I really admire Alex's honesty and down to earthness. Despite the romance of creating fantastical superheroes, he keeps his talk real, but with a great deal of respect and passion. And this quality comes across in his work, which I think is what makes it so endearing

Alex Ross' art is the definitive "live action" adaptations of these characters. His pieces bring these worlds to life in ways that film has yet to achieve and probably never will.

I was awed and privileged to meet Alex on a snowy, late April day in 2019 at the opening of his Marvelocity exhibit in the Bess Bower Dunn Museum of Lake County in Libertyville, IL. By some underserved but welcome stroke of serendipity, my wife's brother married the daughter of one of Alex's favorite teachers from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Not in this lifetime did I imagine I would meet my favorite artist, and it's still hard to believe my luck in meeting and spending the afternoon with him and many of his friends from the Academy. Alex radiates brilliance, not only in his art, but in his encyclopedic knowledge of the history of comic books and comic book characters. One of the most cherished and memorable days of my 68 years on the planet. My bucket list is complete.

I am glad you had this opportunity and shared it. I can't imagine it all, but I am sure you had a smile throughout that afternoon that told everyone present life is worth living til the very last moment for the surprises and joys.

But Alex Ross is by far the greatest artist ever to work in the comic book industry. This guy's work is legendary.

Kingdom come absolutely changed me. As a Superman aficionado this moved me into another reality. This is my favorite version of Kal El and for me the most relatable. From the different "S" symbol to the older disillusioned graying Superman. I even love how you give us a glimpse of him in the far future looking like a very old saint nick ( to me) Mister Ross you are the Monet of this art form. Im a 56 year old man and one of my goals is to have an original Alex Ross Kingdom come Superman hanging in my yet to be purchased home in my not yet decorated man cave

Just watched the whole thing. Thank you Alex and crew who put this together, I've always wanted to see an extended interview with him. Just having the guy talk as much as possible about his art and vision for the characters he likes and gets to work with is fantastic. This goes beyond that, thus as a fan it's truly awesome. Alex , Thank You so much for making this video , I know what you mean , some of the comics that you had when you were a kid , hold a special place in your heart , kind of chiseled in your soul , some corny shit there .. lol.. But it's true . Your age determines the eras of comics that you were exposed to , I was born in 65 , so I was collecting Marvel comics since 1972 to 1995-ish ..Do you remember seeing the all the Marvel Treasury Editions for the first time ,( # 9 , Giant superhero team-up, my favorite ), or the 1960's Marvel cartoons .. ( Cap, Hulk , Iron man, Namor , Thor ).. sad animation , but I still loved them & I had no idea at the time that they were based on the old comics . Cool surprise for later., I remember getting " Bring on the Bad Guys " for Christmas , I love all those old B&W mags , Savage Sword , Monsters Unleashed, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu , Vampire Tales , Tales of the Zombie,.. etc..etc..those old Rampaging Hulk magazines , the two issues vs Namor .. very cool , + Jim Starlin sneaking in some cool covers as well . , Alex .. you should maybe revisit the old Savage Tales & Kull & the Barbarians B&W magazines , good inspirational content in those mags ( actually , not too many issues as well ) . I'm sure you're a fan of Frank Frazetta as well , nothing wrong with looking at his art books once in a while . If I was the " Boss " , I would want Alex Ross to do reproductions of some old covers , not just the famous ones but " kick ass " covers , for example .... Giant Size Man-Thing # 1 , ( Mike Ploog) , Amazing Spider-Man # 129, ( 1st app. of the Punisher ) , John Buscema's Silver Surfer #4 & # 14 ( Thor , Spider-Man ).Werewolf by Night , The living Mummy , Kull , Killraven , Deathlok , Jungle Action, .. I'm sorry ... I can go on & on .. but I think I already have ...lol

The parts about working as an artist and combating burnout are words of wisdom worth listening to. I know what Alex talks about on a personal level and actually switched a career in commercial art into something else just to save my love for drawing and painting. Deadlines and "the trenches work" you deed to do can kill your enjoyment so you need to be sure you want art to be your job and not just a fond hobby. I'm happy "just" panting in my free time. :-)
