Thanks for sharing your thoughts on one of my favorites, Ted. My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing a Callahan + Aaron Siskind exhibit in our city. My wife, who I wouldn't describe as being "into" photography, was moved by Callahan's images.

Thanks for doing an episode on this guy! I've seen his "Chicago" piece (of the man and woman walking in opposite directions) a long time ago in a museum and that picture has always stayed with me.

The picture of the parking lot in snow from above is NOT a Callahan image, but a Lazlo Moholy-Nagy image.

Good to see an episode on Callahan. He is sadly not as famous as others of his generation. One of the photographers I know here in Atlanta was a student of his from the Rhode Island days. Interesting to hear various stories and stuff about him. Recently I learned whenever he got stuck in his work, he would start shooting 'doubles' (double exposures) to break the routine. He certainly took the idea to another level. Funny to think, he might have been in an creative rut when doing them.

Ted, I enjoy the discussions on who is who in photography and especially getting into the weeds with the lesser known artists.

Was not aware of this guy before watching this. Thank you. It's a shame in a way that creatively the techniques he used are now almost redundant as people would do this in post prod. Doing this in camera with film would have been so ground breaking at the time.

Thanks, Ted. I've never heard of Harry Callahan and I'm happy to say now I do. Excellent episode. I understand the idea of not getting caught up in the gear but what if you're an avid photographer who wants to move up from the Rebel genre in order to get better overall images. What would you suggest? my interest is street photography and portraits.

Hi Ted, I was wondering if you have any tips on his actual technique (for a total beginner like myself)? His photos seem to often be very high contrast - is that something done by pushing film, or brought out in the dark room do you think? Thanks!
