I don't think it's just about the conversation, it's the possibility of conflict. I am a follower of Milena (and a few other christian influencers) and what I find fascinating is their desire for peace and harmony. On some level most of us strife for peace in our lives, but only few go so far as to avoid anything that could possibly lead to a disagreement, let alone an argument. And if you whatch Milena's videos, she talks about that one of her biggest struggles in life were the first years of marriage when she "wouldn't submit or tame her tongue" (her words). I think that people like Milena take the easy route. It is easier to submit, close your eyes, pray to God, easier at least than to face your fears, have the fight, talk through the argument. Watching Milena's videos, she seems more at peace now. And this is the danger of the conservative movement: it provides you with a sense of peace. People are not conservatives just because they are dumb, mean, lacking of education etc., but because it makes them experience more peace, happiness, content. Her channel is a fascinating case study on radicalisation.

Im a catholic woman and was with a « traditional » guy during two months this year. It was my worst dating experience. He put so much pressure on me and made us fall into the sin-repent-sin-repent cycle. I did not have any kind of shame related to intimacy before him. Staying with him would have meant that I would have had to abandon my voice, my individuality, would have had to basically sacrifice my heart and my soul. There’s so much repression in these relationships. The woman is meant to disappear and to be silent (praying lol). Sometimes I think these people are not mature, have no experiences outside of church, don’t have a real identity outside of Christ and they force themselves into these relationships with all these rules. They are afraid of themselves, repress things. Their white interior shows an absence of personality and a will to constantly appear as white doves. Now I see that as highly suspicious. I would prefer to remain alone with a bunch of birds than getting married with these parameters.

They understood it wrong and out of context and now you picked it up wrong aswell..as to what Milena was referring to by saying you should pray instead of picking on your significant other, was that praying helps to take the momentum anger away and after you can talk things out calmly and more reflected (you can't tell me you never had moments you acted out of anger and didn't regret saying things after). And then to what her husband meant(which is referring not to a specific situation). He's basically just saying that praying for your wife and family is something that bonds you together since you share the faith and love in God. He never said he expects her to pray for him or anything like that. What I find most troubling about this advice is how it infantilizes the husband. Christianity forces its worshippers into childish subservience as it posits that everyone is god's child. But think of how a woman treats a baby. She feeds, clothes and burps it. She wipes its bottom, cleans and nurtures it and does it all with no expectation of reciprocity. I'm an athiest and so is my wife. We haven't been 'physically intimate' beyond hugging or the occasional kiss in 13 YEARS (we've been married 15 and I've known her for 20) and we have an AMAZING relationship. I'm asexual and didn't really figure that out until we'd been married for a bit but once I realized that I didn't /have to/ be sexually intimate with her or anyone else in order to maintain my relationship it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders and I could finally just relax. It was wonderful. Sometimes she talks about wanting to find someone (we're poly and open) to be sexual with and I always encourage that but she's never, ever pressured me or even spoken suggestively about sex to me since we sat down and talked it through 13 years ago. I like to call our relationship "Platonic Romantic" because we're best friends who love each other but we're not what most people think of when they think of a married couple. I get super weird looks if I try explaining it to someone but I wouldn't have it any other way and I've never been happier or more at peace with anyone than I am with her.

The part that got me was when they talked about him taking the kids out. She said that she can do the dishes in quiet when he does that. I think its important to say too that "Notice the little things" is gonna vary within any relationship, if your partner is autistic for example (like me) theres a chance they might miss some things and you can't hold that against them every time. You can ask that they try to improve (within reason), and you can be affected by it and say that, but being poor at noticing social queues can be an actual diagnosis, and theres only so much you can do at times. I think "Noticing" or "being observant" isn't the best phrasing, I'd probably say "Being mindful and receptive". You want to stay aware of how they are being affected by things you do, or things that happen, to the best of your ability.

Should she not be allowed any freedom because there is a narrow, remote chance that she might be victimized? Is she not allowed to learn self-defense or own a weapon? Because honestly, if you're worried about your wife's safety doesn't responsible gun ownership make more sense then keeping around a hulking, testosterone-fueled ape? (especially since a lot of people who believe this are conservative and also pro-2nd amendment. This is doubly contradictory if these same people believe that men are "just naturally more aggressive then women") Further, further, if all you can protect your wife from is other men, then what's the supposed "value" in men being stronger then women? These kind of people always like to frame it as "its men's natural/god-given duty to protect their wives" but if your strength is to enable you to fight off other men, then why would god make men in general stronger?! The strength disparity really only makes sense to me, from a naturalistic perspective, for one of two reasons: one: it was a random mutation and therefore there is no reason/value in it or two: it was because greater strength enabled men to subjugate women as baby factories...which is a _bad_ thing for the record! In reality, it was probably a combination of those two reasons. Either way I always come back to the same conclusion: Men being naturally stronger then women is _not_ the solution, its the _problem._ Force femme men, let's go! (for legal purposes, this is a joke, but also feminine men are hot)

In my brief experience seeing my neices "date" (both mothers in the room with the kids), with no time to actually get to know one another, then thrown into marriage I have seen brides have babies 9 months after the wedding. No lie. And so it makes sense when you have Christian communities that do not allow kids to date that their communication skills are zilch and they are awkward about it. And then the prayer verses just solve this for them..... even though they continously suffer inside. I feel so bad.

Can I just say, your channel is a breath of fresh air. I’ve deconstructed myself not as much from christianity, but from New Age dogma (which is similar). now as an agnostic, I really appreciate and stand by logic, critical thinking, progressive values, tolerance, embracing feminism, disestablishment of colonialism and harmful patriarchal beliefs, etc. This rhetoric they are pushing is so harmful, and I see it everywhere. My soon to be ex husband frequently used Christianity as a way to control me. He even forced me to go to Christian marriage counseling then stormed out when the pastor agreed with something I said. He forced me to get saved & said I was sinning by leaving him when he abused me. It was awful & im an atheist now

He says this about women as if being emotionally in touch with themselves and others is an exclusively feminine trait. So he doesn't interrogate in the slightest why he believes that men are intrinsically incapable or stunted in this regard. Thus his advice has absolutely nothing to do with actual empathy; its all about surface level aesthetic and materialistic things, like noticing her new haircut or new clothes. But perhaps if he keeps going, he'll begin to interrogate why he believes these things, and why the religious systems he is within WANT him to believe these things. Why do they care so little about his development into a well-adjusted, balanced and emotionally healthy adult human being?

I just realised that you two have a kind of similar format to many of these Christian couples in sitting down and discussing relationships/marriage and what works and how you should treat each other and I remember how people told Drew (and I think Taylor too but I can't remember?) how he should become a pastor or Christian counsellor or something and he really considered it. So right now thinking of this format and how evangelical church (small groups etc) would function with a "leader" who is basically your equal but mentors you (and keeps you "accountable" lol). The format is almost like you two are actually like the opposite goal of church leaders (yours is deconstruction and de-indoctrination rather than reassuring people to keep following the teachings) but the format at least feels like a kind of "mentoring" or "leading" role for us via your platform similarly to those Christian videos where a couple takes on a guiding role (and you are sharing 10 years of marriage experience)... so.. since you're not pastors, Taylor your channel is more like... the ANTIPASTOR!(pronounced "antipasta"). 😉
