Both MK9 and MK11 are in-continuity reboots. Specifically they do the "Grand Reset" trope. Basically, they wanted to try and do a Crisis on Infinite Earths style story for MK11, but without 90% of their cast (living or dead, not that it matters cause Kronika can pull dead characters out of her ass anyways) and any sort of respect for their own canon. Unlike Crisis which, you know, *did* do that. Grand Resets only work when they're significantly rare in a series, whereas in MK it hasn't even been a decade and they've had 2 out of 3 games do it. Not only that, but erasing everything only feels earned when they bring in everyone, as if you're gonna kill an important character (either to the story, the fans, or the lore. Which for MK is almost every playable + a good few dozen others) you better make damn sure you give them a good send off. If they were going to pull this bullshit, the *base* roster should've been Armageddon-sized and the story mode should've been a good 5 or 6 hours (cutscenes only). And they need to stop retconing stuff on a whim and only do so when there's an actual reason to.

Her presence muddles things up. There's Titans now, but what does that mean for the One Being? Because IIRC, she says before her fight with Liu Kang that the realms are no more, which would mean the One Being would be restored. But nothing comes of that. So has the One Being been replaced with the Titans?

The One Being is mentioned a lot in battle dialogues The Titans and The One Being on the same level they both can erase the realms and recreate them but The One Being was defeated by the Elder Gods and conscious split into the Kamidogu's but a titan can erase the elder gods and prevent the one being.

I don't really trust the battle dialogues for reliable info since they also give D'Vorah the credit for killing King Jerrod, when everything else tells us Shao Kahn did it. 2. And if the Titans are as powerful as the One Being, then there's no way in hell Liu Kang would've been able to calcify and kill Kronika, considering he only recieved Raiden's power while Kronika absorbed a God herself. The One Being had to be split into the Realms in order to keep it down, as not even the Elder Gods could destroy it completely. This is ignoring that we've were explicitly told back in MK:D that "...in the beginning of time, there only existed the One Being and the Elder Gods." The Titans are a retcon. And not even a good one. Their entire concept is just the Greek Titans myth copy and pasted over. Nothing added to them to make them unique to MK.

@@machine1685 When Kronika say about the realms are no more, she meant the timeline that Liu Kang and the rest has experience. What Kronika do is reset the flow of time, not erased the existence. So yea, One Being is still dead because only time were reset but the universe is still exist. One Being is an entity that live since time immemorial. After it death that the Titans manage to restored order, creating history and place Gods as the guardian of it.

@@shawziiz5031 Those are 2 different statements, though. She says- and I quote- "The realms as you know them are undone. Erased." The realms are erased. He can't save a future that no long exists because the realms themselves no longer do. So by Kronika's own admission, she undid the realms. Thus, the One Being should be revived. There's no other explanation as to where Liu Kang and Kitana are at the end, since Kronika's keep is in Earthrealm, but the ending seems to be in a void. And as for the Titans, afaik the info you have isn't supported anywhere in the story so Idk the validity of them. The history of the Elder Gods and the One Being existing since the beginning doesn't work if the Elder Gods are the children of Titans. I believe Cetrion even says that the One Being predates everything, saying: Cetrion 1: "We are children of the One Being." Cetrion 2: "As are all Gods of the Realms." Cetrion 1: "Then why destroy what it made?" How could that be true if the story tells us that Cetrion is the child of Kronika?

