I actually got to be interviewed by Activison Blizzard as a QA Tester. I did pretty bad on the interview cause it was like my second time ever doing an interview so I was still new but they handled it terribly when the interviewer said to the other interviewer to "get 'em out of here." which is referring to me. I didn't say anything, kept my formalities and just left after shaking hands but man, looking back it makes me want to throw up. :/

As a woman I think I can bring insight on the breast milk situation, for one if a baby is only fed breast milk giving them a formula because their breast milk was stolen can easily make them sick, and two if you don’t understand why someone stealing breast milk is creepy and disgusting already just imagine a lady at a sperm bank taking your sample home for “personal” use it’s definitely more extreme but it’s the only analogy I could come up with for guys “bodily fluids”.

So in case people don't get why lactation rooms are such a big deal: Women who are breastfeeding need to use breast pumps while they're working. If they don't for an extended period of time, they will stop producing milk. So you have a company that demands its employees work like 12 hour days, but can't afford to put a lock on their lactation room. According the lawsuit, dudes would just walk in on women while they were pumping and just gawk at them. On top of all that, you had some psychopath who would raid the fridge for breastmilk, literally stealing food from a baby.

Regarding the "lactating" facility. At my company we have a "mother's room" where women who've just had a baby can go down and pump their breast milk while they are at work. This is needed because they develop the milk throughout the day and can become very uncomfortable and often times painful. For those women at work, there is no baby to feed, therefore no relief. Providing the mother's room gives them the opportunity to step away and pump and store the milk to take home after work. It's a nice accomodation that not all companies have. It's almost a must if you're a breast feeding mother and are also a full-time worker.

Great video! One small nitpick, though. There's no "Blizzard half" to ActiBlizz. It is a single entity. "Blizzard" devs are put there and given orders by the same people as "Activision", and none of the old blood has any power anymore (either because they left or they didn't have much power in the first place). It's not useful to think of it as a separate thing. Blizzard died a long time ago, time to move on.

Hey Act Man, glad you're back. Regarding lactation rooms. Basically, if a woman is breastfeeding, she keeps producing milk, regardless of whether or not it is eaten. So, if she's working, she needs to pump milk for 2 reasons. 1/ so the baby can be fed wherever it is and 2/ to prevent milk building up which can be very uncomfortable and lead to serious infections like mastitis. So having access to those facilities allows these women to continue breastfeeding (which is the best thing for babies) while working.

As someone who studied writing and film in college, i was taught that "stereotypes" are used to subvert expectations and create unigue characters, for instance "he's a panda, but not just any panda, a kung fu panda" thats using the stereotype of "pandas are usually lazy and dont do kung fu" and making it into a subconscious recognition by the audience. Now apply that to humans: "a young black teen living in a rough Detroit with his in-and-out of jail father and ill mother, learns that he loves classical music and wants to study musical arts. He gets accepted into an art college but when his father reads his acceptance letter he disowns his son. the teen, now depressed, falls in with a bad crowd. One night they pressure him into vandalizing a school, he gets in trouble with the law which could jeopardise his college career. He is given one last chance by being scentanced to public service where he is now a janitor at a rec center. Thats when he meets an old Chinese man who teaches jazz to teens. The teen falls out of his depression slowly as the old man becomes his mentor. The teen goes to college, performs in a big band. he invites his father to a performance, the father doesnt show up, the teen gets sad, then the mentor shares a tale of his own come up, the father hears his kid play on the news, decides to show up to another show, gets impressed with his kid's skill and is moved by the music so much that he vows to change his ways, the mothers condition gets better, the end" I just wrote an entire treatment to prove that Activision/Blizard has either talentless or cusked writers

Just one quick note Act Man: Companies will frequently settle lawsuits rather than battle them out in court because the settlement is less expensive than paying for the *years* of lawyers' fees it would require to exonerate said company. While a settlement may *look* like an admission of guilt, in actuality it is far more likely to be a purely economic decision rather than legal comeuppance. If there was, indeed, sexual harassment on the scale that was alleged and if it was possible to prove it in court, A.B. could've very easily been on the hook for 10s, if not 100s of millions of dollars. The settlement makes the problem go away.

I remember thinking that the "ability" section of blizzard's diversity tool meant "cognitive ability" and that made me really confused since torbjorn had a high score. I was thinking maybe they made torbjorn autistic like symmetra (because being obsessive over geometric shapes apparently makes you autistic) simply because torbjorn was too focused on his engineering. It took me a while to figure out, no he only has a high ability score because he has a mechanical arm... I would have never thought that torbjorn was disabled if it wasn't for blizzard pointing it out to me. The mechanical arm is just part of torbjorn's design, he's not disabled, if anything his mechanical arm enhances his abilities.

I mean, it wasn't used for development but it's actually a decent example of how approaching a character like that COULD be useful. It characterises Torbjorn, and while I'm sure it's a boon for the game itself I can't imagine he has a good time using that set of pliers he has for a hand for cleaning the dishes. It's a bad system for a few reasons but the aim of diversifying characters in that way where they have unique traits, whether they be disabilities, injuries, backgrounds or ethnicities is a good one where so much focus can be lost on the other side of that coin, on their presence and special powers, which is also something you shouldn't ignore.

