One of the worst changes the movies made was when Dumbledore visits young Tom Riddle at the orphanage, Tom says "I can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me". When in the book he says "I can make bad things happen to people who annoy me". Just that slight alteration can make Voldemort look like a more sympathetic figure to the casual movie viewer instead of the cold, calculating, psychopath he was from a young age

@Philtopy
@Philtopy Жыл бұрын
Please no. Every origin story movie always fails in portraying the main character as the psychopath they are make and them an anti hero instead. Malificent and Curella are perfect examples. A movie about young Voldemort therefor must be a movie about middle age Dumbledore.
@neonmatt24
@neonmatt24 Жыл бұрын
@@Philtopy Ummm both those movies were designed that way by choice, and if you paid attention to any of his flashbacks in the Half Blood Prince they already made him a sympathetic villain by showing that he was bullied in the orphanage!
@Philtopy

@@neonmatt24 yeah that may be true but they also changed passges from the book. In the movie he said: "I can hurt people who are bad tto me." WHile in the book he says "I can hurt people who annoy me." Its a slight difference but speaks a totally different tone about the character. Voldi committed several murders while he was in hogwards. Sorry but no. They already deviated from the books quite a lot, anything more would break the character.

Dumbledore did respond when Riddle told him he could talk to snakes and asked dumbledore if it that was normal for wizards, dumbledore replied “it is unusual, but not unheard of” Harry asked him “did you know then sir” ? Dumbledore replied “no, I did not know what he would come to be, but his ability did not unease as much as his inclinations to cruelty and domination”.

Everyone always misses the fact that Voldemort had a portrait of himself at Hogwarts. Granted this was only in the movies. It was shown before the final actor was casted. I think it was in the second movie when the griffindors are on their way to their dorm at when their dorm is at the top of the moving stairs. You can see the painting to the right of the stairs directly next to the entry to their dorm. Even tho I know this is a movie easter egg, I always wondered how that would be explained in-universe.

@technoloverish

Yep, though I do wonder if he would've chosen a different path if he was raised by a responsible family rather than in an orphanage. I also think his attitude was likely worsened by the fact that he believed that his muggle father only left his mom because she was a witch. Nonetheless, there's no doubt that he was more prone to choosing the path he showed, since he was conceived in a coerced way

I don't think it was a case of them not forseeing it, but more so the combination of Voldemort's extreme proficiency in manipulation as well as a number of mistakes made by various people, such as Slughorn disclosing information to Riddle about horcruxes, but then altering the memory out of shame and regret and not informing anyone about the risk they posed. Dumbledore ignored the obvious signs when he visited Tom at the orphanage, both out of good will of wanting to give him a chance, as well as not wanting to harm some kid. By the time Voldemort had manipulated a group of Slytherins into being Death Eaters (a trivial task given the already strong pro-pure blood views held by many Slytherins), it was already too late as he had gained too much power and had already set up numerous horcruxes as a fail safe. Ultimately, Voldemort very likely would have gotten away with it if not for his own arrogance. His over-confidence in his ability to kill Harry whenever he wanted caused him to also make a number of crucial laspes of judgement that resulted in his death.

If I remember correctly, It was a Love Potion Toms mother gave to His father to make him love her, however in the harry potter Lore, this comes at a serious Cost. If the two have a Child, the child will be born without the ability to understand or have themselves feel Love in any form permanently. and since Tom/Voldemort was conceived before Toms Father was freed from the Potions Control, Voldemort would pay the price of his mother using a Love potion, His own ability to feel, understand or reciprocate love itself, the power of Love to which ironically would become his downfall.

If i recall correctly, Dumbledore’s duel with Grindelwald didn’t happen until the end of Riddle’s hogwarts years or after, so he wouldn’t have had the elder wand just yet. He would also have to look closely at the ring, which would be very strange for a professor, taking unusual interest in a student’s jewelry. I don’t think he would look closely enough to realize what it was.

