How do you insert reference images outside the canvas without opening a new window? Also, how do you set up a perspective grid? Thanks for making this video. Most photoshop tutorials on KZbin suck.
@TheArtMentor6 ай бұрын
Glad to hear you enjoyed! Have you seen my other videos as well to help you too? for reference insertion, you can use Adobe Bridge if you want a seemless experience. For perspective grids, have you looked up those brush packs? It's pretty common

I'm trying to move from CSP to photoshop because its the professional standard and oh boy, i was 100% sure that the only thing that i had to do is change some shortcuts and get used to the interface but learning Photoshop has been nothing but pain and frustration. -You cant change shortcuts that are hardcoded to the program so you are stuck with that annoying Ctrl that auto selects your layers when you Ctrl + Z. -No flipping canvas horizontally you have to pretty much create your own way of flipping the canvas and when you finally find a way to do it, it does not save your current position so you have to move your page again to get to your drawing every time you flip the canvas. -No live preview of your File or image you have to open a duplicate of your file and move it to the side and if you move your original the other one also moves which makes the experience frustrating. -The default layer is always a locked background and if you spend time doing your sketch with our realizing it was on the default locked background layer you are fucked. -It cant work with out Windows Ink which is the worst windows extension for drawing tablets, it makes moving your pen laggy and it takes forever to click on the interfaces of the program. -Constant Pop ups of annoying error messages when you click/select on empty layers or do something you are not supposed to do. -You cant hold down Ctrl + Z to undo quickly you have to click every single time you want to undo. i really want to know if all this can be fix with plugins to make it less stressful to learn.

Welcome to Photoshop! As with switching any program, there are some minor adjustments, but all of these points are pretty easy to work around and get used to: - just remember that ctrl + z only undoes a single action at a time. You can manage this more or faster within the history palette - correct, PSD files do not generate a preview. However, if you view them on a Google Drive or Dropbox folder, you will be able to see a thumbnail preview before opening them - Just remember that default background layer element and make it a habit to make a white fill layer every time you make a new document. Then delete the original locked layer - Yes it does need windows Ink, but it sounds like you're actually having hardware issues causing that much lag. I've used this on several machines throughout the years, and that's probably due to hardware/graphics concerns and not windows Ink. Also check your tablet properties - undoing multiple times is best accomplished through the history palette, plus you can go forwards and backwards in actions multiple times You'll get comfortable, so just be patient my friend. I'm sure if I switched to CSP, I'd also have some initial headaches in adjusting haha

@TheArtMentor2 жыл бұрын
Common concern! That’s probably bc your pen pressure setting is too light. Try experimenting with that setting a little bit at a time until you feel it being comfortable to produce light AND opaque marks. Does that help?

Which tool is it that allows you to take a selection and then (im not sure the right descriptive word here) push or pull, drag, scale, stretch, or skew that selection piece that you have. For example say you have a Knight swinging a sword, and perhaps you meant to angle the blade of the sword a bit more, so i've seen artist in Photoshop make a selection and then they can adjust or move around that selction while the part of the blade that the Knight is holding is still anchored in his hand proper but they morphed the blade to have a slight more angle from the swinging motion. I hope I am describinbg the tol efficiently enough, it seems like a tool that would be used a ton in any kind of art really. Thank you for the help in advance. i'll be watching for replies as well. Thank You for this tutorial as well btw. Seeing that you can add and subtract to a selection just saved me so much time and wrist pains. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, so very very very much!
@TheArtMentor Жыл бұрын
There are a number of selection tools, but that one I use the most is the Lasso tool. With that you can hold CTRL and grab the corners to adjust angles. Thanks for watching! Any other questions?
@YouGoneMad Жыл бұрын
@@TheArtMentor I can see how he used the lasso tool to adjust the stickman setup of the head, but the NURBs type looking thing I am referring to he does a ton on the right hand, and around the chest, and on some of the thrown cards. See how it looks like a grid like table but dots at each intersection and he seems to be pulling at the dots, and essentially the same way I would edit a NURBs plane in 3DS Max.

That’s a Transform function. That’s either from making a selection, then going to Edit>Transform >Warp\Puppet Warp
@YouGoneMad Жыл бұрын
@@TheArtMentor THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have no idea how long I've been trying to make that work. I always selected just the layer itself and then tried Free Transform, but not what I wanted. Lasso tool to make my selection and then exactly as you said absolutely did the trick! Thank you so much, like seriously! I am a self taught artist but with like almost 2 semesters of graphic design classes, so either I missed that day when they taught warping, or they just didn't get to the advanced selection warping yet. One thing I do know extremely well is illustrator, and now seeing that what I was wanting this whole time uses essentially the pen tool, i am so GOLDEN right now after your help! Thank You, Thank You, thank You!

Honestly, the software doesn’t matter too much if that’s your primary concern. However, every single software is built to mimic aspects of Photoshop, which is why I have always used it along with the fact that it allows me to do whatever I want. Which program do you currently have and use?