Kabal was wasted as both versions were just minions for the villains. I can accept undead Kabal being a minion but past Kabal should be a good guy, why is he working for Kano? Apparently MK9 takes place in several months, I am sure Kabal reformed earlier than the Outworld invasion since he is partners with Stryker so why the fuck would his MK2-3 version work for Kano or even listen to what he has to say? Also, not only did they forget past Kabal was a good guy, they forget that Kabal also died a hero. Cassie: *seeing Kabal* Isn't that one of Kano's goons? No....? That's someone who fought and died on the same side as your mom and dad when Shao-Kahn invaded, why does no one care? Noob was wasted, he gets sucked up in a Soulnado, previously when this happened to Scorpion it brought him in contact with the Elder Gods who made him their champion, so wouldn't it have been interesting if Noob got this fate instead? Like, imagine this, during the Lin-Kuei bit you have cyberized Lin-Kuei that are also corrupted by Noob, making them even stronger, Sub-Zero and Scorpion barely manage to deal with them and when one of them finally beats Noob, it turns out he was just toying with them and a clone knocks them out while they are distracted. The player character is unconscious and the other character is captured and out numbered, it seems like Noob won and then...he's blasted with a big blast of light. The other character looks to see who fired it off and sees someone who looks similar to Noob, but made of light instead of shadows and has his mask off so its clear its Bi-Han. Getting caught in the Soulnado brought him to Heaven similar to what happened to Scorpion and the purity of the realm managed to eliminate some of his corruption, so when offered the chance to be a champion of the Elder Gods, he is capable of accepting as he has a slight bit of humanity and is eager to help his brother and atone for the murder of Scorpion. Bam, you have a good Noob/Bi-Han alongside an evil one so you get both versions and they can have very similar powers with a few variation specific differences. Noob actually matters to the plot and can have character moments with Kuai-Liang, Hanzo and his past self instead of just being another useless jobber. Frost was wasted, yet again she is the failed student turned traitor. Why the hell wasn't she with the Kombat Kids? You have two Special Forces, Shirai Ryu, Shaolin but no Lin-Kuei? Imagine in MKX you had Frost alongside them, you had someone similar to Kung-Jin who wasn't too much of a team player but even worse but eventually through team work she warms up to them and becomes a better partner, or maybe give her a rivalry with Tekada, maybe she is pissed that Scorpion and Sub-Zero made peace and just treats Tekada like shit until something happens that makes her grow to respect Tekada and simultaneously the Shirai Ryu. Hell, you could have it to where part of the conflict is her overblown ego where she assumes she is better than everyone else, is consistently proven wrong, saved by Tekada and thus gives him and his clan respect but all the losses really gives her an inferiority complex where she feels she is worthless. Cut to MK11 where she dissapears with Sub-Zero not knowing where she is but during the Lin-Kuei chapter he runs into her, and it seems like she betrayed them for power, becoming cyberized to become stronger yet after you defeat her you find out that no, she didn't betray the Lin-Kuei, she actually attempted to save them from Sektor and was captured, cyberized against her will and once broken free, her last act is to destroy the Cyber Lin-Kuei similar to Cyrax, redeeming her and giving her an heroic death as opposed to what they did instead...nothing. She is the same character as before, no change what so ever except instead of being power hungry she is a child who wants attention. Frost: Raiden didn't pay attention to me, Sub-Zero didn't, the Elder Gods didn't, only Kronika Senpai noticed me! >:c Ermac, Smoke, Mileena, Shang-Tsung, Quan-Chi and Shinnok should have been in this. The first five were at the Koliseum so should have been present when Kronika merged the past and present but since the past and present are merged, decapitated Shinnok should have been replaced by normal Shinnok from the past similar to Raiden. I don't know what it is but I feel like NRS despises reusing characters from a previous roster, even when those characters are still involved with the story NRS decides to cut them out of the playable roster for no rhyme or reason, either they are NPCs or ignored in the game entirely. Just bring them back, keep a similar moveset but add some new moves and improve on them instead of ignoring them completely.

Well, it did end up fucking the lore so bad that there can't even be a story anymore unless we get into inter-dimensional shenanigans. But I did like that the story focused on the main MK characters and NOT the Kombat Kids(seriously, they're so boring), and that it redeemed Liu Kang and Kitana after two games in a row of their personalities being portrayed completely out-of-character. MK9 and X, for some bizarre reason, both portrayed living Liu as a scowling, short-tempered, judgmental asshole and living Kitana as a spoiled brat princess-stereotype. 11 finally restored humble, burdened Liu and shrewd diplomat Kitana.

