@@eduardotorres7645 It means Dave wrote the Mechanix, and one day during practice Dave screwed up and played Sweet Home Alabama at the end. After they fired Dave and stole his song, they changed the lyrics -which by the way are based on Dave's ideas about the band-and added the slower end at the end of the song that was based on Dave's screw up. Dave wrote the best songs on both KEA and RTL. None of this would still be going on if James and Lars would give the guy the credit he deserves. He should be in the Rock-n-Roll HoF for crying out loud.
@spoxx18023 жыл бұрын
@@BBEEAAN Dave played Sweet Home Alabama as a joke at one rehearsal and a very drunk Lars thought it sounded great so he decided to put it in the song when he and James reworked it. The lyrics for Four Horsemen are about the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse but with changed names (Death, Famine, War, and Conquest vs. Time, Pestilence, Famine, and Death). Two songs out of eight on Ride the Lightning have a writing credit for Mustaine (Call of Ktulu and Ride the Lightning) and imo the lead parts by Cliff and Kirk respectively in those overshadow the riffs a lot in terms of quality. Dave is credited for 4/10 tracks on Kill 'Em All (two of which he objectively didn't have any part in writing, those being Anesthesia and Motorbreath); I'm not sure about how much he wrote of the remaining 4 but I think that Lars getting writing credits for songs that he wrote the vast vast majority of is bullshit.

Saw a Metallica cover band years ago they came out with four horseman they had a guitar player who looked like Dave. Well about half way thru the song he would speed up the song and start singing. Then the rest of the band stopped. Told him he was fired. The guy was actually the soundman. So he would go back to the board and the real guitar player came out and played the rest of the set.

@@VacantSpirit I started out listening to Metellica and learned about Dave after. It was all over once I heard Peace Sells. Nothing mighty Metallica has done, including Master of Puppets, has been able to out do that album, and that isn't discussing RIP. I went back to KIMB after getting hooked on Peace Sells, and was blown away by the raw power and energy of the album. I knew everything Metallica claimed about Mustaine's contributions in Metallica was a lie after that point because Dave is responsible for wroting almost 100% of the greatness on both albums. There is very little in the Megadeth catalog that I don't like, while I personally believe Bob Rock killed Metallica with the Black album -it's been a slow painful death ever since...

@Angelripper Witchhunter The song is taking sex, one things most guys like, and comparing it to cars, as seen in the chorus "make my drive shaft crank, make my pistons bulge. make my ball bearing melt from the heat." Being honest, this song is mostly about sex, and just making it so you think it is about a car.
@jameswoods44064 жыл бұрын
The song has 2 possible meanings. One is what the lyrics point out: The life of a mechanic who knows he's the best in the world, or at least, in his world. However, the song is a metaphore. Dave had sex with a girl in the old gas station where he used to work and wrote the song about that. This is seen in the chorus and when he sings "I'm giving you my room service and you know it's more than enough, one more time you know I'm in love!"

Why Megadeth's early albums (Killing is My Business... and Peace Sells) sound like they do is due to the massive influence of jazz from Chris Poland (guitars) and Gar Samuelson (drums) who were jazz musicians prior to Megadeth, plus Dave Mustaine's own bluesy-jazz mixture. One interesting note: Although much has changed in Megadeth over the years, in many later albums and songs, there is still bits of "Old-school Megadeth" style sound/playing, if one listens carefully for it.
@douglasdbs71394 жыл бұрын
Yes. BTW, Megadeth has many songs that have this bluesy-jazz touch. For example, killing is my business (the song) which I believe has a criminally underrated initial riff, also rust in peace.. polaris (all riffs till the chorus) are very jazzy, I always thought a saxphone line along the rythm guitar would fit perfectly in the part Dave is singing "Winds blow from the bowels of hell , Will we give warning, only time will tell, Satan rears his ugly head, to spit into the wind..."

Solid guitarist for early Megadeth. Still think Marty is god, though. Kiko and Broderick are my second and third favourite guitar players in Megadeth. I love Poland, but he’s really too similar to Dave in terms of solo writing. Pentatonic and blues scale is great, but when both guitarists live in those zones in one band it kinda blurs together a bit too much. Dave plays better with guitarists who compliment his playing rather than completely mirror his playing like Poland does.

@@derpimusmaximus8815 Yeah, that's correct. He'd already written the whole song before even joining Metallica; they simply did their own thing with it. I find it kind of disrespectful that Metallica didn't write a new riff for the song after firing Mustaine, but I can kind of understand why they kept it considering how difficult re-writing it around a new riff would be. That said, it sucks that the original writer of the song published it second, forever trapped behind the veil of "That's just a Metallica song but worse."

Imagine you were at my station And you brought your motor to me Your a burner yeah a real motor car Said you wanna get your order filled Made me shiver when I put it in Pumping just won't do ya know luckily for you Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge, Melt my ball bearings from the heat Oh yeah yeah We were shifting hard when we took off Tonight it's all four on the floor When we hit top end you know it feels so slow Said you wanna get your order filled Made me shiver when I put it in Pumping just won't do ya know luckily for you Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge Melt my ball bearings from the heat Oh yeah yeah Oh! I'm giving you my room service And ya know it's more than enough Oh one more time ya know I'm in love Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge Melt my ball bearing from the heat Oh yeah yeah! Imagine you were at my station And you brought your motor to me With all four on the floor I feel what's in store Whoever thought you'd be better At turning a screw than me I do it for my life Made my drive shaft crank Made my pistons bulge Melt my ball bearings from the heat Oh yeah yeah!

