@@TheAdventuresofTNT , unfortunately, most current musicians can't compare with these classic musicians. I strongly suggest "Perfect Strangers", which was an excellent song after Ian Gilliam returned to the band, and also "Space Truckin'" and "Highway Star". The live Space Truckin' from Made in Japan is great, but it's very long, so I don't know if you want to invest that much time, but it's outstanding. While you're at it, Symptom of the Universe from Back Sabbath is worth listening to, since it is the song where Iommi invented thrash back in the middle 70's (another day, another whole new genre for Iommi!).

I'm so envious! I only saw them in 1985 during the reunion phase. It was totally awesome to see all the MK2 guys together at the time, but Gillan's voice had already weakened somewhat by that point. Early 70s was really the time to see them live.

U can hear on this 1970 record that Deep Purple was an experienced, seasoned rock band... this was their 4th studio album (5th overall) at the time - the members had been playing music for years, first in Roundabout, before renaming themselves Deep Purple in 1968... they had established themselves as a pop rock band, but were frustrated by their creative progress. Ian Gillan (vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) had played together in a hippie band called Episode 6... both were recruited in 1969 to replace 2 original members... Jon Lord (keyboards) suggested the band record a symphonic album w/ an orchestra in 1969, that became the 'Concerto' album... then Ritchie Blackmore suggested they follow Led Zeppelin into the hard rock sound... the first single was 'Black night' in 1970 and it was a hit. The chemistry in Deep Purple's 'Mark II' line-up was explosive in the studio and on stage from the 'In rock' album and beyond... in fact, Deep Purple's 1972 live album 'Made in Japan' is considered one of the greatest in rock history... (the late) Jon Lord said there was no studio work done on that album (like most 'live' albums😂) It was rush-released just because the band loved the tapes that they heard from the Japan concerts that were recorded. From what I gathered, Led Zeppelin's live album 'The song remains the same' was also not patched up in the studio - it was a raw, flawed representation of Zeppelin in concert... Black Sabbath had an unauthorized live album 'Live at last' which were tapes recorded from a 1972 tour released by their ex-manager... But of the 3 live records, Deep Purple's 'Made in Japan' was the fan favorite, purely on energy, intensity and precision... Deep Purple did record another live album 'Made in Europe' w/ David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals) in the band, but it didn't do as well...

@@vernonallen3370 It's "Jon" Lord, and yes, here's what Gillan said: "Jon Lord was dicking around (or ‘extemporising on a theme’ as it’s known in the trade) with a tune from the new album by It’s a Beautiful Day; it was ‘Bombay Calling’. I started singing and the words came easily because we were all aware of the nuclear threat which hovered over us at this time which was probably when the ‘cold war’ was at its hottest ... So, we created this song using the Cold War as the theme, and wrote the lines ‘Sweet child in time, you’ll see the line.’ That’s how the lyrical side came in." I agree you don't have to be British to write a song about Vietnam, but it seems to be only Americans who think the song has to be about that invasion.

So far I've seen quite a few of your reactions but the best one of all was 'Dominance and Submission' by Blue Oyster Cult. Your reactions to several of the parts are priceless, like the build-up and let go. Thanks for posting and keep the reactions coming!

Wonderful reaction and analysis ... you really get this music. Thank you. I suggest Deep Purple's Burn or Stormbringer for your next reaction to this band.

I saw them live in the 80s. That show changed my life. 'Nuff said. You gotta ask me now.

You nailed the interpretation of the song. I couldn't agree more on this one. The only thing I would add is that Ian's scream might also have a more universal meaning to it - at least it does to me - his scream epitomises pain and suffering that all of us carry inside - for different reasons. That's why this song is immortal - it will speak to so many people for years to come. Anyway, thanks for this video, imo the best reaction to Child In Time on YT.
