This video will go over how to choose the type of projector you use for art. Primarily showing the differences between regular projectors and Pico DLP projectors. Pico DLP projectors are capable of focusing to very small images up to reasonably large image!

The Amoowa Smart Mini Projector will it go smaller than the 50” that is stated? Also how is the quality if you wanted to do a 4’ mural?
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
@@yolandachilson738 It will, as well as the other mini DLP projectors. As for image quality as you scale up. You will start to notice more jagged edges the larger you scale up. while if viewing from a few feet away you are going to notice the pixels more when working right on them. Certainly useable to a 4 foot image. But its not going to be as crisp at that size at a true HD projector. If you are primarily working with very large images a full size projector with True HD or even 4k resolution and even more brightness would be better of course but at a cost. The real beauty of the pico DLP are they will scale to smaller images and still be useable in a pretty good range.

I cannot tell you how much I struggled with my old projector trying to use it! I was looking at short throw projectors(crazy expensive and still too large of an image) I had an led pico and it got dropped and broken, but even then because of not being able to focus easily at small areas it was horrible to work with. Then I found out about the DLP Picos. And recently they came down to an affordable level. I was able to try a couple. The burger I bought because vankyo is building a name as a great brand.. And i looked at a LOT of nice home theater projectors but non of them would easily scale to canvas size paintings. Glad to have you!

this projector completely changed my day to day workflow. Being I paint pets for a living.. getting them traced out rapidly is important! Sure i can draw them, but not nearly as quick.. I get a lot of comments about this (fairly old video) complaining I never say which model (although i mention the model i used here) Or say pico DLP projectors are not as good as big projectors.. And for a home theater that would be true. But no question if your not needing wall sized images. Pico DLP is going to be the way to go. And projecting top down is way better.

It's easy enough to get on board with them, however they only pay you once a month after all commissions have been calculated. This is great side money but not enough to make it full time. What made it extremely difficult were the customers. The representatives mostly deal with them and all communication is over email. They send you customer feedback and it can definitely affect you mentally. If a commission is approved, it's on you to roll up the painting in a shipping tube and drop it off at the post office. Great video, just wondering if you have any ideas of projectors that show keystone ,grids, values, black and white, maybe handset. The autograph ones went while back they seemed to have most qualities, told aught to go for something with lots lumens etc... looking for one that you think has it all budget less than 500 dollars. Has to be with features such as values etc.. that help when painting. thanks lots

artograph went out of business long ago, and the projectors floating around are not supported by the company that picked them up. In a digital age there are many easy options to adding a grid to photos. I know procreate will do it. same with values black and white is easy to accomodate on most projectors, or simply convert to black and white image. So i find those features a redundancy more than a feature at this point. The big question becomes how big do you plan to project, how much light do you need on and are you going to use a projector to quickly trace an image or use it for hours on end. If you plan on projecting images top down and want to use it for images 18x24 20x30 etc. DLP pico is the only realistic option, unless you plan on overprojecting and shrinking the image down manually. Now if I were painting wall murals, I would skip straight to a projector designed to display much larger images with the highest lumens I could get. Although my little pico DLP has been used on 4x5 foot canvases with no issues, i did have to dim the lights some. But i had to do that with the larger projectors as well to really see them well. I guess that's longwinded to say that no i don't know any projector meeting all your criteria. Artograph had most of those features, but again they are simply selling overstock if you find them. But i can say for me by far I switched to pico DLP and have never looked back.

Regarding your video on the Burger 101. How do I correct the horizontal balance and keystone correction when it’s set to auto. I want to project down vertically, but I’m not sure what to do. Can this be done with the remote? I also am curious about the phone mount you have in your studio. Thanks for all the information so far

Turn off keystone correction when projecting down. Line it up level is far better always when projecting for art. Keystone correction will slightly distort images regardless. I believe in the description I have a link to a mount. The one I had was home built but I’ve since bought one and it works very well 🙂

I have a Vankyo Burger projector, but using a San Disk USB stick in the projector plays a slide show of every picture on the stick. How can I choose one picture and it stays put until I want to change it. I have also tried using a HDMI cable from my computer to the projector and get "No Signal" when either mirroring or direct as if I had two monitors. So far it seems it is good for slide shows or movies. What am Idoing wrong?

