Comments like "this proves he was a narcissist" is beyond ridiculous - people listen to a few KZbin programmes or read some articles in a magazine & think they're experts - they're not. Narcissism now gets tossed around by these "armchair diagnosticians"" who have no formal learning other than the KZbin programs they watch That scene in both movies is nothing that points to narcissism - especially when one is the boss & employer & the other a long term employee. The boss/ employer is going to say & decide on matters & may appear harsh - that's not "narcissism" by a long shot, not even close. Bosses are in charge & decide on matters bc that's part of their job as boss/ owner & employer & rightly so. So were this situation real it shows " Dan" acting as the boss &, putting some boundaries around the matter. Further, in one movie the employee quits instantly & the other doesn't! Patricia Cook are you aware of all the facts? She couldn’t have had everything still as you put it. Her husband screwed her over in secret using his legal knowledge to continuously reduce her financial entitlement to a pittance and after years of bringing up their children almost single handedly he removed even visitation rights. I don’t agree with what she did but he also gaslighted the hell out of her and drove her to this temporary insanity where his own appalling behaviour backfired in a terrible way for all the family. There were no winners.
@rachaelgunn-mugisha2913 жыл бұрын
Dan (R.I.P.) drove her insane. The series really show both Dan (R.I.P.) & Betty’s characters pretty well. She’d lived all her life for her husband & children; Dan (R.I.P.) ripped her of everything she valued. The devaluing, rejection, abandonment etc…can really drive you insanely off your supposed personality. They both needed help however, stubbornness leads to no one winning. May their souls (Dan & Linda) continue to R.I.P. & I hope Betty found her peace plus the children too.

IMO: *Betty* had no right to kill Dan. Yes, she gave him the best years of her life only for him to leave her for a younger woman, and I get that frustration, but she was a mother and should've prioritized her children's needs. They'll suffer forever for this. *Dan* was the lesser of 2 evils. He shouldn't have cheated, and the problems he and Betty had could've been handled better if they were both simply more mature. Still, he didn't deserve to die. *Linda* is the only one for whom I feel NO sympathy. She should've minded her own business. Instead, she messed with a married man and fanned the flames to an already problematic family. I once had a married man try to get with me, but I told him I wanted NONE of that trouble and then blocked him. I have enough problems in my life, lol. P.S.- However you feel about the story in real life, I think we can all agree Meredith Baxter is a PHENOMENAL actress!

Exactly. I would pity Linda if she had thought that Dan was single and stayed with him, but she knew he was married with children and that he hadn't divorced Betty yet. They were having an affair before Betty was even separated from him. She was a homewrecker. She didn't deserve to die but she never should have walked into that relationship in the first place. The minute she aged and a younger girl came in, she'd be kicked to the curb just like Betty was. There will always be someone younger, prettier, different, and men who only care about physical looks will trade up and out whenever they can.

This version doesn't quite go in depth as the latest Netflix version so I feel safe to say this is more of dan's version whereas netflix's version shows how mean and disgusted dan was with betty after hooking up with Linda. He totally gaslighted betty and even though I wish she'd been stronger and loved herself more than him, her esteem wouldn't allow her to move on. Murder wasn't the answer but I could see how she got there. Linda also should've refrained from being with a man who was still very much married when they begun to sneak around!
@zt10533 жыл бұрын
I think both versions just showed he wanted to be left alone. he was willing to pay alimony and pay for a house for Betty. The things he did like deducting her alimony checks were in retaliation to vandalizing his home driving a car into his home and the obscene phone messages
@ramonayoung48363 жыл бұрын
@@zt1053 yes, betty went over the top with the constant harassment and the total disregard for dan and linda's privacy. Betty felt that Dan was hers and no youngster was going to just snatch her husband from her but let's be real, both men and women alike become very territorial in relationships especially when children are involved. According to the latest version, betty spent 6 years wanting dan back and when she couldn't win, murdering dan and Linda was inevitable! She couldn't lose dan to a 19 year old period! May have had a different ending IF the female was younger and IF they were already separated before dating another woman.

She wouldn’t leave the creep because of religious reasons and partially out of fear. She finally became such a fragile mess he asked my parents to take her in. I understand it hurts to watch another woman enjoy the fruits of your labour. She could have made it with counselling and maybe a break somewhere. It really helps. Anyway I feel sorry for the kids but its in the past now. I hope theyve made their peace.
