The first thing I thought of was to take it down to the canvas. When I make a bad mistake on one of my models I sometimes remove all the paint and start over or if it's a small area I'll remove the paint in that area and in the repaint tring to disguise it as damage that has been repaired. There's always a solution. Thanks for the video. I really enjoy watching you work.

A very similar incident happened to me recently. After a short period of frustration and self-pity, I decided to try and fix it. Happily, I was able to do so. This tutorial contains such great advice. I’m learning so much, thank you!

Really fancy a sotar wanted to ask what you think about it

I love the sotar. It's always been one of my favorite detail airbrushes. I heard from some on here that they are expensive in the UK. Great for around $100 US, but I wouldn't pay more than that.

Ill jump in and say the sotar is a awesome detail brush and my go too for medium fine to fine detail work. But ill also second Mark and say dont pay much more that 100 for one

this one is on a 30x24" canvas. I cropped and zoomed in on the face to make it easier to paint.

How would you repair a larger area? I am copying a painting by Constantin Hansen (Bildnis von Christiane Kobke (1854)) and have gone too dark on the shoulder and I'm losing my highlights. I've been working on this on and off since November and it's really cheesing me off to the point of throwing it away! I'm having real trouble getting the subtle depressions in clothing right, my previous painting suffered from the same fault. I'm ok with folds in clothing as I can start with a hard edge, but I find I can't get the clothing to 'flow' naturally if that makes sense? Cheers Dave

really depends. You can paint over it with opaque paints. Using them with an airbrush will help paint smooth transitions in fabric.

@@theartworkshop My humblest apologies, I've watched that video and it was the one that inspired me to start my current project, but I forgot about the creases and folds on the dress! I've learned an incredible amount from your tutorials and my painting has got so much better from watching them. Re-watching the video I think that my problem was that I've applied too much paint and have now overworked it, thank you for replying as it has made me think about how I'm painting, and analysing my mistakes. I hate moments like that. Had one recently when I didn't tighten the bottom of the paint cup enough and looked down to see drips on the painting. Now I know what to do.😂

haha! I've dropped my paint cup a few times too from not tightening it. Luckily never on a painting!
