As a gift for graduating from university, I was given a Barbour Ashby with a fur lined insert. My family was modestly in a low point where my father had lost his job and we were surviving on fumes, but his sacrifices led me to complete higher education. I insisted on not buying that jacket because of its price point, but three years later, it’s in my wardrobe, and I’ll gladly keep wearing it well into my adulthood, wax on, wax off, always reminding me of the love and perseverance that runs in my family.

I thought waxed jackets were weird and impractical for years until I bought a Filson short lined cruiser jacket before a 1500 mile motorcycle road trip. Four years later, it's one of my favorite and most prized garments. It's warm, durable, has an impeccable cut, and absorbs so much character from the environment you use it in. That one's obviously not on your list here, but between this video and your waxed jacket video from a few months ago, it's great seeing waxed jackets get some well-deserved love and attention. Love your stuff.

The best waxed jacket I've ever seen was a Ralph Lauren Purple Label jacket. I was a waiter on Madison Avenue and this guy would come in frequently wearing this jacket. It was a hunter green diamond quilted hunting jacket with brown leather collar and matching narrow leather cuff hems. The sick thing about it was that quilting was waxed over fine tightly woven cotton duck canvas. It's the first and only time in my life I saw a waxed quilted jacket. Ralph Lauren waxed the canvas before it was quilted and then waxed it one more time over the stitching. OMG, it was gorgeous and he knew how much I liked it. 20 years ago, it was $2,000. Ralph Lauren only made this jacket for one season but it's seared in my mind forever. Barbour can't touch it.

That’s funny timing. I just got my Freenote cloth riders jacket in Oak today. I wear an XL in most shirts, mostly due to my wide shoulders and large chest. The XL fits perfectly. Sleeves are an inch or so too long, but I’ll live with it, could have them mended I’m sure, but it’s completely usable. I’m 5’10” so that’s the main issue with the sleeve length.

Kace from Yellowstone wears the Freenote Rider, too. Double famous guys jackets! Another good one to look at - Iron & Resin Rambler jacket. It's also US made and unlined. They have a lined version (Scout) which is also very nice, but not US made. Their Cruiser jacket is bigger and thicker, kind of a competitor to the Ship John Wills jacket on a budget.
@jasonkrasowski4673 Жыл бұрын
My dude,! Ya gotta tell us which one was your favorite!! I’ve had the RT jacket for over a year now and my #1 lesson learned is… you want a liner in a waxed jacket. Nothing worse than sweating, even just a bit and having it just stick to your skin as the jacket doesn’t breath. That, and because the RT is such a specific fit caused me to go on the hunt for a new waxed jacket. And after trying the Huckberry and Filson I went with the lined Huckberry. The Filson was nice but looked too much like a work coat and I’m happy to sacrifice a bit of the style the RT jacket has, for a jacket that is more versatile. If someone here is looking for a deal on the RT in a M, hit me up. Cheers!!

Just got the Hucberry Hudson; the trucker's less popular but more rugged and secretly sexy brother that everyone fancies when they turn 30. It's epic. The build is better and more robust than my Barbour Duke. Has handwarmers under waist pockets which is just the most civilised thing you can do (take not Barbour Duke makers), and is fully lined with some understated plaid cosiness, and unlike my RGT Supply (which I fucking adore), actually keeps rain out as opposed to seducing each droplet and welcoming it in for a martini and a shag. Why does nobody talk about the Hudson? It's a god damn megababe of a jacket.

I've got the flannel-lined Huckberry jacket, had it for about a month, absolutely love it. I think the wool-lined version would be warmer, but that's not really what I wanted this jacket for, I have heavier garments for when it's actually cold outside. I wanted like a late Fall / early Spring jacket, when there's some wind and sleet and rain but it's still like 50 degrees, and the flannel is perfect for that.

Ive had the freenote cloth jacket for almost 2 years now. It really is the pinacle of all waxed jacketets IMO. The main selling point for me though are the arm gussets. I have broad shoulders and I get easily annoyed if I don't have full arm mobility, which isn't an issue at all with this jacket.

I gave the Filson to a friend who is a farmhand, because I hated the fit. It was too boxy and unflattering. I never wear the Barbour, because I don't care for the way it looks on me and the wax is oily and picks up lint really bad. I love the flattering fit of the Rogue Territory Supply Jacket. The Flint and Tinder looks great also. I actually purchased a replacement for the Flint and Tinder jacket after getting gear oil all over the original purchase. I’ve got the Huckberry (Flint n Tinder) jacket with a flannel lining and absolutely love it. It also comes with a wool lining if you live in cooler climates. My only issue with the jacket is the buttons at the bottom of the jacket (sides) you can use to give it a more fitted look. At times the inside edge of the button gets caught on pants belt loops. Whilst nothing major it is a minor issue that could be fixed with a small modification.

I feel like i fit into the strange place in sizes were i am lean but 5' 11", so I wear med t shirts, socks, underwear, long sleeve shirts. BUT once i break into button ups and jackets i start floating the line to large. jackets need room for layering so i should always go large, and button ups that will inevitably shrink when washed should go large also, but sometimes a certain brands larges fit like XL on me and wont shrink enough so i have to go med.

Love the content and can’t wait to try your line of clothing. For the Rogue Territory Jacket, would you recommend lined or unlined? There is a $100 difference and I am uncertain if the lined is worth the extra cash.
@Bisley110 ай бұрын
I have both and prefer the lined because to me at least, the unlined isn’t really warm enough for when it’s cold and doesn’t offer alot of room for layering - but looks sweet. At the same time when I want to wear the unlined one for just wind / drizzle protection or looks, when it isn’t cold, I sweat in it. Now maybe that gets better with age when some of the wax wears out and it gets more breathable but i feel llike there’s only a very narrow temperature window (like 58-63 degrees) where it‘s just chilly enough that I don’t sweat in it, but I don’t get cold because I‘m lacking extra insulation. The lined version is cut a tad looser (i went same size), allows for a thin sweater or something beneath and is just so much more wearable to me because I can actually wear it when it gets chilly and it gives me some warmth on its own and more when paired with a sweater or flannel shirt. It’s still by no means a winter jacket and more of a fall spring jacket. Also, i don’t feel as clammy in it because the wool lining sucks up some of that moisture. The only thing I wish they had changed: the sleeves are satin lined, which I don’t like the feel of when wearing short or rolled up sleeves plus it doesn’t offer any insulation. I wish they’d gone with a wool or flannel lining for the sleeve, then the jacket would provide a tad more warmth with just a shirt underneath, as it gets cooler in the evening for example. TLDR as much as I want to love and still haven’t sold the unlined, I just really don’t find it all that wearable or functional.

With the lined and unlined version you have, what size did you go ? Im wanting a rgt but i feel the fit/size may be an issue compared to a bradley mountain or freenote?

Are those ankle wellies you’re wearing? If so, what make? (sorry if someone’s already asked)