When NR killed Mileena in MKX and made Kitana evil I honestly thought they were setting up a heroic Mileena in MK11. It was the perfect setup to flip the premises between those two. There was still at least 1 clone left in the pit that we see in MK9, so it would be possible. Instead we got a complete waste.

Smoke is mentioned by Noob in pre-fight dialogue. Only as a way to mock Sub-Zero and that's it. So yeah wasted. Kabal in MK11 is still the Black Dragon, so he didn't even meet with Stryker yet. There is no way in hell MK9 Kabal would've believed Kano. Past Stryker could probably convince Past Kabal to leave Black Dragon, but that's probably the only thing he could add. He's wasted, but once again there's not much they can do with Stryker.

You should definitely do a Wasted Plotential on Kabal. He could have had a Kenshi-like role helping out the Special Forces as one of the good guys who were brought back from the past (with his experience with the Black Dragon helping Cassie out when Sonya and Johnny were taken away by Kano). They could have featured him have the change of heart that made him break away from Kano and the Black Dragon (because we've never actually seen that depicted in either timelines). He could have led a rebellious circle of Black Dragon members who defect to the good side for the final showdown as they are sick of Kano and Erron Black who don't realize what would happen if Kronika won, which would make the Black Dragon be more than just money grubbing thugs and seem like an actual clan/brotherhood. At the very least, they could have shown more Kano and Kabal interaction because we've never seen much of that in either timelines despite both of them being high ranking members of the Black Dragon. Evil Kabal in the NRS timeline is little more than another goon for Kano (basically made him into Jarek but cooler looking) which is sad considering evil Kabal in the old timeline basically singlehandedly revived the Black Dragon and feuded with the Red Dragon, with Kabal presumably winning by getting his revenge against Mavado by killing him and taking back his hookswords. The possibilities were endless... They simply HAD to make him yet another jobber huh?

Plus, since Scorpion is Mr. Goody Two-Shoes now and no longer the anti-hero we saw in MK9, Kabal could have been the next major anti-hero who'll work with the good guys depending on the situation (thereby making Kronika seem that much greater as a threat considering even bad guys are teaming up with the good guys to take her down), a lone voice of reason in the Black Dragon. Kabal has always been level-headed (the opposite to Kano who is comparatively deranged and will do anything that benefits him) and the whole point of him reforming and becoming a cop with Stryker in MK9 was to prove that he could think for himself and had a moral compass and that he wasn't just another henchman for the Black Dragon. He never really reformed in the old timeline; he happened to be among the chosen few whose souls were spared to fight against Shao Kahn (which is why he went back to being bad after MK3). But he did become good of his own accord in the new timeline and they completely wasted that character development for a game that already had too many villains.

@@caesar1700 Kabal reformed in the old timeline. It just happened after MK3 and instead of becoming cop he became a vigilante. It says so in his ending (where it also reveals what he's a Black Dragon because his bio says what he's just some mysterious warrior, who was almost killed by Outworld Extermination Squad). He went to being bad because Havik saved his life after Mavado almost killed him and stole his hookswords. Feeling indebted to Havik he let himself get convinced by him to restore Black Dragons and become it's new leader. He doublecrosses Havik in his Deception ending by killing him and stealing from him Onaga's heart (which gives it's holder power to resurrect the dead) thus cementing his descent to evil.

@@caesar1700 As far as I remember, Old Timeline Kabal didn't just went bad after MK3. He went into hiding and got caught by Mavado, and almost killed, weren't it for Havik's help. Then, the clerich of chaos revived Kabal's old desire for chaos (given how the Black Dragon used to be an anarchist organization) which makes him reform the Black Dragon under said desire. By the way, your idea is great!