There needs to be a revamp/restart of the Wizarding World Universe, start with a re-do of the Harry Potter movies but this time as a series and have each season be a book/movie. Then do spin off movies like one on Voldemort, one of the First Wizarding War, one on the Global Wizarding War, and what makes sense

I really love the films, even for theeir differences to the books, but I do think because of the nature of film making, they do a small diservice to showing Voldemort's overall abilities as a wizard. People think of Grindelwald being more powerful simply because they say that Voldemort just spams Avada Kedavra, but he is obviously much more capable than he is portrayed, and I don't think Avada Kedavra, or any other spell in the series are just easy to cast like it's some video game. The films just didn't have enough time to do the character complete justice, although his portrayal in the films is still awesome, and iconic to say the least. It's probably nearly impossible to do the character complete justice without making a solo film about his entire life. The books did it a bit better, but even then it was more about the plot and the character himself, and less about the complete demonstration of all of Voldemort's abilities. Most of his abilities are second hand accounts. Still, he is one of the greatest characters ever imagined, and Harry's complete opposite in every way. The spells he does cast in the books, and films are not meant to be as simple as they seem, especially since Harry Potter uses a soft magic system similar to LOTR.

I have a different Voldy origin theory.. I think Tom Riddle (the muggle) was a rich landowner, and a heal of a person; a true narcissist. Merope Gaunt was a poor, low-intelligence, girl, who (from his POV) lived in a rathole of a house, either on or next to his family's estate, whose (again from his POV) care givers (brother and father) were suddenly missing and she obviously alone, lonely, unchaperoned, and had an obvious crush on the handsome landlord (himself). She only became increasingly smitten if he paid her any attention at all. I think he took advantage of her as a lark~ perhaps abusing her attentions to kill an idle afternoon's itch now and again, to him she was a plaything to be used, but she then came up pregnant, as will happen now and again. As was the expected custom {of the time} he did marry her to legitimize the pregnancy, and perhaps he even thought he had become somewhat fond of his victim, in a way, the way one becomes fond of a pet; until just before her father and brother were due to be released from Azkaban, she then confessed to him of her being a witch, and they wizards; with perhaps a further warning that they may not look favorably on their marriage and the mixed blood offspring~ perhaps even performing some low level~ spot on the wall~ spell to convince him (as she wasn't especially skilled as a witch). He would then assume she had ensorcelled him, any fond feelings he may have developed were the result of some spell or brew... And now he could blame any past bad behavior on his part on her magic... He didn't take advantage because he was a heal, His excuse now was...Her Magic Made Me Do It... And That's Why He Left Her When He Did. Tom Riddle inherited his muggle-father's looks, intelligence, as well as his narcissistic personality; receiving only his magical abilities from his mother. Merope Gaunt was a low IQ witch, with limited skills and education, she didn't have the abilities required to make a love potion, and she didn't have the financial resources to buy one.

Naruto manga released in 1999. JK Rowling started writing Harry potter between 1990-95. Both featured a main villain who is basically part snake, who didnt have parents growing up. Both villains craved immortality through heinous means (Orochimaru taking over other peoples bodies and experimenting on captured ninja, Voldemort splitting his soul into 7 pieces by murdering). Both villains showed no regard or love for their former masters (Third Hokage and Dumbledore). Coincidence, probably. Kishimoto was never really inspired by JK Rowling but the writing shows alot of similarities.

Plot hole - Voldemort was possessing the head of prof. querrel during the events of the 1st movie, he would have noticed snape harassing him so often and fooling prof. Querrels plan to get the philosophers stone, then why did he still trust snape when he came back to power after the goblet of fire when he was revived and during the events of the half blood prince and why didnt he confront him, Voldemort only killed snape because he thought snape was the owner of the elder wand??

In the sixth book , Bellatrix asks Snape this precise question, and this was Snape's answer : "I think you next wanted to know," he pressed on, a little more loudly, for Bellatrix showed every sign of interrupting, "why I stood between the Dark Lord and the Sorcerer's Stone. That is easily answered. He did not know whether he could trust me. He thought, like you, that I had turned from faithful Death Eater to Dumbledore's stooge. He was in a pitiable condition, very weak, sharing the body of a mediocre wizard. He did not dare reveal himself to a former ally if that ally might turn him over to Dumbledore or the Ministry. I deeply regret that he did not trust me. He would have returned to power three years sooner. As it was, I saw only greedy and unworthy Quirrell attempting to steal the stone and, I admit, I did all I could to thwart him." He told Bellatrix that he told Voldemort this, when he too asked him the same question; that's why Voldemort didn't kill him .
