you would be surprised how many digital artists [professionals] dont properly understand DPI, because they never had to deal with prints. i have seen quite a few tutorials on youtube, where some professionals absolutely have no idea what it does, even some explaining it wrong. one complained he got 300 dpi images for previews, switched the dpi to 72 but never re-rendered it and continued happily working with the same amount of pixels, while believing he actually changed something. it is hilarious what you can find sometimes.

Worst mistake anyone makes is deciding 10/15/20 years of personal experience suddenly means they know all there is to know, or can't benefit from someone else's advice. The day you do that is the day you die as a creator and probably also the day you stop protecting your brain from the onset of dementia because you're no longer open minded or thinking critically, and the only reason anyone ever does it is nothing but pride.. 😒 I will proudly remain an uninformed amateur and ask as many dumb questions of people until I'm no longer able to. I'm not ashamed of that at all, in fact I'd be more ashamed to find out I'd been rejecting help and feedback because I was so up myself

Love the vid! I'd like to contribute with a couple of helpful tips too: - new layer with everything visible on screen: Ctrl+shift+alt+E - copy object, move/transform/rotate it and past several copies of it in a succession incrementally smaller/larger to the original modification (good for perspective and circular/spiral patterns): Ctrl+Alt+T, then move/ctrl+T/rotate, and Ctrl+Alt+T+T+T+T+T.... - make a new layer automatically underneath the layer you're working on: press CTRL+click on new layer - if you lasso something and copy+paste it it'll paste to the middle of the screen. You can Paste in place if you CTRL+Shift+V to paste it in the same position in a new layer. I discovered a bunch of new options just by clicking either (or a combo of) CTRL, Shift, Alt+commands/click. I know some of these are not really groundbreaking and maybe even pretty basic but they have definitely improved my workflow :)

Gradually increasing image resolution is a genius step, especially if we got low end CPU, because using big brush on big canvas can get really slow.
@aprilroseberry76914 жыл бұрын
Except it doesn't actually improve the resolution, the way photoshop works is when you increase the resolution it samples the pixel and essentially copies it to fill in the newly added pixels. Depending on how far you go, your previous painted work will become fuzzier and fuzzier. Its the same as trying to enlarge a tiny image and getting a crappy pixilated one. You cannot create a better resolution from a lower one. It will inadvertently create depth by blurring out previous layers which would be nice, but you should be aware of how it will effect things.
@fihrilkamal72964 жыл бұрын
@@aprilroseberry7691 I understand that enlarging pixel will blur the image if we turn on bicubic or bilinear enlargements on the setting or crappy pixelation when we use nearest neighbour setting, but the idea here is that we use the big brush first to lay the foundations, when we enlarge the canvas, we paint over them with smaller brush for details, since painting with smaller brush is far less cpu intensive this method is really great for low end cpu. But if we got strong computers then this method is completely unnecessary.

18:41 - Instead of "killing" all the layer info by using Ctrl-E, why not put those layers into a Smart Object? In fact, you could put everything into a Smart Object then change that into CMYK. The Smart Object will store your original RGB color space within itself and you can continue switching to CMYK if you must.

I love it when people come up with clever left field ways to use Photoshop filters. Using Proof Color that way is genius. I made another discovery recently using some of Color LUT adjustment layers. I am the opposite of what we think of as Pixel Peepers who obsess over colour spaces and spend serious money on calibration devices, so I tend to work exclusively in sRGB, and ignore d what I assumed was a way to make minute changes to image colour, but presets like Moonlight 3DL do an excellent day to night effect. So I thank you for the insight, and I will now check out some of your other videos.

I find Marco both intimidating (not sure why) and inspiring at the same time. Love his videos. I'm relatively new to digital painting and still trying to figure out the different masks. Not sure why you would go to the length of using a layer mask in Marco's example when you could just use the same brush with a blue colour. I'm sure there is a good reason though as I know masks get used a lot by the pros.
@marcobucci4 жыл бұрын
I'll take that as an odd yet welcome compliment! As for masks - in the first example with the circles, in that particular case (painting blue over the red) could be just as easily done with a brush, yes. But that example was kept super simple, just to show how layer masks work. The next example, with the landscape, shows why they're indispensable: it's a non-destructive form of editing, and you can achieve all kinds of subtle layer mixes that really matter when overseeing a complex piece.
@adamthorntonillustration92814 жыл бұрын
@@marcobucci Thanks very much for your response, Marco. Sorry about the 'intimidating' comment. I guess it's because I would love to be as good as you (working on it) and I've still a lot to learn about digital painting so feel insecure, in comparison to your very confident, proficient tone.