It can fill a wall indoors ok, but all but super powerful larger projectors will struggle at outdoor day use.

you can very easily use a projector mount to mount 90 degrees to your surface. However I usually just get any info I need on an initial sketch then do my painting.. I actually paint vertically way more often than not. I actually keep my projector on a digital copy stand transfer anything up to 18x24 quickly from there and then paint. i dont use the projector past my initial proportions.. since that is all I need for time saving.

Thanks so much! May I ask, has anyone measured to see if the dimensions of the projected image on the Kodak Luma are accurate? Have seen reports from artists that some other projectors actually distort the image width, which would make it awful for things like portraits which have to be exact. Can be tested by projecting and measuring a perfect circle, btw. Thanks for anyone's input.
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
thats a great question to ask. Firstly keystone correction will "always" create image distortion. Secondly anytime you are stretching an image to fit a screen it will also distort the image. This gives me a great idea for a video on how to adjust and make sure the image is centered and adjusted properly. I have as you saw a great stand which makes setting up a breeze for me. (along with grid lines on the base) but not everyone does. oddly this video was kind of meant to be a toss in to go along with the airbrush videos I make and has suprised me how it keeps churning along. Had I known this video would be this popular I may have spent a little more time on filming and editing. It was one of those videos I just hit record and started talking really. I cant speak for all of the Luma projectors, i do know the 150 has minimal distortion on its own. But all projectors will generally have minor distortion. The majority of distortion in projecting however will come from not getting them set up perfectly lined up and squared with the canvas. Ive seen it a lot when people project to large canvases they do not spend the time to assure the image is perfectly squared. The short answer to correctng that is laying grid lines on the projected image. Procreate has a feature that automatically can add grid lines that i recently started using.

I bought the Artograph flare 450 digital projector despite the high price because I am a demanding artist and I was looking for the top. I immediately saw a malfunctioning concerning the so called keystone feature, that allows to regulate the inclination of the projected image, and is very important for my particular purposes. It only worked in one direction. By using the remote controller it was still possible to do it but I have a special lighting set up on the ceiling which is controlled by remote and happens to interfere with other devices. Long story short I promptly described the problem to the so called customer service, providing every information as requested. After several weeks and persisting attempts to have an adequate answer they simply told me that I could just use the remote controller, that's all. After one and a half month without using the projector here I am at the starting point, hoping that nothing else comes up in the future with this flawed software. Hope nothing goes wrong because nobody is going to give your money back.

sorry just seeing this. THe projector in this video is the vankyo burger. Which since discontinued. I have had the opportunity to look at some of the other pico DLP projectors. ANSI brightness is the only standard level, all others are essentially non standardized this one is 100 ANSI lumens. Yes and I have the amoowa here and my only issue with it is the remote is Bluetooth and has a hard time pairing. It runs fine off its touch screen. The focus is electronic and takes a little getting used to. But other than that it’s plenty bright and crisp Tbh you’ll probably turn the brightness down a little on either at 11x14. I run both at power saver mode. So I’m essence the amoowa produces a great picture but can have a buggy remote. Even brighter than the burger but the burger is a little easier to navigate. Of course you probably won’t find a burger and if you do it will be a close out The Akaskos are much dimmer so is the bottom level Kodak. There is a 1080p aaxa I’ve thought of trying but I believe it has no battery and has to remain plugged in. There are a few other tempting choices since I got the burger of course I don’t have a need if I bought another it would be out of my own curiosity

Size is dependant on distance. At 48 inches from the surface a pico projector would fill about a 24x32 inch canvas. (some more some less) you can calculate how big the image will be based on throw which may or may not be listed in the specs.. Some projectors have a zoom feature, however digital zoom degrades image quality a LOT and optical zoom is gonna be a very expensive larger projector feature.
