Kelli and Matthew need no introduction. Kelli, in particular, is Broadway's leading leading lady, especially since Audra MacDonald has chosen to spend so much time in non-musical TV series and films. It seems a shame to me that their voices have to be amplified. Even a good sound system places a barrier between the singer's pure voice and what the audience hears. Kelli, I believe, has a degree in opera and is making her opera debut at the Met in January, 2015. Does she really need to have her voice amplified? What did vocalists at Carnegie Hall do before amplification existed? Were they all Ethel Mermans?
