Yes! I would love to see and use a DAW with deep learning tech. Sean nailed my interest/semi-addiction in buying new plug-ins. The great ones can be such an inspiration. The discovery of a sound or a tool you were missing is motivating.

I so agree with you that every new bit of gear brings with it also new opportunities and horizons. That is the main reason why also I - as a musician, composer and producer of my own music - keep buying new plugins and VSTs even if I really do not need them. And I too keep changing my mixing template for the exact same reason. I think this is an important aspect of this whole business: to keep the creativity flowing. So, cheers and kippis again.

I would love to see a head to head of "Playfair Dynamic Grading" and "APU Loudness Compressor". They are for bringing one selected decibel range to another selected decibel range. Might be a good replacement for gain rider type plugins and a lot more jobs like dialing in ghost notes and what not.

The heritage successor doesn’t even work in AU🤣🤣 and they are demoing plug ins you can’t even buy. The company are all over the place, and as for $99 for compressor - dreaming

Happy to see the Kiiiiive Sliiiiive (quote from Dan Peters) in the top five now 😉. By the way, "channel strip" is derived from my home country Sweden. Back in the days, when we had travelling amusement parks up here, there was a fairground attraction consisting of a pinup stripping tent set up by the channel Göta Kanal. There you have it - channel strip. (OR, I just have a dirty imagination 😄)

A lot of people use reference tracks in their mixing and mastering. I can see AI being used to accurately match reference tracks. Whether thats built into the daw or as a vst or both remains to be seen.

1 - Korneff 2 - Logic 3 - Xenon 4 - Pro - L2 5 - BX True Peak , although the last 2 could be the other way around, the True Peak in 4 or the pro L2 in 5 .

A top 5 list of plugins that aren't emulations would be interesting. I'm actually liking that style now, I feel like I can mix faster. I do like the analog sounding plugins but there are a few (a lot?) where the gui could be much better. Really liking Black Salt Audio Silencer, so quick to dial in a gate on kick, snare and toms. Often find gates just fiddly but this is so easy.

The thought of my mixing software suggesting or second guessing my mix moves makes me want to crawl up in a ball and die. But then so so does most modern genric pop music so I suppose someone has to cater for those unimaginative c@#ts. But any new tools in the right hands can create new and provocative music- Aphex Twin being case and point, using mad one-off bits of software. Miles ahead of his time.

Two ideas for the reasons for the glut of Saturators. Developers had run out of ideas. Devs who had employed profiling technology so popular in the guitar technology world and figured they could use those profiles one-two-three at a time in DAW plugins and make some easy money.

I closed my eyes, and picked nr 5 as the favorite multiple times. Then I confirmed nr 5 was the absoluut best not knowing you were already at nr 2 with your clicking. So that's good news, don't have to fuss about a limiter again.... So, I choose PSP Xenon for having the most beautiful buttons.

On the Limiter blind test, I really like #1 and #5 and my least favourite was #4 whereas #2 is also quite nice nice but very coloured. I wouldn't be able to guess which one's which though

1 sounds very transparent 2 sounds very nice and open in the low end, the kick sounds nice and full 3 kills the low end of the kick 4 more percieved loudness (maybe just compared to no. 3?), kick sounds like it's clipping 5 quite similar to no. 1, more open/wide than 4 As for which is which... No fucking idea xD I love these blind tests, please keep doing them!

Yay!! My 2nd guess was the tape (folks try out Nomad Factory Magnetic if you want a real funky tape sim)...for the limiter, I liked #3 the best. Balanced across the spectrum. #1 sounded the worse and my guess it's the Logic limiter. Logic has a ton of great plugins but the limiter is the weakest in my book. Cheers mates!

Limiter shootout: 2 keeps all the low end and snap of the snare. Center image is strong 👍. 3 kills everything. Loses the thump of the kick and squishes the snare way too much, and the center sounds weaker 👎 . I like 2,5,1,4,3

no idea which is which so: 2 sounds nice but the low end, while strong, seemed a bit too colored. 3 very well rounded and natural but the winner is definitely 5 (gets the drums+bass perfectly) 1 and 4 my least favorite.

3 is 3 dimensional, 4 also a bit, and 5 also. # is best, 1 and 2 are 2 dimensional and I liked less...but I'm sure 1 and 2 are the most expensive and 3 is a free plugin haha

1 is Brainworx? I find it a bit dark sounding but can be nice. 2 is nice, probably my favourite, gonna guess it's Xenon. 3 is a bit squashed which I found El Juan does, my least favourite. 4 keeps loads of transients = Pro L 2 5 could be Logic which I don't know at all. I think they are fairly different. I've been using the Softube Weiss one but know the others although I'm probably going to be tragically wrong! 😂 Here's a question, do you ever use a limiter for anything other than mastering?
