I was born and bred in Brixton, went to school there and when I was older delivered milk in Geneva, Somerleyton, Railton rd and surrounding areas! Up until the riots it was extremely peaceful, I'm a journalist and can tell you unequivocally that what you see now is the result of loony councillors and deranged policing. I'm now 75. 👍

@@StraightOuttaBerkshire I'm a whitey lived in Brixton from 1989 thru 1997. Got robbed about 4 times, saw stabbings, heard gunshots and a young lady in my street was stabbed to death by a boyfriend. My black neighbours hated me whilst I tried to be friendly and inclusive. They rarely used their filthy garden and couldn't understand why I would cook food on a bbq in the summer in mine. Different culture I guess but I moved up to Nth London as soon as I could get out of what I felt was a ghetto. Brixton had a bit of a revival at some stage I believe but I don't remember seeing so many closed stores as I see now. Very sad because it has a great vibe in some areas but I felt safer when I worked in South Africa thru apartheid tbh.

I travel back and forth from S. Wales to different parts of London a fair bit, and if there's one thing I really hate it's the amount of people that just walk up and start begging with their scripted bullsh*t. And the ones that bug me the most are those on the tube. The working age men, who walk up and down the tube trains, pleading poverty, asking for money to get into hostels... And they are dressed in some pretty decent gear, with their designer labels, and spotless Nike Air Max that cost 2 or 3 times more than the trainers I'm wearing... They are scammers. You can see the people who are proper struggling... And it ain't those chancers! Great video again, Billy. Really enjoyed this one, nice change-up heading south!

I was there in the mid 90's and even then it was nothing like this. I was only a 20 something, who'd grown up in Kent with no black community around me, but never did I feel threatened or fear for myself. Nowadays though, I wouldn't risk putting myself in harms way. Those pricks blocking the lift epitomise the very worst of Brixton and the lack of care and respect for the children growing up around them.

@Retrobeemer I used go down to Brixton (I'm in North London) in early 90s. It had a nice almost New York Do the Right Thing feel to it, but with a bohemian European feel too, with people from the Caribbean, America, Africa and musicians or poets passing through; ganja sellers, pattie shops; and you could smell incense and weed blend on its streets sweetly. HOW RE-ASSURING to see the justification of my, reluctant, decision to move 11 miles away from The Inner South East London that I loved and was born into in 1954. By 1983 I had moved, having taken "White Flight" and seen the area transform from 98% White/British and Irish to an area so dangerous that The A.A. Guy turned up with an AXE while recovering my stolen car..Other highlights before and since? 2 Muggings and 2 robberies plus mugged for an OLD PENNY in 1968 in Kennington Park.A woman got £20 of me while I was at the lights in Electric Avenue(now gone) by snatching my car keys.My car window was shattered by 4 youths while checking my "A to Z" on Brixton Hill.AMAZINGLY all by Members of the same Community....Funny that...

Most important of all, avoid drugs of any kind, especially the so-called soft weed. You’d have to go back well over 100 years for that to be true. From the 50s-60s it was a rough tough working class area that’s always been full of immigrants. The Scots, Irish, Jamaican, African, Asian, South American have all settled there in that time. Why, because it was dirt cheap, dangerous & nobody wanted to live there. Don’t compare Brixton to actual posh upmarket areas like Mayfair, Knightsbridge etc, it’s silly

And maybe they dont want to live in Spain, maybe they liked their own culture before it was destroyed by woke bellends like you.

@@paulkirton8945 if it’s fine for people coming here to not learn a lick of English (and require translators for everything) and stick to themselves, than it’s fine for the English to do the same, it’s either all bad or it’s not. Just to add, I do think if you’re moving to a foreign country you should learn the language, even if it’s just the basics I don’t encourage anyone relocating and making no effort to integrate with the locals
