Thanks to the Airbrush Garage for great content that helped me figure this out!🙌 If you are still having trouble cutting after following the above try this too. As in the video, I have the Cricut Explorer Air 2. The fine point blade works best but you will have to cut multiple times. 1. Create a custom Mylar material one for 7.5 mm & another for 10 mm in the Cricut Design App. 2. When you create the custom material, you will have a change to tell it to cut multiple times 2x - 9x. 3. Depending on the blade: 7-7.5mm mylar cuts with 2-3x. 2x was enough for an average fine point blade. 4. For 10mm, I had to cut 8x to get a clean detail separation for stencils and I chose blockier silhouettes.

So glad I found your video. I'm currently China painting on a dozen white coffee mugs and needed a way to create an image with stencils rather than freestyle painting each mug individually. I thought about cutting designs in mylar with an Exacto knife because I don't have a Cricut machine. I will be getting one now and will be watching more of your great tutorials! I really appreciate your no nonsense, detailed instructions.
@TheAirbrushGarage8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment, Sharon. The machine definitely does come in handy. A thinner mylar like .4 or .5 might be better for bending around a tumbler. Depending on what you are doing, vinyl makes the best stencil because there is little chance of paint Bleed but...of course they are not reusable. Good luck with the machine, and thanks for watching.

Thank you! Thank you! I don’t use my cricut to cut stencils. My friend needed some cut: this is the exact material she had and I was baffled! Like you…I tried the “more” just for regular stencil, a deep cut blade, and a knife blade. I wasn’t choosing Mylar! Saved the day!

June, when you set the pressure to more, it double cuts. If you find it still isn't cutting through in all areas, possibly due to not the sharpest blade. You can recut. How you do this is once it is done cutting, do not press the arrow to release the mat. Hit the "C" cut button to re cut. That will definitely do it! Hope that helps.

Thanks for all your hard work and I always leave your vids with another helpful tip (like the magnets and steel backer board to secure in-work projects....very cool and I hit your Amazon site and ordered it up. ) And I just ordered the Cricut Maker (may want to engrave in the future??) and these mylar sheets. Back in my AB history ...hmmm....1985 or so....we used to cut our stencils with a fine tip wood burning tool....lol....we had to move very carefully on the polystyrene for fear of burning a gapping hole in the design ....being retired and of limited art budget, I find AB stencils are not cheap and in the long run the Cricut will pay for itself. I'll keep watching man....great job!

If you use a non moisturized baby wipe you can clean the matt a great many times. Also one can use washable school glue sticks to adhere stencils to the matt. Wipe well after use and the stickiness comes back (until it is all the way off) of course by the time the stickiness is gone you'll need another matt. I use the Brother DX pro series cutter with Circuit or Siser products and they perform very well in the Brother. I do like the workspace that Cricut offers over the Brother workspace, however, all one has to do is export to a standard cut file and that is solved. Great Video.

Just found your video... looking for a stencil substrate tutorial - gonna save this in my favorites for cricut tips! Wanted to mention - you do NOT need to throw your mats away! Just wash them in warm, soapy water with a scrubby sponge & let air dry. The stickiness comes back and clean! Not sure if you shared a later video about that, but I'd rather be annoying than you throwing unnecessary $$ away! 😁 Hugs, from Mesa, AZ 🌵

Didnt read through all your comments so someone may have alerted you to this already - but material thickness is not either 5 or 7 mm it is 0.5 or 0.7 mm... I kept looking thinking no way that material is that thick - and finally realised the difference. Otherwise you have a nice style and are easy to watch.
@TheAirbrushGarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. what I say in the video is 7 mils. A mil is .007 of an inch. Mils are measured in thousands of an inch. Paper, paint thickness and in this case mylar are measured in mils. Not to be mistaken by mm (millimeters). Hope this helps, and thanks for the comment . Thanks for watching.
@chrisplatyyjones5087 Жыл бұрын
@@TheAirbrushGarage ummm very confusing - and apologies. Where I come from you say the word mils and you are talking millimeters.
@dancuccurullo8453 Жыл бұрын
Chris, it really doesn't matter where you come from a mil is not the same as a millimeter. Mils are for measuring things like paint, paper, mylar, plastic sheets, etc. I hope this clears up the confusion. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching.