For me, the story was lacklustre and really blew the lore after MKX.Putting aside the recast of certain characters and poor voice acting, I felt like the devs didn’t know exactly which character to focus on. Scorpion and sub zero, Cassie cage and Johnny cage, felt so important, yet at the same time they felt like mere side characters. I felt like right after a chapter of a character, that said character was just left in the dumps. There were too many, they didnt know who to focus on. The storyline did not pick up where it left off. Where was Takeda and Kung Jin, the main characters of the previous game, but no where to be found in 11, not even mentioned? And kenshi? Though in the krypt, there wasn’t a proper disclosure of his character, Ermac as well. Kitana uniting outworld and launching this huge army against Kronika, only to be reversed and to never be there in the first place? And didn’t Kotal Kahn pledge allegiance to Shinnok in MKX, after finding out Earthrealm was consumed? Kabal was a good guy as of MK9, was in the police force with Stryker. But when they merged, why was he still still part of the black dragon? What happened to Enenra, Reptile and yeah, Stryker? Sindel? The plot of this storyline was nothing compared to the brilliant MKX. The only thing saving it now is it’s multiplayer.

But Kano saw it comming and kicked him out before the plan was executed which prompts Black to go on a revenge path. In MKX pre-fight dialouge Black stated that he could barely stand any of them and also have killed one of their members. Also Black being retconed in pre-fight dialouges as Shao Kahn's lackey (like D'Vorah) was stupid.

2:00 So I got thinking about your Mileena suggestion, and I think I've got one more thing that would *really* improve it *and* fix the "Kitana kills Shao Khan in a straight up fight" problem. Going with your "Mileena joins Kitana's forces to liberate outworld" direction, Kitana infiltrates the arena in secret while Mileena leads Kitana's army disguised as her in order to draw the Khan out. Mileena will fight Khan and lose, *badly* but before Khan can finish her off Kitana will catch the distracted Khan off guard and kill him with a sneak attack. Mileena *could* die from her injuries here, having the opportunity to say a few parting words to Kitana before she goes, but this depends on if you want to keep her in the story or not. Personally I think it would be a better end for her character than *anything Netherrealm has given us*. This gives us a satisfying inversion of Mileena's original purpose: to be a perfect body double of Kitana and be a puppet of Shao Khan... along with what I think would be the best possible way to give Mileena a meaningful death. Bonus points if the mask falls off just as Khan is about to finish her, the shocked realization on his face as Kitana decapitates him from behind.

So far in 3 games only 6 kharakters came back from the 3d era as playable, and instead of bringing more of them and reworking them into good characters they just create new ones who just do the same thing. I see no reasom for someone like Erron Black to be made into Black Dragon when we have 5 others members who have yet to make a comeback to the series in some form,or instead have Tremor who could totally have been replaced Erron Black in all his stories appearences... I think that there is actually better solution to all this: how about NO time "travel" bullshit, no "past and present" characters, and NRS actually wrote a competent story of a hero (Raiden) descending into madness, unleashing his anger on Outworld and Kotal Kahn, other heroes being split over whether Raiden is right in his actions or not, which could lead to heroes VS heroes fight (like Civil War), while also showing that Liu Kang is the only one who even stands a chance against Dark Raiden and have him defeat his former mentor. Of course, new characters can all stay, although i think that Cetrion would make better main antagonist than Kronika (can't stand her). Have Cetrion be the one to inspire Dark Raiden in his actions, because she needs another dark powerful being to be balance to her light (like Shinnok was). Of course, I'm not saying that my story is spectacular, but i would just, for once, want to see heroes in actual peril, to be afraid for their lives, instead of just watching them walk from one opponent to another, while also making terrible jokes that even MCU writers would be embarrassed off. Just for once try, NRS. I gave MKX's story a pass because they wanted to introduce new generation, but then i would want to see them be a big part in new storyline. But no, let's just keep rebooting over and over again and go back to old characters who were milked up to the point that they serve no purpose in the story. I would want, one more chances/one more shot with the old, Revenant cast of MK3 before passing the torch to the new blood. Stryker, and Kabal story can give more background on the Black dragon (even how Kabal quit and became a cop), and they along with the New Gen Special forces can end them. Smoke. They were literally in the cyberizing room and from what i way one of the interactable cores on the far right seemed like somthing smoke would have. You can even use it and literally uses a smokey from of teleportation (like in Triborg) to send your opponent into the air. Like wtf why not just implement smoke, hell why are Cyrax and Sektor not playable as well. I mean you fight both and Cyrax literally regains conciousness why not add him to the roster. You fight Sektor too so why not add him. And components of smoke are literally in the map. Missed opportunity.

