This is the place! As we head to this weekend's giant Springfield, Ohio Antique Show Extravaganza, we recall our recent shopping visit with Kate @Followthatbugvintage at another giant antique attraction in town, the Heart of Ohio antique mall.
Kate leads us down a wing of this enormous mall that I've never seen before, so it's all fresh picking for me! So many offerings means the chance of finding a deal is good...a 1930s orange Tiffin console set, a pop-art 1960s flower power compact and a cute Pigeon Forge Pottery duck join the piles of fun stuff Kate is stashing in her voluminous wagon.
We hear a commotion and take a diversion to find @BernerBrotherAntiques and @CrazyLampLady involved in an online sale in their new studio, where a scarce Treasure Craft TV lamp and a copy of my book that we all sign go to a happy viewer! Their backroom sales area features fascinating Victorian feather wreaths, an 1855 dated coverlet and a Weller Etna vase from the 1910s that would be perfect in a modern grey farmhouse interior.
The real fun of this mega mall is the really high quality and number of really unusual items in this place! Victorian era fire alarms and lanterns, a 1936 Olympics pennant, a 1930s Lux/Rinso store display piece, even a 1960s Fred and Wilma Flinstone cookie jar from the TV show's 1961 introduction are just a few of the cool things we see...and wait til you get a load of our haul at the counter!

I can’t tell you how wonderful your videos are. Antiquing and thrift stores were my happy places. I’m a collector of Victorian Vaseline glass and of all things forklifts. Hunting down pieces I don’t have was my hearts joy. I now have a neurological disorder and I’m in a wheelchair. As you know, antique stores aren’t really wheelchair accessible. It breaks my heart to see a good antique store or a “hole in the wall” thrift store and not be able to go in. Watching your videos is like you’re bringing me along with you on your hunt! And you’re so extremely knowledgeable which makes watching even more enjoyable. I just wanted to say thank you. I believe having you come up in my feed was fate for me. I watch every time you post so keep your eyes open for forklifts!😉

I’m in a wheelchair too so I agree with you. Estate sales and many flea markets are also non accessible. The hunt becomes online and paying a lot more. I love learning from this channel so much.

I've smiling since the first frame! I think my cheeks might hurt after. Finding the Berner family was like a homecoming for all the roaming resellers. It's a point of reference that everyone can come back to, to recharge, get together and restock on the road. You and Kate are such a fun combination to watch. She seems more comfortable really sharing her knowledge when you are both talking because you share a lot of the same passions for kitsch culture and the more obscure the better. I love Kate and of course I love you too, George!

The China or porcelain pieces than let the light through are often made by cutting holes in the body of the piece, and allowing the holes to be filled with a translucent glaze. Kind of like plique a jour, only with clay. I did a play with Chief Joseph many years ago in Vancouver BC, he was a lovely man. Nice to see him referenced on your channel. It was the Arthur Kopit play Indians, and was quite intense.🖤🇨🇦

Hi George, 9a here! I love this video! There is so much of what I love. However the very tall green glass Italian wine bottle is great. I collect some, but also just found two 2 foot tall carriage lights in green that also were Italian wine bottles. Put battery candles in them and they are on our mantle. All the best, 9a from Michigan

Lux, Rinso (Blue) and Lifeboy, all from Lever Bros. My parents (thats where they met) worked at the Lever Bros soap side of the plant along with my mother's sister in 1935-1939. My aunts future husband worked on the edibles side of the plant. Family members werent allowed to work, with the exception of kids during the summer, so my mom and aunt had to quit. My dad worked his way up to management. The credit union used to be in the plant so Id go in once in a while...let you in on a secret, soap plants do not smell nice! Employees used to get cases of products for just a few dollars each month, never bought toothpaste, soap, detergent at a store so when I was on my own the price of detergent was a real shock, lol! The memories just came flooding back the second I saw that piece. Thanks for showing it, George.

1:30 That gentleman's chest is actually by the Canadian company Tobago. I've had a whole bedroom set like this. 9:50 I have that Jere piece. I'll never sell it because people just don't appreciate it like they should. I think I lowered it down to $450 and woke up from my sleep and took it off the market. The value I put on it is around $850 so I'll just let family sell it off when I'm dead. (Funny, but I'm dead serious.)
