Terry managed to take the bond between two characters that love each other and use it to save the entire crew. Riker's goodbye to Deanna being reason to sense his LOVE through all the noise in the World was magical, very grounding to me and then her reaction, to fight for who she loved, man we got to see Deanna do what many of us knew she could always do and that's be badass with a ship.

This was a great interview with Terry! Love the rapport between you all! I’m parking Picard s3 for when I’ve finished our TNG review as I’m sure I’ll get so much more out of it once I’m better acquainted with the characters. I’d be all over a civilian Star Trek series and definitely more Jake! This is what Star Wars had done so well and there are so many great stories to tell! Give Terry more money to make new shows!!! Thanks Terry!

Just finished my 2nd watch through of the interview. What a great interview, guys! So many interesting insights to the creativity that went into making this season as magical as it was. It just goes to show that when you bring the right people who have a love and passion for the subject matter, you end up with a fantastic story and something that just hits all the right notes. Thank you, Cirroc and Ryan for another great episode of The 7th Rule! Thank you, Terry, for taking the time to talk with them and share some of your experiences of making Season 3!

I'm only about 20 minutes in so far but this is amazing. Ryan and Cirroc are even better than their usual great series, and that's saying a lot! I've watched so many interviews with Terry at this point and you can still see how excited he gets talking about this show and Star Trek in general. And despite his many interviews about Picard he still has nuggets of new information each time. The Jake side plot would've been amazing and the Jake podcast/audio drama is another fantastic idea. I hope we get to see a Jake story sooner than later. Cirroc is a criminally underrated actor who could easily carry a show or other production as the lead. Ok time to unpause and enjoy the rest. Thanks to everyone on the show and behind the scenes for this.

21:10: I'd say the fans wanted the set and window dressing to be correct before we got to the story, and putting them on A starship that looks and feels familiar (it didn't even have to be the literal D) is part of getting that mise en scene right in a manner most of the modern Trek shows have not.

I have to say if , Terry, and his team, Had a long series to create, the spread of nostalgia would probably be perfect. While, in Season 3 of Picard, they didn't know if they would have another shot. So, you get a greater concentration of it. So, I am looking forward to more from Terry, and company, if they get their shot.

This episode was great. One thing I love is all of the deaths. I know people hated Ro, but she said what needed to be said and knew that her death wouldn't be the end. I absolutely love the idea that Lore dies but not really and a part of him is in Data. Like honestly Lore's death(deactivation) in TNG was lack luster and I feel the character was sent off, amazing. Also I don't know how but I would love to hear about Nog and how he tried to save the day and went out as a bada**(Nog was the biggest bada** Starfleet has). We can't show him but still send him off.(Btw lets make him get a funeral that gets so many donations that he is considered one of the richest Ferengi(so he gets into Ferengi hevan), died in battle(so he gets into Stovacore), with a strong Pah so he can go with the profits).

One day, someone will have to ask him about Season 2. Why was it *so* bad? Considering the wonderful work he's done on S3 and the terrific success of Akiva on Strange New Worlds. What happened?
@DLZ2000
@DLZ2000 6 ай бұрын
The first half was fine, if a bit derivative, with a stellar scene between Picard and Crusher, Geordi's goodbye speech to Data (which is the only thing I found missing from season one), and Project Proteus (which is exactly the kind of consequence DS9 would have shown), but went off the rails once they started to resurrect Data. He already had a poetic death in season one "a butterfly that lives forever is really not a butterfly at all." But even worse was reducing the Changelings (portrayed in DS9 with nuance) and the Borg (portrayed with nuance in TNG, and both previous seasons of PIC) to cartoons to be blown up. It literally had Data say "I hate them" which is a line akin to Kirk's "Let them die," but without someone like Spock calling him out for it. Every single Trek series has ended with peace through communication (perhaps with the exception of VOY), and even the series-long arcs like the Xindi arc and DSC, PIC, and PRO's previous seasons ended that way. So, to have an ending that endorses genocide is about as anti-Trek as it gets, regardless of whether or not it's on familiar ships and has familiar LCARS interfaces and familiar characters. Nostalgia is not a substitute for Trek's themes. The ONLY time I truly don't like Trek is when its politics are bad. And PIC season three had bad politics on multiple fronts: * Glorifying the abuse of crews by someone who never got help with his PTSD. * Thinking two instances of using Seven's preferred name undoes a full year of deliberate deadnaming. * Downplaying the Raffi/Seven relationship to placate bigots. * Calling Jurati's peaceful overture to the Confederation Borg "weird." * Calling Nepenthe a place for "prairie hipsters," in a clear dig at Michael Chabon. * Completely flipping on Data's wise words "a butterfly that lives forever is really not a butterfly at all." * Turning Moriarty into a doorstop, after they'd made progress on sentient artificial life civil rights. * Exhuming Kirk's body without consent. * Having Boomers save Gen Z from themselves.

