Imagine being 15 years old with that incredible talent, playing in front of thousands of people live and on TV, just to be called a Nirvana rip off for having a frontman with medium length blonde hair.

Must be hard, but moving forward no matter criticism is what matters
maybe during frogstomp and freakshow, but silverchair really painted their own image in my opinion on neon ballroom, but freakshow and frogstomp sounds very diffrent compared to any nirvana record, maybe its just Dan and Kurt looking kinda similiar

True story: played these guys in a cricket match at a small run-down oval at Newcastle back in the day. Nobody expected them to turn up... thought it was a joke. But yeah, they turned up. Daniel scored like 45 runs and Ben kept behind the wickets. Daniel is really serious and passionate about his cricket. Nice guys
@KS-oh9no3 жыл бұрын
Wow!!! That's a great one!!! What about Ben and Chris how much they scored?
@shannonsutherland24503 жыл бұрын
@@KS-oh9no haha, not many runs. Can’t remember which one it was, but he was their wicket keeper. Funny guy. So casual. He had his shirt unbuttoned while keeping. Could see his chest and stomach haha. They turned up in a really nice panel van. Daniel Johns wore a full-brimmed cricket hat. Very skillful batsman for his small frame/size
@KS-oh9no3 жыл бұрын
@@shannonsutherland2450 Daniel was wicket keeper?
@shannonsutherland24503 жыл бұрын
@@KS-oh9no no no, the drummer was wicket keeper. Johns was simply a good batsman. He was so good at placing the ball through the field and picking up 1’s, 2’s and 3’s. Didn’t really hit any big boundaries and no 6’s (I guess because of his small body frame), but he was such a composed batter. I was silly mid-off and silly mid-on while he was batting. The whole time I was thinking, “Holy s**t, I’m playing cricket with one of the most famous bands of that period; both here and known around the world”. Yeah, it was really surreal :)
@KS-oh9no3 жыл бұрын
@@shannonsutherland2450 i am thinking if they weren't into music specially Daniel he would have been a good cricketer 😃... Thanks for sharing this story... Cheers mate👍

Gotta appreciate these were just kids at the time and this song has 3 tempos and they all stay in sync. Subtle but love how it pulls back in the hook.

One of the part about them that i thought was amazing. Its their song writing that got them famous. Their style on the first 2 records may sound like nirvana or soundgarden or any famous grunge band at that time but you can tell its a silverchair song. Most new young band that try to emulate their fave bands tend to sound like that band making em sound amateur. But silverchair wrote memorable songs.

When?
@MezMakesMusic4 жыл бұрын
Rock Music is often shit these day’s because they use watered down drum sounds and pathetic electronic imitations. Rock music needs beastly hard hit drumming in addition to the guitars to have a strong mid frequency presence.
@hangsambo124 жыл бұрын
MezMakesMusic that’s quite a broad swipe at today’s “rock music”.
@MezMakesMusic4 жыл бұрын
Kevin McGuire yeah I know, I know, you just have to look for great music...yada yada yada...but to be fair, rock music and even other music where the human body interacts with the instruments has been ditched from the mainstream completely and occasionally you get watered down versions of it. For me it was always important to create movements that touched into the mainstream. Also, honestly, it’s quite a struggle to find decent acts even in the deeper sections of the internet.