Despite all of his achievements, he still sees Liu Kang as superior to him. Few take Kung Lao seriously as oppose to Liu Kang (I wouldn't take anyone seriously if they kept on boasting that they're the greatest Shaolin, though I'd take them more seriously than Frost), and in one Intro Dialog with Kitana, he shows envy towards her affection to Liu Kang, saying Liu Kang's lucky he met Kitana first. Also, while Liu Kang is a hard worker, Kung Lao is lazy. He was also like this in Shaolin Monks.

It's a bit more complicated to make Noob an Elder God champion. Scorpion was a vengeful specter, but he wasn't evil per se. Noob Saibot relishes the dark nature and is more intrinsically evil. The Elder Gods may not care about that as long as he gets the job done, but it'd be much riskier to trust the fate of the world to Noob's motivations. My favorite character in Mortal Kombat is Reptile. But with the new timeline the character more or less doesn’t exist in the story. The developers have stated in an interview before that the story team for each game gets a headstart of around 8 months or so before the official development even begins (so MK11's story was being developed during Injustice 2's production) in addition to the time available once development for the rest of the game commences. Considering that there's a whole team behind and not just one guy behind the entire story and the fact that an amateur writer like The4thSnake (though I can't be sure about him being an amateur since I don't know if he's a professional writer) can develop a better story in much less time and NRS's now famous crunch culture (which could explain why it's a mess since they might have been rushed into finishing the story up), they screwed up. I'm talking only about the actual story and the sequence of events that take place, not the entire story *mode*, cinematography etc since that takes quite a while to develop which most of us don't have much of a problem with.

The sheer fact that she killed Baraka was enough to get people to hate her. Now she gets to kill Mileena, *and* Scorpion. They try to play her off as this badass who thinks no one can hurt her, too. When she meets with Shao Kahn, she happily informs him that she killed his own daughter, just to mock him. I will always be an MK fan but I did feel like the story fell flat. I would’ve liked to see Dark Raiden as the main antagonist and the revenants Liu Kang and Kitana in a more vulnerable position, especially after the events of MK X. Think about it, Dark Raiden is on a rampage and the revenant forces strike a deal with Earthrealm and the Elder Gods as sort of a “last resort.” This would have added some great tension and would have really followed the new story line. Imagine the MK 11 plot involving Raiden, who has been trying to prevent Armageddon, ultimately designing his own downfall and becoming the one thing he swore to defend Earthrealm against. It would have been a great conclusion to his new character arc, and would have created a way more intense story.

Kronica could've helped dark raiden. think about it: raiden has been extremely guilt-ridden about everyone who died in mk9 for more than 20 years now. Kronika didn't have to erase him from existence, but instead just have him help her change the timeline to prevent the heroes from becoming revenants.

I have some ideas about how the mk11 story and it’s characters could have gone and i am open to criticism I just had some ideas Kung Jin: have his storyline be about restoring the revenants with shujinko and later restore kabal and night wolf setting up their stories as well, I feel like this was hinted at with Jin’s ending in mkx Kabal: have him change the black dragon into a better clan with the help of the special forces and have him kill Kano. Bi Han: have him be the champion of the elder gods like scorpion. Baraka: have him kill bug lady after she says she killed mileena Sub zero: have him actually show the love that he apparently has had for bi Han since mk9

A big problem is Kronika's power level, instead of a Titan, she should be an Elder Goddess, because if she is truly this powerful, why did she allow Raiden to do his shit? Why allow things to get to such a point where time travel would be needed, instead of she isn't all powerful, she can restore Shinnok to aid her, plus the other EG can summon the heroes from other timelines, explaining why they are there instead of Kronika just stupidly allowing that to happen.

