Talking for 16 minutes about using the 35-mil in such an interesting and nuanced way is no small feat, even when as a viewer you feel you've read, heard, and watched quite a bit about it over the years. Your channel remains a sure-fire destination when I want to get my creative juices stirred up a little and make me want to grab my camera and play and explore.

Excellent. A great compliment to the 50mm lens video. Looking forward to the next on a portrait lens (85mm maybe?) 🙂 Thank you

Great breakdown of the 35mm focal length! I shot with just a 35mm for 8 months a few years ago and this video has me wanting to do it again for 2025. It feels like a "wide 50" since you can compose with minimal distortion while still capturing more of the scene. It gets a bit tight for close work, like being in the middle of a crowd of protesters...Yet the lower perspective distortion compared to a 28 has a clean feel to it. I also shoot landscapes and find the 35mm one of the most challenging focal lengths because you aren't getting the dynamism of a wider lens or the isolation of a tighter fov. You just have to find something nice and fill the frame, which is funny but harder than it sounds. But when a 35mm landscape works it's postcard perfect!

A wide 50 that's a great description! Thanks for watching! :)

In Fujispeak, this is the 23mm Fuji lens. Love the 27mm (40mm equi.).
@The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
You are right, in Fujispeak is the 23, I also have the 27 and I really like it but I gravitate towards the 23 or the 35, probably because I'm very used to them :)
@taigenetsudo4273Ай бұрын
Great video as always! I read somewhere that Cartier Bresson used a 50mm because he considered a 35mm as having too much of a special effect caused by the distortion. His photos didnt need any effect to make them what they were. Oh, how times have changed!
@The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
Thanks My friend! And that's right 35 lenses used to have some distortion ( I suppose that technology got better in that sense and now is considered a "nornal" field of view) But I agree in my opinion the less effects the most you have to put into the photograph. Thanks for the comment! :)

Another amazing video! In your 50mm video, you differentiated framing and composition. I'm having a really hard time understanding what the difference is. Is it important to focus on one first before the other?
@The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
Thanks! Yes it's a little bit tricky but the idea is that what you frame are the things that you include in the picture, (people, a dog etc.) and composing is how to arrange those thongs within the frame. hope it helps!

Can you make story like this about 24mm ? And maybe make a comparison 24mm , 35mm 50mm? (If it is interesting for you)
@markusbolliger152721 күн бұрын
For "normal" street photography I prefer the 50mm. But when a scene becomes crowded, so that the distance to people shortens, I prefer the 35mm - because in these situations the 50mm behaves almost like a tele. Also, you can better structure different layers of interest with the 35, showing more of the environment when the main motif is in the foreground. So you get more involved into a scene compared to the 50mm, which separates you in most cases from it. The most famous street photographers in the first part of the 20the century made their icons with 50 and/or with the 35mm.

Great content as always. 35mm is like the Stratocaster of lenses. 50mm is a Les Paul and 28 is a Flying V 🤘😅
@amosgamaliel7968Ай бұрын
huh... never see it like that but that is make sense
@The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
Haha best analogy ever! definitely a 35 is a Stratocaster love it, Thanks Steve! hope to talk soon!

Which version of the 23mm would you advice, the f2 or f1.4.? I your case what do you use for your photography, I've used the f2 before but I do feels it's kinda wider than stated 23 and it's getting close to my 18mm focal length distance with subjects.
@The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
You are right, the 23mm f2 it's a little bit wider than what it should be for sure, and the f1.4 is closer to what a FF35 feels like, The answer in my case is to have both, when I'm in the streets maybe for more personal stuff I'm OK trading size and weather sealing for a little bit of the extra wideness and consequential post-processing of the lines and so on, but if I have t be more precise like for an assignment or maybe I know that the light situation will be complicated and things like that I use the 1.4, sadly both lenses are kind of complentary in that sense. That being said if I had to choose just one I would probably go for the older version of the 1.4 just because of the price, specially if I wouldn't be super sure of the focal length. Sorry for the long answer and I hope it helps a little bit :)
@iskandardzulqarnain4170Ай бұрын
@The_Raw_Society it's perfect ! Thank you for the response and time taken to explain I really appreciate it. I will look into the used market to compare the prices and affordability with the point youve just mentioned in consideration. :) can't wait for your new videos keep up the awesome contents ! @The_Raw_SocietyАй бұрын
That's right, for Fuji I have the 23 and for other cameras that I use for different purposes would be the 35. :)

why not a 40mm instead? it should be much more useful

@@The_Raw_Society In order to make my choice I used a 24-70 and settled on a focal length without looking at the lens. That way I discovered my perfect focal length without knowing exactly what it was. It came out at something between 40-45mm
@TorstenSrebotАй бұрын
I found my way to the 40 as well. It's for me a perfect choice.
@SourPlanetАй бұрын
Focal lengths aren't inherently more or less useful. Intention and use case determine what should be mounted.

@edzardpiltz6348Ай бұрын
I can be a bit wide at times, but combined with the 40/50mm it's the perfect combination. If you want one lens to do it all, I would always the 35 🤙
