I would like to hear from the people standing in the front of the audience that night… did they realize what they were witnessing? 20 years later and after all these years of listening to Diorama, then Young Modern and Dissociatives, then Dan’s solo records… this performance is fucking magical, fucking legendary. The song just gets better and better with each listen. And to know what Dan was going thru, to see his vocal performance and the heart, the passion he gives everything to the song… thank God for Silverchair.

Now that I am watching this again, it gives me so much meaning now more than ever! Specially when I heard it on the episode 3 of 'Who is Daniel Johns?' podcast. Daniel mentioned that during this performance, his body could only endure performing for 3 minutes MAX (and the song is 3:40 +) and yet he finished the song like a true fighter even by the end of it he was already physically hurting due to his illness at that time. Because of this performance, the record rocketed back in the chart- WHERE IT DESERVES and not on the shelve.🤷🏻♀️ OMG, but seriously?! If you don't know that back story, you will never know how epic this performance was! Really fckin AMAZING! I'm literally so speechless and simply just wanna say, THANK YOU Daniel, glad you did not give up!

Daniel Johns deserve every credits. Looking back at this performance, he mentioned that he was sick and hurting during this time but he still managed to pull it off. That's what you call dedication. I realy admire his passion and his art in everything even up to this day. His versatility is so admirable that he literally can sing and play anything. His compositions were truly genius. He deserve to be inducted in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Not today but in the future.🙌🏻 Such a virtuoso!💯

only 71k views???... and that was a world class performance that could be on the same bill as any big name artist worldwide... ??? .... unfortunately the world missed it back then coz Silverchair could have been the modern day Beatles of their time... Daniel is an entity in his own right, but just as worthy are Ben, who plays everything expected in a drum track and more, together with Chris's solid rock grooving bass bringing it all together.... yep, a best of Silverchair Tour would be great if the guys could do it... it's a big ask.
@sesh5179 ай бұрын
Daniel has shown willingness to do it but Ben won't let the past go and continues to belittle Daniel publicly. A reunion will never happen because of egos.
@AVportau9 ай бұрын
@@sesh517 Dan has played a game... a mental one at that... Ben and Chris can't deal with the megalomaniac that Dan is, and has been for some time.... Dan made sure Ben and Chris knew they were the 'hired help'... then he started hanging around gigging with the bands Yoko Ono who destroyed Dans mind with drugs. thanks Paul... and now Dan has likely lost a few million making an album that could be described as bizarre at best, and a bio-movie short he wont release... Dans mind is cooked, permanently baked... and Ben and Chris know it.

This was a brilliant performance and meant so much at the time. It was essentially the first time that Dan had been able to perform in approx. 2 years (due to his crippling arthritis). As others have indicated, it was still a challenge to perform, but he nailed it :)

It would be nice to see Silver Chair and Nirvana on the same stage. Who would play first. Nirvana is probably more well known. They have different yet similar styles. That one might be rocking roll heaven. Who knows? I would like sit down and write a song with Kurt Cobain. He could probably school me on the craft.
@raidozon2 жыл бұрын
Silverchair is one of my favorite bands, but when Paul Mac started to get musically involved with the band, the essence of the band began to mutate into something totally different, until the Young Modern style. I am not against evolution and exploring new paths, and I believe Paul is a great musician, but sometimes collaborations may not be beneficial for a band. Neon Ballroom was a great leap to a new adventure, but we could still listen to Silverchair's spirit there. But, when a band decided to kill off their past and decided to becoming something else, it's painful for us fans, or at least for me as a fan. It's just my personal opinion, and I really enjoyed Diorama. But at this rate I could notice that the future of the band wouldn't be as cool as I expected. Young Modern is a great effort and has nice quality, but it seemed to be written and recorded by a totally different band. The soul was gone then.
@roobend26242 жыл бұрын
Exactly the same experience as me, although I would mark the decline beginning at Diorama itself and getting worse from there. For me, there is and always has been a huge delineation between NB and Diorama, even though on the surface of things NB was the bigger departure from the prior two. As you mention, it's about the soul of the band, and more fundamentally, Daniel Johns himself. To put it simply, NB was still in its soul a rock album despite the orchestral overtures etc, but Diorama was in its soul a pop album, and the difference is stark. Now I don't blame Daniel for trying to get away as fast as possible from he music that made him famous, due to his extremely negative experiences with that fame, but no matter how hard he tried, Diorama and everything that followed only underlined how good of a rock composer he is as compared to other styles. Every album he's released since NB has declined in quality because to be frank, he's simply not that good with that type of musical composition, and more fundamentally, perhaps deep down his own soul doesn't connect with it. After all, that wasn't the music he grew up listening to, and it's incredibly difficult, maybe impossible to forge a new musical soul when you don't have the roots of childhood and adolescence connecting you to it. You can listen to and appreciate all types of music throughout your life, but there's a big difference between that and writing/composing it.
@Thorley6662 жыл бұрын
Taking into account this your personal. I dislike the excuse that gets chucked around about blaming Mac. Daniel was on this path long before Paul. As early as freak show. Paul task was basically transposing or playing the parts Daniel had written wasn’t proficient enough to play at that point. essentially a session Muso. Paul has no writing credits on any silverchair unlike lists say Julian Hamilton. Yet Paul gets the grief. I love the early albums but compared to the Diorama and young modern even neon ballroom. The first dont compare almost a different band. Imagine being expected to do the same you did from ages 14-18 for the rest of your life. If it wasn’t for Paul Daniel might not have gotten out of his mental health battles and continued making music. Point is Paul ain’t the scapegoat. If they kept making first two albums styles they would’ve died and become a joke.
@raidozon2 жыл бұрын
@@Thorley666 I give you the point about Daniel being, let's say, "experimental", but he also allowed to be influenced by unhealthy musical influences that infected Silverchair music and spirit, due to Daniel specifically. By the way, Paul Mac had been working with the band since 1997, doing some remixes. Then they worked again I. "Can't believe it's not rock n roll" and again with The Dissociatives, so I can tell this musical relationship full of electronic and poppy music would negatively impact sooner or later. With this amount of crap it's obvious that Silverchair and Daniel would turn into something very different. I am not against evolution or new ideas for a band, but when the members decide to become something else and betray their roots, it's simply the end. I know some bands able to refresh their musical idea without abandon their sound and their soul, but unfortunately my beloved Silverchair wasn't one of them.
@Williamsaje Жыл бұрын
Hello friend, Diorama has changed a little, compared to Neon Ballroom. But there was still an essence of Silverchair in there, especially the smart compositions. The band's decline took place in "Young Modern" because Daniel Johns was already influenced by various types of thoughts, even his appearance changed radically in "Young Modern". I didn't see it as an "evolution", but as an "involution". But despite all that, I still managed to like "Young Modern", even if in fact it's like another band was there. I like Silverchair a lot, I listen to their music daily and I hope Daniel comes to his senses, and can settle his dispute with Ben, and they come back with Silverchair.
@raidozon Жыл бұрын
@@Williamsaje You are totally right. It wasn't evolution for me as well, but I didn't say it like that because maybe some people may get mad hahaha. Diorama is a great showcase of musicianship and talent, but as you mentioned, Silverchair essence was still there. Well, let's continúe listen yo the first four albums and enjoy as much as if the band would still be rocking out there.