Dark Raiden. He should have been the villain. He takes out the Netherrealm army, defeats Kitana and Liu Kang, and takes over the Netherrealm, so that he can use its armies to "protect Earthrealm." Shinnok's amulet corrupts him completely, and the Earthrealmers realize he's gone down the Dark Side. Raiden begins to think that to protect something, one must be in charge of it to keep everyone in line, especially when Earthrealmers like Erron Black, Shang Tsung, the Black Dragon, and the Cyber Lin Kuei have acted against Earthrealm's interests before. When Raiden tries to get the humans to swear allegiance to him as the new emperor of Earthrealm, the Special Forces refuse, but before Dark Raiden can strike them down, Kronika and Cetrion appear and save the Special Forces and get them out of the Netherrealm, appearing as angelic-style beings to save them from a hellish fate in Raiden's hands. Kronika recruits them to fight against Dark Raiden, and bolsters their forces by getting Light Raiden and past fighters to fight against Dark Raiden's revenants, but Kronika and her daughter have a secret agenda of their own-to rewrite time so as to reverse Shinnok's defeat, because they see Shinnok being usurped by Raiden as an abomination, and Kronika/Cetrion have their own secret grudge against the Cage family, since to them, no mortal should ever strike down an Elder God. Kronika and Cetrion plan to send the Cages to their deaths against Dark Raiden's forces so as to hit two birds with one stone. Enemies in front of you, and enemies behind you-that would make for a great storyline with much potential. Instead, Dark Raiden disappears, and Kronika wages war like an idiot. What a joke.

Ya know, when fans can do better than "professional writers" there is a huge fucking problem. This would be the story to MK11 I would have liked, rather than their stupid, contrived, and open ended bullshit, which they tried to end somewhat like Armageddon, but Armageddon felt like there was actually more at stake, since the writing was better and the writers didn't treat its fans like petulant children. It's like how I hate Sakura Haruno from Naruto, but upon reading fanfiction, I actually like her from a fans perspective rather than from a professionals perspective. I know that Kishimoto doesn't know how to female characters, but it still counts.

The Kronika boss fight felt fresh, in the sense of I was tired of fighting tall-fire monsters. But the exclusion of a sub-boss monster was missing. And I think more could've been done to make Kronika feel like a "big-bad"

Im convinced NRS is scared to advance the MK story. At every turn they sabotage any possibility of advancing this alternate timeline story. New Characters where handled mostly poorly and the only 2 actually capable of carrying the MK franchise on their back got screwed, Takeda wasnt in the game and Kotal got crippled and handed Outworld over to Kitana on a silver platter. This entire Kronika premise should have been saved for at least another game or two after dealing with a new Deadly Alliance and Onaga's return, the whole time tho putting over new characters this way they could have introduced the titans and have a mostly fresh cast ready to face the new threat or at that point then hit the reset button.

It would've been so awesome to see a match between past Kitana and present Revenant Kitana, with the present going to kill her past, but past Mileena steps in and kills the Revenant. This will then allow the newly Kitana Kahn see that her sister is a respectable person who saved her from death. So she asks Mileena to be her personal bodyguard, this in turn allows Mileena a better story by keeping Kitana safe but still being a strong fighter

*****WARNING:VAUGLEY RELATED RANT!***** I never got how the larger scale battles never use the characters to their strengths. Why is it always just "CHARGE" and hope for the best? The special forces, the armies of outworld, lin Kuei, Shirai Ryu, the black dragons and red dragons don't use tactics, equipment or the specialists at their disposal. Seriously, the special forces posses, among other things, drones, guns, energy weapons, weaponozed limb technology, bombs and body armour. Not every opponent can teleport or run at sonic speed! If just one of these forces got it together they'd wipe the floor with the opposing side. Are Tarkatans bulletproof? Is Shao Khan? Does only Sonya have a drone? Why do the ninja clans attack directly and not use any form of tactic? Couldn't Erron Black just snipe a load of people? Etc...... I know it's a fighting game and therefore the almighty melee rules but I always found it ridiculous that even in major confrontations, for all the individual side plans, neither side tries anything other than CHARGE! Interesting side note: Tarkatans wants to autocorrect to charlatans!
