I cringe every time I hear my voice beeped, but I tried uploading this without the beeps and blurs and it was instantly demonetized and shut down. The moment I threw the blur over it and beeps, the KZbin reviewer instantly let it pass... This seems to be the only way I could get it monetized without just completely removing that segment, which I had originally done for my Iraq War Part 1 video released months ago.

It wasn't censorship or a ban. It was self-censorship pushed by completly misguided YT demonitazation policy. Similar outcome, but still big qualitative difference to fullout ban on that kind of content. Armchair historian unfortunately fails to clarify in his disclaimer. If it was fullout censorship, the video couldn't be uploaded at all. But it can be, at least without ads. Of course and understandably, Armchair can't because they have to refinance production. So overall bad for education about controversial content. But censorship is not the right label here.

The part about Saddam Hussein repeatedly refusing to cooperate with UN weapons inspectors is inaccurate. I'm reading a summary of the Chilcot Inquiry, which is a 15 volume report on the decisions that lead to the Iraq invasion. Hussein did allow the weapons inspectors back to do their jobs. The US decided to invade despite that, instead of waiting to see what the inspectors would find.

@@nicolascerqueraangarita5243 I’m inclined to agree. It’s simple, strong men make good times, good times make weak men, weak men make bad times, bad times make strong men. Yet we still, albeit slowly, move forward. Technologically, ethically, societally. When people grow comfortable, society faultures let are guard down and give resources to the worst people possible. There’s a genocide going on in China right now. Disney thanked the people running the camps and there was no real boycott. No people boycotted one movie rather than all of Disney. @@nicolascerqueraangarita5243 Actually, a statement like "history will always repeat itself" has no scientific data backed by historians to prove it as much more than an anecdote. While Historical Reoccurrence is absolutely a thing, we have absolutely no way to understand how it will be effected by the internet. Days of burning books to hide information are long gone. Accredited Information has never been so widely available to the non-scholarly average citizen. It's just as likely that giving someone the full breadth and reality of a situation may steer them away as much as it could steer them towards whatever the topic may be.

It wasn't censorship or a ban because of "offensive content". It was self-censorship pushed by completly misguided YT demonitazation policy, bad AI, and corporate advertisement strategies. Similar outcome, but still big qualitative difference to fullout ban on that kind of content. Armchair historian unfortunately fails to clarify in his disclaimer. If it was fullout censorship, the video couldn't be uploaded at all. But it can be, at least without ads. Unfortunately and understandably, Armchair can´t do that, because he has to refinance his production. It also has little to do with "political correctness", beyond the fact, that controversial vids just aren´t very "sexy" for advertising companies. Hence, YT, if pushing monetized videos, does the same as newspaper editors who decide on the cover story that increases sales. Just as Newspapers, YT is not a public platform but a private profit-oriented company with some public function. So in case of this vid it's not censorship, but (bad) editorial decisions. So I fully understand anybody´s critique about i.e. demonitazation of controversial and educational content, but expecting YT to act "altruistically" is simply contradicted by its capitalist nature. Even if you don't pay, it's not for free. It's about ads and sales, and not democracy and unrestricted freedom to information. Most people using YT, or FB or any of these platforms misunderstand that. In any case, I think we should all grasp that high-end education always has a price, and should have. Otherwhise, it´s YT and advertisers who get to decide on what we see or what not.

Iran is arguable the only true nation in the middle East and has never fallen to chaos no matter the hardships it's faced, I see no reason why it would now. As an Iraqi born in Baghdad, watching this reminded me of how good we were doing before the war. Iraq was a Beautiful country with a people of great pride. We would have multiple visitors from libya, Syria and Egypt looking for work in Iraq. Our currency was almost double the value of the US dollar. Sure life was a tiny bit unfair due to some of Saddams policies however they were far outweighed by the incredible feats he achieved as president.

@@DIN0911- you are certainly right. But YT, if pushing monetized videos, does the same as newspaper editors who decide on the cover story that increases sales. Just as Newspapers, YT is not a public platform but a private profit-oriented company with some public function. So in case of this vid it´s (bad) editorial decisions, rather than censorship. So I fully understand anybodies critique about i.e. demonitization of controversial and educational content, but expecting YT to act "altruistically" is simply contradicted by its capitalist nature. Even if you don't pay, it's not for free. It´s primarily about ads and sales, and not democracy and unrestricted freedom to information. Most people using YT, or FB or any of these platforms misunderstand that.

Therapist: Leonardo DiSamio isn't real, he can't hurt you Leonardo DiSamio: 28:42 Even the US admitted that Saddam's intelligence organization Mukhabarat was effective in its methods and kept radicals in check. And while Saddam had a religious devotion to Islam and used it for the regime's legitimacy (which immediately backfired when the Ba'ath seized control in 1968 when they re-wrote the constitution with several references to Islam; religious leaders clashed with the Ba'athists because of their different interpretations and thus the constitution was rewritten once again in 1970 to remove all those references), it is important to note that he acknowledged the Christians. After all, they were there before the introduction of Islam. The Christians during his era lived good lives, as long as they stayed out of the way. Because of this, they did well economically. They became lawyers, doctors, and engineers. The regime kept a lid on anti-Christian violence, too. His deputy prime minister, Tariq Aziz, was also a Christian
@Longlius
@Longlius 3 жыл бұрын
True but US officials were also still haunted by the breakup of Yugoslavia. Christians might not be an enemy today, but once the Sunni pacified the Shi'a majority, there was a good indication that the Christians would be at the top of the list. I'm not wholly convinced that they took the right course, but pretending that Saddam's regime was some kind of good deal for Christians in the long run is a little naive. No country that persecutes a religious minority can be safe for any religious minority.

I was in basic training when the Iraq war started. At the time I was in favor for it since that meant I’d experience combat. From the little bit of information I could get, it was looking like it would all end before I finished AIT. And yeah, that happened. Little did I know, a year later I would be patrolling the outskirts of Baghdad. As mentioned in the video, I had no idea why the Iraqis would reject a democratic system. The leadership would push the “hearts and minds” thing that none of us believed. We were not at all the proper type of force for that kind of mission. All of us were trained for a high intensity conventional fight, we typically acted like that too. The army would change as time went on. The mindset shifted to counter insurgency and low intensity warfare. It got to the point that while in Korea, several soldiers would question why we were training for a fight there rather than Iraq. They did not understand why the US was in Korea nor did they consider that they might have to fight a war in the region. By the time 2011 rolled around, I was of the opinion that we should have never gotten involved in Iraq. While my fellow soldiers insisted that “we were winning” I argued otherwise, pointing out the fact the state of Afghanistan which we were seeing with our own eyes. How different would the world be if the invasion of Iraq never happened?

We officially left Iraq in 2011-2012, the Afghanistan War continued until this year. We, as Americans, have a manifest destiny where we believe everyone should be free - and have fought hard to spread it. Only, not everyone wants our brand of freedom, and it becomes a moral quandary as to if and when we should force it on them. We destabilized an entire region in the effort - which was bad, and we may have succeeded in Afghanistan if 100 percent of our resources were focused there. (And we tried for ten years post Iraq and still failed). That's why we can't go fight in Ukraine, as much as we would love to. We are only a little concerned about the nukes - but we are most concerned about the Russian people learning the truth of their leadership. If we defined Ukraine, the Russian people would only be convinced of the lies of their leader. I suppose my point is, we HAVE learned a little.
