Being popular in highschool isn’t worth it. Most of them stay the same after highschool. A lot of the unpopular kids end up surpassing them. Be yourself

This movie should be shown to teens out there in order for them to see the cruelty of materialism, peer pressure and bullying. If you can't be pretty, popular and rich, then focus on your studies and be satisfied with what you have. Everyone is special in their own way.

Though I agree, I must be realistic and say that it's not that easy as you put it. Children can't just 'focus on their studies and be grateful for what they have'. They are going through deep rooted emotional problems that needs to be addressed through counselling (not peer counselling, btw).

I don't understand why Angela was so fixated on becoming friends with Stacey when she had a genuine friend like Gill. Angela even minimised Stacey's bullying of Monica, "oh, she's just being funny." I wonder, if Stacey had have accepted Angela fully as her friend, would she have been happily coerced into bullying Monica as well?

Angela was so obsessed because in the teenagers world, you sometimes happen to take bad examples and admire the wrong persons...Stacey was the typical popular bitchy badass Miss Popularity queen I feel there are popular girls like Stacey, and they are dominant, so the majority of shy girls wants to act like her, be like her etc.... bad society prototypes and at that age you see them as Gods , but after 20 yrs maybe u remember them and u laugh

Seen this film so many times over the years. I first watched it as a teenager and could relate to Angela so much because I was a bit of an outcast myself not having the latest brand name items and not having much money. High school can be really tough. The scene where Angela's mother comes to get her at school always gets me. It always gets me when she says ''Don't hate me Mom''. It's a very good movie and I think a lot of teenagers would benefit from watching it. I wish I could tell teens that are going through bullying and feelings of being cast out, that high school doesn't last forever and you will be out of that situation and moved on to better things.

I think we all experienced this kind of separation of the “popular” and “unpopular” in school, but nah this was 😩 Angela honestly never stood a chance because they put so much emphasis on popularity and beauty in the school. Tbh I don't quite like Angie's demeanor. Everyone has a specific vibe, style and body type but Angie is obviously dorky, with a grandma fashion sense and timid body language. I'm not saying she is inferior and the other girls are better. I'm just saying there is room for improvement for Angie and it takes time and effort (to learn about style, and to be fit). She is forcing herself to a circle that she doesn't belong to. And when she doesn't get what she wants, she lashes out? She is not all that innocent. Also the way Angie is obsessed with Stacey is alarming. You can be angry, disappointed and all that but when you stab someone who is defenceless, you are a monster. Don't tell me she is not secretly jealous of Stacey. Just providing a different perspective.

The actors did an amazing job! Great message with valuable lessons to learn and take away. To be popular doesn’t mean that you have to be an abusive bully, parents, teachers and principal should have been more aware but kids don’t make this easy; kids keep secrets to avoid humiliation from their school peers, they are afraid to be their true selves to avoid being bullied. No one deserves to die for being a bully, but they sure deserve to be put in their place. The girl from the true story was a bully, but that usually comes with being pretty and popular. She should have faced the consequences of her actions, death was not the answer. But everyone also knows that attitude first comes from what you see at home, the parents in this movie sure think highly of themselves and of Stacey, they believe that no rules apply to them or their daughter because they are rich, beautiful and successful. Think again.

What about the other girl they refer to as “witch” that poor girl probably took crap every day. Personal and disgusting abuse , yet she doesn’t plunge a knife into a girls back. Monica took the crap for the murder for a while and if Angela could have gotten away with it she probably never would have came clean. She knew the cops were homing in on her . Whilst bullying is vile and Stacy’s mind and childish behavior is not acceptable , murder is not to be sympathized . Angela had a loving family , nice home and her health. Love these movies though!

This is such a thoughtful film about the agonies of being a teenager. That angst to be in the "in crowd" doesn't always disappear even when people leave their teenage years behind. It's such a good thing when people finally stop caring about all that stuff. I didn't agree with the judge's view about the court case being unnecessary because no matter who (or how unpleasant) the murder victim was, like all victim's families, their family deserve answers.

People always say Stacy deserved it because she bullied Angela. The irony is, Stacy never really bullied Angela. She just tolerated her but aside from as few snide comments, Stacy didn't do anything to Angela. She even accepted Angela's fake invitation. Angela rarely stood up for Monica when she was being bullied, she allowed Monica to take the blame and be harassed out of school. And if Stacy had accepted Angela, she'd be happy to be part of the cool clique and laugh at Stacy's nasty comments. She's no saint.

The truth is: Angela (Bernadette Protti) planned the murder of Stacy (Kristen Costas) from the beginning. Bernadette made an anonymous call to Kristen's mother from a public phone and told her she wanted to invite Kristen to a party. It was an ambush. Bernadette was wearing a t-shirt and pants the night she killed Kristen because she had no intention to go to any party. She drove to a church station and then said or did something that scared Kristen, and Kristen run out of the car. Then, Kristen got a house and knocked asking if she could use the phone. The family guy offered to drive her home. Bernadette followed them. When Kristen was alone again Bernadette killed her with a knife of 45cm that she purposely brought with her. Bernadette was envious and jealous because Kristen was everything she wanted to be.

