Excellent video! Explaining how the needle tension screw in the back is also responsible for keeping the needle secure in the nozzle is a very useful insight. Every time I watch your videos I get a better understanding of my airbrushes, and I have been airbrushing since 1996. Dred and I are still looking forward to your assessment of the new Mobius airbrush; pretty sure you like it because you’re obviously having fun with it. Great tutorial! The needle packing screw works just like the big guns! Too tight and the needle won’t slide the way it should. Too loose it will leak! Great instructions Mark! 👊🏽👍🏽

That last tip is something I always wondered about. When I re-inserted the needle I was concerned that tightening the chuck would push the needle further forward into the nozzle and damage the tip so after I pushed the needle in I'd wait for it to make contact with the nozzle then back it out just a hair before I tightened the chuck. Been airbrushing for about 30 years and still learning. Your channel is by far the most helpful one out there.

thanks for the kind words. You'll be fine as long as you don't force or jam the needle into the nozzle. Just place it into the nozzle until you feel that contact point (no need to retract it from there) and screw down the chucking nut. Hope that helps!

great video, I would apprciate something similar for Mr Hobby Creos airbrush which is pretty similar but still there are some differences comparing to Iwata, so maybe a comparison video showing differences?

@@theartworkshop yeah I personally have almost all of Mr Hobby ones but love to see the comparison to see what's the benefit (if any) of switching to Iwata, I expect better quality and easier cleaning but at the same time more expensive replacement parts...either way keep it up great channel!

Mate, try an AB turbo... tough I'm repairing one again. In the 60's we used to grind the handle slots ... took the companies years to catch up... LOL ...To be honest I use badger needle juice on most. On the AB's i use white grease in the grease cap on the bottom. I use synthetic oil in the top bearing.

@@theartworkshop I an a Yank who after 9 years US Army (Vietnam-2/502 Infantry, 101st Airborne) left. In MI after Vietnam I was stationed at Selfridge Air Force base (5th Army). I taught at Macomb Community College 2 nights a week and one night at the Base Automotive Hobby shop. (every guy and his brother wanted to paint murals).. I used Paasche VL's and Thayler Chandler Mdl A for detail and motor cycles. I got an offer to teach Airbrush Techniques in Australia in 1979 so, took my sons and moved here. I did photo retouch work on wedding photos and also some ad/catalog work (boring as heck!). I have a degree in fine arts and I used the airbrush to add color to my water color landscapes, as it didn't mix up the base colors. I used the AB for my fine art work. It's a very hard brush to dial in, you can set the Turbo speed, on top of the finger setting... Paasche claimed it could spin up to 20,000 RPM??. You can space the distance from the paint pick up/needle. Also you can set the stipple effect so you can match the photos. They stopped making them in the mid 80's I think. I used to demonstrate them in 81'-83'. I bought up all the parts I could here in Oz. I know Paasche moved out of Chicago to Wisconsin, try calling them. Sadly all my connections there have either retired or passed on. I now have three (found the last one in a box with a "Binks Wren" single action from the 1960's with the plastic brush box and the cardboard shipping box. I have one here from a retired illustrator (72 years old) I knew from "The Daily Telegraph" (Murdoch). He picked it up for (he said) $650 ... I've seen working ones for a grand! I was lucky as I had things like needle guides, 5 packs of needles. It's nice you make the effort to post the little things. I knew one artist in NZ who also had a few. Very talented Lady. I got her a used one here in the 90's ... but as you stated, very hard to find. I'm unsure of the date, but I think the patent was in 1907 or 02' ... so there should be some in garages somewhere. They also made a right handed and left handed mdls. Good luck. I also met the guy who bought all the Olympus stock when the owner retired. He's married to a Japanese Lady and they life in Queensland. I sold all mine years ago. I use to be the service agent and demonstrated here in Oz for Iwata. I only have an HPC ... it's old as I had to swap out the old rubber washers... problems with Lacquer thinners... God, I'm so old...LOL

Just got my airbrush. was spraying perfectly today. I took it apart to clean with the Medea kit, put it back together and while air is sprayed out, no paint (water/anything) is coming out. Additionally if I put something in front of the nozzle and spray I dont get any bubbles in the cup. My needle doesnt look bent when I look at it magnified...is it a sealant issue? If I remove the head, paint/water dribbles out.

what airbrush are you using? Bubbles are usually the result of the nozzle not seated properly or the nozzle cap is loose. I would check those to make sure everything is in place, but hand tight only! it's so easy to break a part by over tightening. After you inserted the needle, did you make sure to screw down your needle chucking nut?

I have the same one, and honestly it only worked once. I took ot apart, cleaned it, and it only works for a few seconds before the stream becomes small then it clogs

For me, the reason why I remove the needle from the front, is because I don't want dried paint to damage the needle packing seal. I imagine the Createx paint you use is easier to manage. I use lacquers and if I empty the airbrush it dries up super fast and becomes very hard. When I do remove it from the back I feel how it grates the seal. This is for floating nozzles though. I would never do it for screw in mini nozzles, here I am 100% aligned with you, only remove these when necessary

Of course, always go with whichever you prefer! You have a pretty great point about lacquers and createx colors which are alsoulty a much softer paint. Floating nozzles just make everything so much easier right? I just love them too. Thanks for the great comment.

The only one that talks about the paint engagement point. Did you ever find a way to fix that on H&S? Or do I have to but a GSI Creos. I am having issues doing precise work with my H&S Silverline

I have a Badger Patriot 105 and it doesn't work double action any more paint comes out when the trigger is pushed not pulled back. Any idea what parts I'd look at to replace?

First question is how old is the airbrush? Badger has been awesome in the past at replacing or fixing parts under warranty. But that sounds to me a lot like there is a problem with the nozzle or needle, like a small clog of dried paint or damage. Does the airbrush trigger pull back okay?

My guess would be needle or nozzle damage and I would probably replace those 2 parts. Could be something else but that would be my take on it. But I would contact badger and see if they can help you out @@striperhunter-ic2wt