It was interesting to see Picard season 3. For the first time in many years, Trek wasn't completely filled with over-the-top nonsense, and teenage melodrama, with everyone constantly whining, crying, and saying, "That shit's cool, yo." (Or whatever stupid modern phrases they use in Kurtzman Trek.) It wasn't perfect. But at least it was finally more mature. I felt like i was actually watching adults, and not 12 year olds in adult bodies.

I only had 2 complaints for the season. first I was disappointed you didn't bring back Annie Wershing for the borg queen. She's my favorite of the three. And now we'll never get another chance to see her as the queen ever again. Second I was disapointed you didn't have Janeway do the promotion for Seven. That's it.
@stonebaxter
@stonebaxter Жыл бұрын
Borg Queen, he wanted the original. And I think Wershing was sick, wasn't she? As for Janeway, on the Shuttle Podcast, he insinuated he tried to get Janeway, but the Power That Be blocked it for some reason (probably actor cost)
@awilliams1701
@awilliams1701 Жыл бұрын
@@stonebaxter it was 100% cost for janeway. Yes Wershing had cancer. But she had cancer during season 2. She didn't tell anyone. She hid it well. No one knew until the day she died. Not even her co-stars. As for the original.........it was only her voice. She never showed her face and the end queen was a completely new person. So I still think Wershing would have been the better choice. Besides she's the best of the 3 IMO.

Sorry, guys, but I'd only trust the whole of Trek to you, Matalas. I'm sure at least half of the other guys mean well, but apart from Prodigy, which seems promising, the rest is not worth watching. I stopped DISC years ago, I'm not interested in Trek that can't measure up to any TNG or DS9 or VOY. You--my friend made each episode rival and even surpass timeless classics like 'Darmok', 'Inner Light', "Schizoid Man'-need I go on? I really hope you come back again and again and repopulate it--I think only you, the new incarnation of Ronald D Moore, can do it, and save it wholly!

The problem with Matalas’ statement that he doesn’t know how extreme right wingers can enjoy Star Trek is in his probable predicate that anything slightly right of leftism is extreme right wing. Granted, I don’t see any extreme leftism in Picard season 3. I’m very thankful that he took a more classically liberal approach. It’s not extreme right wing to believe in national sovereignty, or to oppose illegal immigration. It’s not extreme right wing to NOT be obsessed with color and gender. It’s not extreme right wing to be opposed to communism and socialism. It’s not extreme right wing to believe in free speech. In fact, traditional democrats from even 15 years ago were more aligned with today’s conservatives than they are with today’s democrats. I will say, as a conservative, I find elements of modern Trek (Discovery, Picard S1 & S2) to be obnoxiously Leftist. Not Liberal. Actually, this Leftism stands in opposition to the values of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. From the viewpoint of the Leftist Trek creators I’m talking about, Picard Season 3 is itself probably Alt-Right.

'Picard' was a series with a very wrong start from the beginning. Not great, not good, not even decent or fair. It was bad. Period. Season 2 was alike. With season 3 it was a nice sentimental send-off, but still not great or good. It was the best however the series could become. It was also all fanservice, with plotholes the size of our galaxy, and the final 'surprise' got the fans divided again: The Titan-A suddenly rebranded as the Enterprise-G. As a TNG fan it was fun to see the old cast back together again, albeit in a strange story arc. The main villain was dragged along and suddenly killed off with no impact on the story. Likewise the dragging supporting cast of captain Shaw, who really should deserve a series on his own!! A prequel series starting from the point of the handing over of the Titan-A from the Rikers, up to the point of Picard season 3's beginning. The series could be a sort of 'Hell's Kitchen' in space, where Shaw drills and examens the final year cadets before they graduate. But i'm veering off. 'Picard' had one decent season and it was the final season. Storywise it went all over the place, castwise it was a nice sendoff. Let's leave it at that. Strange New Worlds is setting so much things straight, canonwise, doing it's own thing, episodical stories, a small arc with the Gorn, some fun in the mix, deepening backstories for well beloved characters. Give them the spotlight they deserve; SNW is the TNG of this generation. To be honest: TNG only got great from season 4 on. SNW has 2 out of 2 seasons being great!!

Killing off Liam Shaw was an exceptionally foolish move. He and his XO. Seven of Nine, being left out of meetings concerning the status of their crew and ship was moronic. And there were enough plot holes to drive the Titanic through. It was a good final season, but it was hardly the best season of Star Trek ever. In my opinion, seasons 4-7 of Deep Space Nine was Trek at its best. Should Legacy ever come to past, rectify the Shaw and please do not populate with fan service faves. Allow characters like Mura, Sidney and Alana LaForge, Dr. Ohk, Jack Crusher and Shaw, Shaw, Shaw to flourish. No retreads, please!

Big fan of how Matalas gave me as a fan Trek something I enjoyed for first time in almost 20 years My complaint is how he says he doesn’t know how someone on the political right can be a fan. I mean right as my dad does and he was a fan day one 1966. It becomes tiresome constantly being mocked. I hold no I’ll will against whatever his or your politics are. But I guess I won’t be welcome as a fan 😢
