduced and they’re ultimately saved by the famous Shaolin Monks. Grandmasters. This film would be of Bi-Han’s younger brother Kuai Liang. Him becoming Sub-Zero and ultimately beginning on the path of revenge. Unlike Scorpion, he will never follow through and must fight his demons. Noob Saibot will be present but never his enemy until the end. This should be an emotional story and one that features Raiden for a time. And lastly the tournament. That’s my film plan lol
