I am 70 years old and I have always been terrified of pit bulls. Then a neighbor moved down the road, we live in the country. 2 years ago this crazy scary pit bull ran up to my 5 week old 1/2 Golden 1/2 Lab retriever, and they have been sweethearts ever since. Thank goodness they are both fixed or we would have silly looking puppies. Sometimes I call my buddy and ask “ can Wiley spend the night? “ I absolutely love this pit bull.

@Mariska B. It's illegal in some countries. You call the RSPCA or whatever local authority deals with animal abuse when you see it and the dog owner gets a visit, is informed and warned not to do it again, or if the animal is in poor shape in any way it's confiscated and you may get to go to court, be banned from ownership of pets. It's inhumane as is crating a dog all day when you work full time. Totally animal abuse in Scandinavia, Germany and other nations that insure an extreme level of animal wellfare and dont have ferral, abandoned, broken dogs everywhere because of it. Americans hate all form of regulations. Even though it means any sick person can get an uzi, hoard and mistreat animals systematically, keep their children isolated from society their entire childhood, and let their company dump toxic waste in the water without repercussions. That's your choice. Your version of democratic equal rights and fair government. It will forever be completely mystifying. Yet everyone seems hooked on guys like Lee and what they do, it makes NO sense!

He has chronic wounds on his legs and will become a double amputee Sept 13th. He will be so much happier and healthier and be able to get around so much better without his wheelchair. He is such a honey and listens well and is truly a good boy. His name is Brody.

He is very lucky to have found you with your large and generous heart! The thing that astounds me the most about these pitties is their huge capacity to forgive! It seems that no matter how truly horrendous they have been beaten and abused by humans, they are still so willing to forgive and love the next human that comes along and shows them kindness. Get yourself ready to be showered with undying gratitude and unconditional love when his procedures are over and he's able to move around again! Our pit mix used to fall off the couch and look at us like we had pushed her off. She just had no idea where her butt was…unless she wanted you to hit the base of her tail where she had dry skin. She was a big story teller too, usually about how we weren’t giving her the table scraps she could smell. We called it her “Every body hates me, nobody loves me, I might as well go eat worms” story. She didn’t have any brakes either. She would come at you full tilt and you had to put your knee into her chest to stop her. She also loved hide and seek, especially once we moved from an apartment to a house with a yard.

They are working dogs, not city and apartment dogs. They can cause lots of damage including death when in the wrong family's home. People are too ignorant to understand this so they continue getting a bad reputation. Pitbull advocates are the breed's downfall. They lie and put the dogs in the wrong homes. When they belong working on a farm.

In those days it was Staffies as far as I know. Pit bulls are a much later breed with Staffies in the mix. But yes, you are right. Alot of popular dog breeds came about due to the industrial revolution and world wars with loads of women working and no public childcare. If I remember correctly French Bulldogs were specifically bred for women in textile factories. Small enough to keep under the sewing station, snugglebuggs and a deterrent to any aggressive overseer. Pitties like staffies where stand in for Nannies. Ie would protect the home from intruders and be tolerant with the kids, wouldn't stray if let out and let the neighbors know if something was wrong. Extremely loyal and emotionally aware.

There are too many pit bulls and not enough good homes for them. The problem is two-fold: money-grubbing breeders, and Craigslist, which provides free advertising for their merchandise, and merchandise is all these wonderful, loving dogs are to them. It's all business. And when the ones who don't get sold, or don't work out with their owners, where do they wind up? At shelters, often high kill. If you mentioned that to breeders or to Craigslist, they would wonder, "and your point is...?"

We have had 6 pit bulls and they are the sweetest! We recently adopted. Butters, an 11 month old fawn pit bull from a shelter. He was 24 hours from being put down. He is the biggest baby and we can just tell that he is so graceful to us for bringing him home. We also have Marley, she is a 2 year old blue nose. I wish I could save them all.

Worked in rescue for years and a part of the reason so many attacks are credited to pits is due to mislabeling. Anything with a slightly square shaped head will be labled pit mix. That being said, Dolce was the best dog I ever had. Lost her young to bone cancer in her pelvis. Inoperable. She was a darling to every person and dog she ever met. Smothered the puppies in affection and would ragdoll in your arms. Miss her so much every day.

All my pittie experiences have been loving and amazing. Rosebud was a big mush and she let her mom put pink polish on her toenails... completely nonchalant. The other boy was my first interaction with a pittie, at a friend's house. Watching TV, sitting on the floor, he licked my hand for so long then took his teeth and pulled my class ring off my finger. I had to go in there to get it back and the worst of it all? Washing off the saliva. Laughing! Pitties have bad reputations and it's awful. Thank you for raising awareness, Lee. With love, -- K

Beautiful message. I rescued Oslo a 1 yr. old Pitbull April 2022. He had patches of hair and scabs all over with every bone showing, it broke my heart. He is now 88 lbs. with a beautiful blue coat and a heart filled with love and joy. In the beginning he would lay on the other side of the room with his back to me. I'd throw a toy and he would get it and then back to the other side of the room. LOL Anyway I took too fast of a sip of coffee and started to cough, and he ran to me jumped up and started licking my mouth trying to help me. That was the most precious thing that I have ever experienced with a dog, and I have had dogs all of my life. 🥰

Totally agree, breed specific legislation is immoral and abhorrent. The amount of times someone is attacked or bitten by a dog and they say " OH It was a pitbull type dog!!! " and all the papers plaster that everywhere, then it turns out to be a bloody Dalmation, a CHOW, a retriever but do they correct it and apologise? hell no :(

Any dog can be vicious if trained that way. It is the one at the end of the lead that is the issue. Often people decide if the dog is a Pitbull is just if it looks like one. There is not genetic 'Pitbull'. They are the most overbred dog I believe.

