My Dad's family had a fight in the street with the Contehs long before John got a name for himself. His older brother was supposed to be tougher. But, my Dad's family had a great boxer in them back in the day, and sure enough sent the Contehs off with their tails between their legs. Not the classiest thing to do, I know. But, it's a bit of history my Dad used to tell us when he was alive, and we were kids.

The amount of taxes people pay in this country and the state of it is disgraceful. It's not just Liverpool it's all over apart from the elite areas that the rich live in. It really, really is so sad to see. And it's such a shame too - back in their day these buildings were beautiful. If the areas were maintained properly and kept up to date, they'd still look great. The lack of money in the area is down to the deindustrialisation that has hit so many areas in the country. Then you've got government austerity policies. We used to be very hands on people, fantastic at making things. Cheaper markets win though. So sad.

Great job Billy on showing what the real Britain is like. I live in the East of England and we have 16 areas in the top 10% income wise and 32% in the bottom 10% some sitting side by side in the city and show's the huge disparity between the have's and the have nots although working there I always found the people with the least would offer the most to you and the affluent would barely speak to you.

pubs are closing, cos people don't go in them anymore, nothing to do with Muslims. It's genuinely fucking embarrassing. Fuck Wetherspoons, go the Jawbone, Go the Albion, Go the lock and Quay. Support your local boozer and they won't go out of business, simple as that really. The overheads involved with running these gaffs is astronomical, especially if they're brewery tied, so even if they've got some people in them, doesn't mean they're not struglling.

when you were at the sweat box gym on brasenose road - if you'd turned back on to st johns road and turned left you'd have gotten to a bridge with stone steps leading up to millers bridge. if you took another left and walked maybe 100m you would be on the corner of baliol road and oriel road with bootle town hall right in front of you. on the corner is a building known as The Incwell which I believe was a post office or police station. Anyway this specific spot is famous for being the location of the world's first crime reconstruction film.

Mike Conteh lived in Southport for years with another one of his brothers called Tony, I used to love picking him up in my cab and taking him round to the local Offy for his daily fix of ale, he was such a character and would always sing one of his songs before he got out the cab, he said he recorded all his music back in California.

Billy my mum was crying when I showed her your video of Bootle, our family are originally from Liverpool and my aunty Margie lived on Othello Street before it was knocked down and she worked at the Banjo pub which you can see looking down Oriel road on the corner before it splits into King and Queens. She then moved to Bianca Street and I can remember visiting her as a kid and seeing the big ships in the Canada Dock down the road as she lived on top-end Stanley Road next to the Chinese takeaway

Lived in bootle all my life. The bottom half next to the docks is just so heavily industrialised. The top half of bootle next to Walton and in to litherland really isn’t so bad at all lots of nice housing and clean
@TheBrutalDeluxe2 ай бұрын
Yay! At last. Someone who knows what Bootle is actually like. Yes, West Bootle is heavily industrialised because of its proximity to a docks which is still a working docks not a tourist attraction. There are plenty of areas that are really nice with fancy housing. Footage of an industrial estate, a closed shop with rotting hoardings, a subway, a railway bridge, a shopping trolley in the cut (which does get cleaned up by the local canoe club rom time to time) and a closed down pub is not representative of the Bootle I know and live in.