Wanna hear the gnarliest guitar tone ever? Listen to Mechanix from the Last Rites demo. Truly extraordinary. Edit: listen to the tone at around the 1:42 mark in the demo. That has never been topped, in my opinion, in terms of sheer throat-ripping nastiness.

"your brother yell, your mother call" - Dave Mustaine 1985
@danielblake15374 жыл бұрын
One major difference between The Four Horsemen & The Mechanix was how seriously corny Dave Mustaine's lyrics were originally was what was going to be used on "The Four Horsemen" but once Dave was kicked out the band the rest of the Metallica guys decided they liked the riff but they knew the original lyrics that Dave Mustaine wrote when he was a young boy working at a gas station/repair shop where I think Dave either pumped the gas for people or he was detailing people's cars....and he wrote the original lyrics as a teenage fantasy of him working at that car place and some hot girl pulls up in her nice car and Dave used all these sexual innuendos/double entandras about "cars & sex" but it was REALLY corny...so thank God Metallica decided to use the riff but switch the lyrical content andddd Metallica also added pretty much my favorite part of "The Four Horsemen" that awesome Bridge part right before the first solo....that to me was the hardest part of that song especially if you watch them do that song and that part Live in Seattle 89' during the Live Shit: Binge & Purge!! And literally lastnight I found a REALLY good documentary on the early days of Metallica and it was talking about and showing pictures of these awesome Metallica letterhead blank sheets of papers with the Metallica logo embossed on the top where James would write the early lyrics to the songs that eventually made up Kill Em' All but I had no clue until lastnight after watching the doc that the original lyrics to "Jump In The Fire" were just as corny as the original lyrics to The Four Horsemen....I paused the video so I could actually read what James or maybe Dave wrote down the first lyrics for Jump in the fire and it was saying shit AGAIN with the sexual innuendos but they weren't very clever and I believe they were messing around with parts of that song back when James was in the band "Leather Charm" but thank God they changed the lyrics to what we all know and love now!! Back then when I heard those lyrics I was like damnnn Mann I never really realized how much the band was trying to get appeal from the Glam hair band crowds which majority of their type of songs were always about girls, cars and partying and was surprised to see 2 songs that were directly about girls before they got changed for the better!!

The ride transition makes sense to me, he went from hihat, to two crash hits down to the ride. He probably went left to right on the crashes and then his hand would be right near his ride, plus the hihat crushed kinda sound during the solo probably wouldn't sound as good

Yeah, the solo sounds a little bit like Holy Wars because at least in my vision, that's Mustaine shred style, with the grouping of 3 notes per string that he always used in lots of solos, especially in old Megadeth songs

That whole first album is awesome. K.I.M.B. is just complete chaos from start to finish! Love Testament. They just dropped a new album last month. A newer album to check out is "The Formation of Damnation" great killer comeback album from 2008 from Testament. Anthrax" For all Kings" is awesome. Saw them on that tour with Joey. Great show. Thankx

Dave gives the story of the slow middle part . He said Cliff loved lynyrd skynyrd and always listened to them on the way to practice . One day Lars said " man this song needs aslow part in the middle " Dave fucking around played the sweet home alabama riff with the end cut off and Lars said " man thats genius " youll never hear that part in the 4 horsemen the same way after realizing its deffinitly sweet home alabama .

Mechanix was an "original " Metallica track on the no life till leather album put together by john zazzuza. The band had to travel to new York to record it and other tracks that eventually found their way onto kill em all. The band still featured mustaine as lead guitarist and ron mcgovney on bass.

Gar was such a phenomenal drummer, check out there London Odeon gig from 1987. Mechanix sounds ridiculous and possibly slightly faster.

What a lot of people.don't realize is that Mechanix predates the Four Horsemen. It's the original version of the song. It was played a little slower though. Qs great as James is, I'm not sure he could have kept up with this tempo on this song. It's pretty brutal.

If you want to check out new Anthrax, Worship Music and For All Kings are both great. Doing wise, maybe You Gotta Believe (love that interlude solo), Breathing Lightning, or Blood Eagle Wings, or maybe something like Crawl. Testament though have a lot of great new songs and great albums, from The Gathering, Formation of Damnation, Dark Roots of Earth, Brotherhood of the Snake, and the newest Titans of Creation (all also mixed/producer by Andy Sneap. First Strike Still Deadly is ok too, just modern recordings of older songs from The Legacy, and The New Order.

That was hilarious with the lyrics and I have to admit that when you said you haven't heard it in long time but remember that Dave was hard to understand, I was like "wtf is this guy talking about? Dave was not hard to understand at all." I haven't heard it in forever but I still thought you were wrong. You were right though, lol. Maybe it's the poor audio quality or Dave was just starting to flex his vocals. You're subtitles are about the same thing I heard. I definitely don't recall Dave ever singing about whales and Obama but sounded like he was. Lol