I had a pit bull-chow mix and he was the absolute joy in our lives. Buster was very protective if someone came into my house when I said no. But he was such a silly goof, he'd probably lick you to death when he knows I'm okay with whoever came into our home. And when you called him, he always came to you with such abandon and his chest hit your legs, the couch - whatever the endpoint of his target. We adopted my daughter and Buster let her do anything to him she wanted. I would have another pit in a second, but I have three dogs right now and two are geriatric (and so am I LOL)! Thank you for getting involved in changing the pit bull reputation. All the best Lee, and God Bless you, your team and your animals!

I adopted my first pitbull about 9 years ago. He's still with me. He's unique in that he is not hyper and is so chill. Everyone that meets him loves him and i always wonder, how did I get such a great dog?! I am speechless to express how much I love him and how much he loves me. As long as he can keep his eyes open, he gazes at me with so much love. If he hears me sigh, he wakes up, lifts his head and looks at me, like...'are you ok'?. It's so sad that so many people have such a hatred and fear of them. Thanks for telling people about the blessings one will get if they adopt a pit bull. One thing....when I adopted him, I knew it was important that he understood what I say goes...I am the alpha and I enforce my mandates. Not cruelly, but strongly. Dogs need an alpha owner. It's their nature.

My son recently adopted his second pitbull from a shelter. She is 3 yrs old just the sweetest thing! His first one was found dumped at a gas station while they were on vacation. She was only 3 months old! They had to rescue her and she thought she was an 80 lb lap dog, as does the new one, Autumn. The difference is he doesn't know her past like he did the puppy, so they are still getting to know each other and sometimes she tries to test her boundaries, but he and his wife are very committed to her and do have some experience. You're right about them being smart, incredibly protective, loyal and so comical! Just great dogs! Thanks for everything you do. P.s. Poppy is so beautiful and precious!

Oh thank you so much for such a fabulous overview of the bully breed. My best dog ever, who was so like Jack, passed away last year . We tried everything...for his cancer and he fought for 2 whole years . The strength of his character, and tenacity kept him going...and then the cancer got him. The hole in my heart is gaping...and will never be filled with another dog's love like he filled mine. He was a cross bred American Bulldog, Great Dane and Boxer mix and I will never find a dog like him. I have his brothers and sisters but this beautiful dog was my soulmate. Life is not the same without him. He would have died defending me...but was Mr Manners with everyone. I believe his love was the purest love you can find or hope for. No human's love could surpass his capacity to love, and to show his love. The world is a much colder place without him.

Pitbulls are great dogs. It's irresponsible owners that give them a bad name. I have rescued a handful of pitbulls over the years. Never had any problems with them. They got along with other dogs too. One of them was dumped in a cemetery because she had mange. She was the sweetest dog. The community came out to support and donated a lot of money for her care. It was awesome.

People thought my first rescue was a "Pitbull" but we're in Britain so that's a death sentence, he was actually staffy whippet cross. He chose me, my bf at time was trying so hard to get his attention but that boy had eyes on me from the very second I went in building so we adopted him and tho I was cautious at first I am so glad I had the heart and knowledge of when an animal chooses you it's always the right fit (he had been adopted out and returned a number of times before coming to us and he was petrified of anything that resemble rescue or enclosure) I have since adopted another staffy whippet and one full staffy without any apprehension they are honestly the best dogs I've known and I'm so thankful the late Prince showed me how great a rescue dog is. All my dogs have previously been attacked by other dogs and not even attempted to defend themselves they always hide right behind me and when on lead they lead me straight home coz that is always their safe space.

Look how often Lee has shown what love, kindness, patience and respect can do for an animal. Thought should really be given to what breed of dog you should get. The same can be said about a horse vs. Pony damage and my Rottweilers. These big powerful dogs need to be trained, socialized, and worked with and exercised, just as you have said with Pities. Rotties, like Pitbulls, were bred in Germany to protect herds of cattle and pull the farmer's money cart from selling some cattle. Like Pitbulls, because they are extremely loyal and protective, they have all been " trained " to highlight their aggressive tendencies. I hate it. Yes,they are very strong and very loyal to their person and family. But handled properly, the breeds are wonderful animals and can be funny as hell. I too had a Rottie that sat on the couch as a human. And when he was tired, he would pull down a cushion from the back of the couch, lie down and put his head on it! Hysterical! ❤ U Lee

What a wonderful video and such a great explanation of how they are. I wish people would stop treating them so badly and that the good people who have the fear of the breed open their eyes to how wonderful they are. So many that are abused are still so trusting and loving to humans when they have every right to not be. They are one of a kind!

I dated an ER doctor, and many people are attacked/bitten by a dog then, if it is a bigger dog, say that it is a Pitbull, even if that is not the breed. I also think that they are so devoted to their owner, they will do anything to please them. I think the most horrible thing is when someone gets a Pitbull for fighting. Even if the Pitbull is not wanting to fight, they will do it to please their owner. We've had unleashed dogs in the neighborhood run up to our leashed Pitbull aggressively and she looks to us for guidance. I'm sure she would protest us if they wanted to hurt us, but she DOES NOT WANT TO FIGHT. She cannot get or give enough love. My 15-year-old Chiwawa is actually the alpha in our house.