@@humandisaster3902 If the focus of the tool was just to find some unique combinations and stumble into some cool gameplay, that would be awesome. The trouble is that this tool was made just to appease the extremely left leaning liberal media, and their desire to see straight white people removed from the world. And then, hilariously, it's the extreme left leaning liberal media that says this tool is a bad thing. Never try to appease crybabies, because they'll always find something to complain about. Imagine your chief complaint being that there are too many white people in a game... when it was created in a country that is 60% white. Always crying for "proper representation" and then pretending that "proper representation" means pretending 60% of your country doesn't exist, and really focusing in on the less than 1% that cut their own genitals off.
@humandisaster3902
@humandisaster3902 Жыл бұрын
@@kenfresno2125 no... you don't have to do all that working out there, you can approach the system on a character basis and see why it's not entirely good or helpful. It doesn't plot out the character and it doesn't actually address unique traits of the character to assist someone in creating something new. There's no attempt to remove "straight white men" from anything and this tool doesn't appeal to creators, or the people it has attempted to represent. It's a good idea, it was just done poorly. Glad to see you remonetized, I love the videos! I believe the graph that blizzard was showing was not necessarily a “ranking system” of things like race and disabilities. I think the choice of graph was very poor, because at first glance that is definitely what it looks like - a ranking system. The numbers made more sense to me, when ive made things somewhat similar to the numbers of 0-4 just applies to the variables for the methods they used in their data. 0 for example would equal white or another races (white=0 or black=2, but this does NOT mean black>white or the other way around). This could help them track that they are being as diverse as they can and try to appeal to all audiences. It’s still fuck blizzard, but hopefully this is an explanation to their numbers/graph because it does TRY to serve a good and useful purpose. However, this is blizzard and they only try and keep fucking up.
@BWMagus
@BWMagus Жыл бұрын
I think we all understand that. The problem is that's not really a good purpose, to have another black character because you just want more black characters. "Oi, Joe, make the new character black. And gay. The algorithm says we only have one other black, gay character, and corporate wants 2, so get to it!" Like, it's fine to just randomize traits, and I don't mind if a producer looks at a cast and says "Why is the entire cast white as snow but the world of this game has plenty of non-white people?" Sure, fix that. But to sit there and create your characters based solely, or dominantly, on their demographics, instead of on being cool, interesting, and relatable, is shitty creation.

Thanks for covering this. It's shocking how these big companies continue to get away with their BS. I think the problem is that there is not enough coverage and so most players just don't know or they might hear about it, but not enough to put them off. As long as people keep supporting their BS, these companies will continue to do terrible crap and continue to get away with it. Microsoft/Mojang is forcing a player reporter "tool" on everyone, including private servers, because they care about the community. Well... if they cared so much, why are they buying Blizzard? It's really simple... this "tool" exists only as something they can't point to in court when someone tries to sue them. It's there to cover their own butts... that's it. They don't care about you or the kids... they care about the money. Blizzard, or the higher up executives at Blizzard, is a great example of just how little they care... they don't even care about the people who work there.

As a black man, I think diversity is a good thing. However, it has to have some common sense applied. If the game is set in modern day New York, I expect to see more than white faces. If the game is set in a small fishing village in Iceland back in 1477, then a black person being there wouldn't make sense. "Who brings breast milk to work?" Well, to feed the baby, if they have no choice but to bring the child to work. Also, breasts can produce milk fairly quickly, so there may not be time to wait to go home before a mother may have to use a pump. You can then refrigerate it for the baby later and not waste it.

The problem with games like Diablo Immortal isn't the games themselves. It's the brainlet users with unreasonable amounts of disposable income who spend tens of thousands of dollars and more on in-game purchases. This is why these games exist. No matter what the game is, there will be people who will spend an absurd amount for in-game purchases and games like this will continue to be made for that reason.

If loot boxes are seen as gambling, then they should be restricted to adults. If that happens, the company will lose half its player base and will not resort to using this type of monetisation, and yes, games like this will continue to be made, but their profitability will be noticeably reduced.

Exactly, on top of that, most of the people who cry about these issues aren't even watching/spending money on the products they insist upon being made. If so many people Truly wanted and supported these things as much as they say then the numbers would reflect that. But forced diversity products are almost always commercial flops. Not because the vast majority has any problem with diversity itself, but because it's a massive set of handcuffs on writers/creators to navigate the minefield of PC culture bullshit and still make a product that is actually good. The point that The Act Man made about Overwatch is a good example of non forced diversity, it makes perfect sense within the narrative to have all different characters from all different walks of life in that setting, so great, thumbs up. It is a little more jarring-however, when you're watching a movie set in a RL city that has an overwhelming majority population of a certain skin colour and every person you see is a different skin colour to the next. It's immersion breaking, reeks of corporate pandering for profit and a lot of people can smell the bullshit. By all means represent as many different types of people as you want, but if you can't maintain relevant consistency with the world in which your story happens then you fucked up.

@@NineBreakerUIXB My theory is that either the people who support this dont actually care about the franchisees they plow over, or alternatively, the people this does effect ARE supporting this now, but because it's such a small portion of the population, that it doesnt show in a gross increase in profits. As it is, we only hear the loud minority, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