However the reason y I broke up with her was precisely because I didn't want to be around her anymore. I'm not just saying she was terrible and I was completely right as a friend. I'm just saying, she hurt me alot and I was exhausted and unhappy around her, so rightfully so, I dumped her. I don't have to stay with someone I'm unhappy with.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I think people forget that the actual victim’s in this are obviously the girl herself but also her family who will always suffer because they’ll never get to see their daughter/sister etc again. As a mother I also can’t imagine how many times her parents would have tortured themselves with imagining how much pain their child went through being stabbed several times. The Stacey character was definitely a class A bitch and I could definitely understand people not having any sympathy if she’d been given a good beating by someone she was bullying or had bullied in the past, but to stab someone over and over and take their life because they don’t particularly like you or want to be your friend is a pretty extreme reaction that thankfully not many of us would or could ever do to another person no matter how angry, let down or humiliated we felt. For most of us it’s just not in our make up. (Unless my children were under threat of harm from someone🐻) As much as I detest bullying I don’t think the punishment here in any way fit the crime. Also remember that not long before she stabbed and killed her Angela had just been telling Stacey how much she admired her and really wished she was like her. She knew how badly Stacey treated people so why would she idolise her and what kind of person did that make Angela? She didn’t lose it with her due to anger over the merciless bullying of Monika or any other girls she killed her because of her own rage that she couldn’t force Stacey to like her and knew she would never accept her as a friend or an equal. Sad story all round but there’s only one person from it who will never get the chance to have possibly changed and became a better person.

SPOILER ALERT !!! The only person who was responsible for what happened here was the girl who took a life. It's understandable that she was humiliated & that she could certainly look forward to brutal teasing once she returned to school. None of that mitigates what she did. She made the decision to use that knife, she made the decision to kill that girl, she followed her home when a perfect stranger was attempting to help. She had plenty of time to think through her actions. If she was capable of planning the murder & seeing it thru to avoid the humiliation of that bully then she was with it enough to make another plan & just drive herself home. She stabbed her repeatedly with the intent to kill & them ran away without attempting to help at all.She was unbalanced, incredibly intense & knew at all times that she'd done wrong.

Why is this movie so quick to want to paint Angela as victim? Like yes Stacey wasn't the best person (though throughout my years of watching mean girls in movies her actions are somewhere near the lower middle in terms of cruelty) but she didn't deserve to be murdered especially in that way. The Larks had very understandable if intense reactions to her death and this movie acts like they're hades hounds. Also Monica wasn't a suspect because she was a goth but because she threatened to kill her multiple times in public.

No one has mentioned the disgusting twisting of words and threat and accusation to have Angela labeled as a lesbian which at that time was a social death sentence to which I'm sure many teenagers have committed suicide because of that. Angela saw that accusation however false it was as a death sentence at that minute and really went insane when unfortunately her hand fell on the handle of the knife. Her rage at the cruelty of this girl actually mostly to others and Angela's immature comprehension of subtle rules and in the end not realize that the friend she sought was not worth her time. It is most unfortunate that she was not accepted to the staff of the school newspaper.

Didn't realise this was a true story. All I can say is: There's no room for bullies on this planet.

@@katiecurrie9709 It's a sad fact that bullies operate in groups of 3 or more --- get a bully in a corner on his/her own and they'll crumble because they're cowards.

I’m sorry but the cheerleader and her friends weren’t the nicest but Angela was an unhappy lost soul who seemed validation from the wrong people. Normal bully victims can’t even go on with their day without being attacked for being them. Angela was forcing herself into crowds when all she needed to do is be content with her life and the wonderful people around her. She’s a pyscho

I can realte to Angela very much during my HS years. I understand her being hurt and well she was mean. What she did was very wrong well i can understand people do things under a moment but she got off very easy. But she did seem like she felt very bad for what she did. Knew what she did was wrong. Being popular isn't everything.

I know what it's like to be Bullied it made me ill I went from 9 stone to 6 stone, i think the town peers etc were at fault by Saying young teens had to be perfect etc there should of been some support for Angela at school home etc, Stacey shouldn't of bullied Melissa or Angela, at school Bully's will always end up Alone in life by the way they treat people, I don't excuse Angela's crime but I know what It's like trying to fit in at school & how cruel adolescents & Children can be, Bullying needs to be stopped ASAP especially in schools or in the streets, there's enough violence in this world without adding bullying to it I think Stacey's parents should of known there daughter was not telling them the truth smoking weed (grass) maybe that's why she bullied people different from herself like Melissa & angela & other students once a bully always a bully.

I didn't feel sorry for Angela in the slightest. She had a wonderful friend in Jill and a loving supportive family. Yet she was obsessed and admired the awful bitchy cruel nasty Stacy and her followers. Stacy was a total cow but didn't deserve to die, Angela should have cherished Jill and ignored the mean girls. The fact she only served 7 years was an abomination. ( Based on the murder of Kirsten Costas by Bernadette Protti ).
