Yeah, that's the album that introduced me to Portishead. It's just so groovy and stylish. It reminds of the anime 'Cowboy Bebop' in a lot of ways. Very smooth.

The Cure albums were the most cathartic for me during dark times. The lyrics spoke to me so personally and the atmospheric music just encapsulated my mood. Particularly the albums - Faith, Pornography, Disintegration, Wish, Bloodflowers we’re so vital to me dealing with my emotions. Robert Smith was essentially my musical psychiatrist/counsellor. I also connected with: Smashing Pumpkins - Adore Oasis - The Masterplan (Bsides collection) The Crow Soundtrack Garbage - Self Titled & 2.0 Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral & The Fragile

Hi Mike I've just discovered your channel recently as I have just bought my 1st guitar at the grand old age of 59. Hopefully with your advice and tips I'm going to give it a good go. I also like how you have mixed in your favourite music too. I'm a big Thin Lizzy fan so eventually I'm hoping to learn to play along with a few of their songs. Best wishes from Gareth from South Wales in the UK 🎸🤘

🤘🏻 More awesome choices, a few more I need to add to my CD collection. It's funny I was actually looking at the copy of Mad Season I've got saved in my watch list on eBay just yesterday. Loved the Crow when I watched it, need to get the soundtrack. Soundtracks to movies and TV shows are where I've discovered a lot of great music over the years. Got the Gin Blossom and The Jayhawks albums, love them both so much, I've got a handful of tracks from the Pearl Jam albums you mentioned, need to fill in the gaps, bought the Dream Theater album some time ago too. A couple on there I don't have yet , but all in good time. I love how powerful music is and that it can help us through these dark times in our lives, it truly is a gift that keeps on giving.

This movie and soundtrack feel a part of me from high school. I dressed as The Crow in high school, played this on my guitar, went to Wilmington to visit the filming locations and Brandon Lee is perfect. Ofcourse sTp! :) I worked security for Korn and it was the night of the Tyson fight where he bit Holyfield's ear. They were super nice, invited me on their bus while getting hand trucks of mini cereal boxes lol and opened the curtains on the bus so I could see the tv!

Black always takes me back to a time when high school had ended and the girl I had been stuck in the friend zone with had moved away and the girl I was crushing on was uninterested. You're right it can bring those sad feelings back even 25 years later. I know I listened to Something I Can Never Have then as well, and A.I.C Love Hate Love. It's not all bad NIN has both highs and lows. I had NIN's Kinda I Want Too going through my head when my wife and I first kissed. That album can take me the full spectrum of feelings due to the memories it can bring back.

Hopesfall has a few heavy old albums that push the boundaries of what melancholy emotions can become indulgeable with music.Kind of an acquired taste band, but I feel like guitarist are more likely to get into them than anyone. I think the end part of the song 'the end of an era' being on the radio here had big influence in my friend getting really into guitar. The album 'A Types' or 'magnetic north' are probably best options to randomly check out. It's like yearn core or something

One of the best bands of the 90s, and I have very middle of the road tastes.

@@TheArtofGuitar Nothing wrong at all with those things, I just don't think they describe the album. No big deal obviously, you're a real cool guy, and I didn't mean to bring any negativity to you. Your videos are top-notch, and your enthusiasm is infectious. That Mad Season song always puts me in Caroga Lake, NY in 1995 Made me think of another album - Barenaked Ladies - Rock Spectacle. One of the best live albums I've ever heard, I put it on par with 5-Man Acoustical Jam. BNL was SO good live, saw them at Saratoga Race Track in 1998 (shit I only learned of Devin T this year, had no idea I'd been listening forever already) Billy Joel - Miami 2017: I played that multiple times on 9-11, it allowed me to feel that it had already been over for a long time and we were on the mend. A bunch from Turnstiles, The Bridge, Nylon Curtain... Suppose everything that came before Innocent Man. Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, then one of the biggest early on was Van Halen Dreams and the OU812 and 5150 albums. Childhood musical psychotherapy. Then ALL time favorite is Rhapsody In Blue. American Air programmed me with that one as a little kid watching the weather channel for snow. Fly the friendly skies, man.
