The bloke in his dressing gown is Mike Conteh. His brother John was the WBC Light Heavyweight champion of the world.

My Dad's family had a fight in the street with the Contehs long before John got a name for himself. His older brother was supposed to be tougher. But, my Dad's family had a great boxer in them back in the day, and sure enough sent the Contehs off with their tails between their legs. Not the classiest thing to do, I know. But, it's a bit of history my Dad used to tell us when he was alive, and we were kids.

Hi Billy, yes Bootle is very very sad to see the deprivation of all the shops and most of the area, also sad to see the Merton pub close down had some great times there, and yes it could possibly be a mosque😮 30 pubs today are closing down so it’s going to be a more and more familiar site around the country sadly!! You show it as it is and tell it as it is you do a great job Billy! I will definitely buy you a bevy if I hopefully see you in a pub🍺

The amount of taxes people pay in this country and the state of it is disgraceful. It's not just Liverpool it's all over apart from the elite areas that the rich live in. If the areas are run down then people's attitude drops and the country becomes crap. Shame on every MP that just turns their back and looks the other way. I wish all the MPs from every party went and spoke to the people like this man does.

It really, really is so sad to see. And it's such a shame too - back in their day these buildings were beautiful. If the areas were maintained properly and kept up to date, they'd still look great. The lack of money in the area is down to the deindustrialisation that has hit so many areas in the country. Then you've got government austerity policies. We used to be very hands on people, fantastic at making things. Cheaper markets win though. So sad.

Hi Billy, it's a shame how these areas are being left to rot and decay!. I lived in Bootle in late 99/00 up until early 2001. It was rundown even then but nowhere near as bad as today. So many areas up and down the country have just been left to rot!. It really saddens me. There's some really lovely people in Bootle who really deserve better than this from their council. Anyway Billy, thanks again for your vid. John. 😢👍

Same all over the country if u can get to these buildings quick enough they could be repurposed as flats for the homeless etc but they get left and become so rundown it becomes cheaper to pull them down and build something new then it does to actually save them which is a crying shame because before to long all that will be left is pictures and videos of what they used to look like and in there place are the same style cheap to build blocks of flats that start falling apart 5 years after there finished if your lucky. Great job Billy on showing what the real Britain is like. I live in the East of England and we have 16 areas in the top 10% income wise and 32% in the bottom 10% some sitting side by side in the city and show's the huge disparity between the have's and the have nots although working there I always found the people with the least would offer the most to you and the affluent would barely speak to you.

pubs are closing, cos people don't go in them anymore, nothing to do with Muslims. I've heard the same crap about pubs becoming mosques for over 20 years, it's a load of shite that the right use to make people think that their beloved pub that they don't go in anymore cos its more expensive than wetherspoons is becoming a place of worship for people who despise alcohol. It's genuinely fucking embarrassing. Fuck Wetherspoons, go the Jawbone, Go the Albion, Go the lock and Quay. Support your local boozer and they won't go out of business, simple as that really. The overheads involved with running these gaffs is astronomical, especially if they're brewery tied, so even if they've got some people in them, doesn't mean they're not struglling.

thanks Billy, another video shared, hope youre ok and your brother, i got a son with Autism meself, we live in Bootle, and it is sad the state of alot down here, but its good people here to, as you probably know, but yes, the council could probably have done more to clean up, and mental healt, addicts and so on, my fella from Norway, and if you ever go over there, you probably get shocked how clean it is in the streets and so on compared to here. But back in the day people did ave respect and it was clean here to,we dont ave to go that far back, but people are down, poor, and feel there is little future it think sadly. People like you can do a difference i think, by putting a light on how it actually is, without it being a politician from that side or this that are telling us, cause in the end all they want is a vote, and nothing happend in the end anyway. Anyway, writing a book here now, kkep up the good work, all the best from Henning and Lisa

when you were at the sweat box gym on brasenose road - if you'd turned back on to st johns road and turned left you'd have gotten to a bridge with stone steps leading up to millers bridge. if you took another left and walked maybe 100m you would be on the corner of baliol road and oriel road with bootle town hall right in front of you. on the corner is a building known as The Incwell which I believe was a post office or police station. Anyway this specific spot is famous for being the location of the world's first crime reconstruction film.

Yay! At last. Someone who knows what Bootle is actually like. Yes, West Bootle is heavily industrialised because of its proximity to a docks which is still a working docks not a tourist attraction. There are plenty of areas that are really nice with fancy housing. Footage of an industrial estate, a closed shop with rotting hoardings, a subway, a railway bridge, a shopping trolley in the cut (which does get cleaned up by the local canoe club rom time to time) and a closed down pub is not representative of the Bootle I know and live in.
