@David Anewman Oh. While a minister, I could no longer be honest within the church. I will not disparage them, since it was my own beliefs that changed. It is an honest living now, as: 1. I have never been encouraged to push a sale, even when adding warranties or credit. I sell millions per year, but make no promises of performance, reliability, delivery or install dates. 2. As a minister, it was expected that I appeal to emotion, especially in youth ministry. I was good at it, but it was sick. 3. in my current job, I can be honest with others. It's only come up a couple of times in 5 years, but some people at work know I'm atheist. If just 1 person knew at my church, it would mean lost job, home, and community. 4. My wife, a deacon, knows I am an unbeliever. That's the most honest living I know. whew!

It never ceases to amaze me the way Christians use the Bible to prove the Bible true. The guy at around 36:00 is using Acts to deduce who wrote the gospel of Mark. It’s like using a Super-Friends comic to prove the existence of Wonder Woman.

@Dave Males (and THE PEOPLE SING) Well, in a way it IS amazing that these shows still NEED to be created. THE PEOPLE SING is right in that both the theist callers try to peddle the same old debunked arguments (and I also have to admit they are usually INDEED unbelievably arrogant) and that the show hosts offer the appropriate (but inevitably indeed also the same) rebuttals. "Atheist Minion" however, is a contradiction in terms; theists apparently still don't get it that atheism is precisely DEVOID of anything to follow. For all I know, the only thing one needs to "follow" or "submit to" (i.e. *UNDERSTAND),* are the rules of logic. But apparently, this is terra incognita to theists. So, these compartmentalized egos probably get their kick out of repeating the ruthless power ramblings of their favorite ancient brutal egotistical imaginary sky agent, hero, friend, and archetypal mafia boss. So I guess that the show hosts will indeed have to be satisfied toasting those until they're done. Fun for the audience to listen to, though... ;-)

THE PEOPLE SING A show where people discuss and point out the flaws of religious beliefs? How absurd! For real though, you seem scared and offended. I wonder why.
@SilentMonkey2010x
@SilentMonkey2010x 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct that the shows seem very similar. The core question is, "Why do you believe what you believe?" and "is this position rationally justified?" What would be innovative and different is if an answer was provided that made sense. And if exploring the reasons about why you believe in religion is just arrogance and satisfying minion's compartmentalized ego boosts, then Friday/Saturday/Sunday services are really weird activities that a lot of people participate in.

Therefore God does not exist." Cheers, mate.

How's THAT for an ontological argument, eh? Find the fallacy ;-) Cheers, pal.

@@arjanstam78 First, to be clear, all this is tongue-in-cheek. But if we are going to say "Elvis is still dead", _we are making a positive claim._ At that point, burden of proof would be on us. So we shouldn't do so without having checked the tomb. In this case, we're "arguing against supernatural whatsit". So we can't, at the same time, presume "no supernatural whatsit".

This is part of the programming. Changing the definition of words helps create a feedback loop. You see it in this show all the time, where theists just can't get past their completely loaded definitions for words like morality, truth and evidence, good and evil or right and wrong, belief or faith, and as that last caller proved, they often don't know what Atheism means... You can't have a productive conversation with someone who doesn't agree on definitions or who adds religious baggage to words

1:22:37 i dont care this isnt about knowledge its a question about belief and reasonableness so theists believe theres a god i dont care if they claim to know it. Atheists do not believe in a God. They dont claim to know that there is no God.

I think that this was a fantastic show. Both of you are so eloquent and clear with your thoughts it amazes me. You leave no doubt in my mind anymore that what you speak is true. The jury for me has spoken. There is no God. Today I went to see Aron Ra in Denver. I got here because of a love of dinosaurs and a lack of being brought up in a church. Aron Ra reached me on a factual level beyond belief today. Once here people like you two and also Tracy have made it so clearly evident. I also found a card from the Secular Hub in Denver and look forward to a lifetime free from lies and deception. Thank you so much for your wisdom and patience. I hope to learn more and look forward to becoming more involved in my community thru the Secular Hub here. With me you have answered my questions and have found success. Your efforts have been worth while and as I walked out of Mr. Ra's speech today I actually found myself speaking with a young gal and sharing my new knowledge and strength. I found someone struggling with religion as I was. Actually she opened a conversation about what the event was about. I had a small bit of confusion. It was about evolution however it was also about God. You have done well by me Mr. Dilahunty and friends by providing me with the knowledge (key) to rest at ease with my thoughts and invited me into a community that I can trufully embrace with a strong conviction. Please put a mark down for someone that will never look back. Today was truly a good day. - And I was gonna go to heaven so I just gave up a lot for truth and wisdom and I am fine with being honest.

For people like Mike: Tell us something YOU do NOT believe in. Are YOU lying about it? (of course he'll just dissemble and come up with lame excuses why it's not the same) Only when someone claims to believe something they don't believe (or vice versa) are they lying. I'd put most apologists in the former category.

Dreams are always your brain trying to sort the day, your anxiety. There are symbols, but most we don't remember. More in childhood, less as you get older. Only when getting through really troubling time would a dream implant forward memory.
@richardgates7479
@richardgates7479 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, except for the symbols. Any symbols would be pointers to a memory, such as a person that you can't really remember what they look like. And if you wake and remember some of it you might conclude that it really wasn't the person you thought you were dreaming of. Or you dream of being back at school and you were talking to someone on the stairs, and you wake up and remember your school didn't have stairs. Perhaps the brain is sorting this stuff out because it has nothing better to do?

The apologetics on slavery are embarrassing for Christians. (Paraphrasing Davis's point) "God was laying out rules for how to buy, sell and treat slaves because he knew there would always be slavery"... Oh, so he can outlaw murder (which still happens too if you hadn't noticed) but slavery he's powerless against?!? Damn you apologists are disgusting!

The entire idea of a god having to communicate through a dream completely destroys the idea that a god wants a relationship with everyone. God apparently can only communicate with his creations when their brain is in sleep mode, their god must not be powerful enough to actually show him or herself.

May I just say - I'm so glad matt is now back in the swing , and with a revised bad ass attitude I might add. The atheist experience went through a bit of a slump ( other than whenever Jen and Tracy were on). But now I absolutely love watching it! I get tired of the mamby pamby nice-ness of us atheists always having to cater to the needs of theists and letting them get away with their obviously!! silly nonsense. Matt and even Tracy nowadays have to time for that anymore. That's great! With the advent of the internet, people have no excuses to be this ignorant anymore. In 2019 !!!

The argument that God hasn’t updated the Bible in a long time almost converted me from Catholicism to Islam because it just makes so much sense that God would send an updated and specific version of his word in the Quran. And then I realized I had no reason to believe either book is true.
