I’ve noticed a lot of people make arguments which are rebutted. Then just move onto another argument. Thereby dodging defending their argument against the rebuttal or conceding its flaws. Which is why the panic and become defensive like MacGruber did and they say stuff like “I don’t need to defend it”. At which point they’re conceding that they can defend their argument. Otherwise they would just defend their argument.

The presup caller exemplifies why nobody outside their discord servers takes presups seriously: unevidenced declarations that their assessment of an alleged revelation is absolutely perfect, the accusation that anyone not in their little gang is a liar, all delivered with practiced, performative smugness, presumably for an audience of other smug little sophomores. Macgruber was more of a joke than his namesake character.

What you said is equally sound and valid! The fact that his arguments all basically boiled down to "If we assume I'm right, then I'm right," and he was utterly incapable of demonstrating he was right, he merely asserted it, then I have to wonder if that "swish" noise he made was actually him repeating the sound of the wind blowing in the gap between his ears. If you assume the conclusion is true within the premise of your argument (i.e. beg the question), then you can "prove" anything, including mutually exclusive things, which only demonstrates how utterly worthless those types of arguments are at demonstrating anything about reality. Basically, if you're claiming that, in order to prove God is real, you must first _assume_ that God is real, then all you're really saying is that there's no logically valid way to demonstrate that God is real. TL;DR: Presuppositional apologetics = arguments by people who've decided to use a methodology which is inherently invalid.

What Matt described regarding laying on the trampoline and seeing the moon move around is a phenomenon of the eyes called autokinesis. When looking at a point of light (the moon's a pretty big point but still counts) with no other fixed positional reference to compare it to, the eyes will very slowly start to drift without even knowing it giving the illusion that the point of light is moving. It's even more pronounced when looking at stars or a planet. It's something they teach about in aviation as a hazardous aeromedical factor because while flying at night over a dark area with no lights below (water, wilderness, etc.), if the pilot is focusing on a distant point of light for navigation, autokinesis can make the illusion that the point of light is moving, therefore the illusion that the attitude of the airplane is changing, resulting in the pilot changing pitch, bank, or yaw/course to get the light back in position when it fact it never moved. You can do it too! Just go outside on a starry night and sit there motionless while staring at a star or a distant yard light. After a few seconds it will look like it's very slowly and smoothly drifting around.

Years ago I asked a Catholic in youtube comments if they actually thought the wine and crackers actually turned into the blood and flesh of Jesus. They said, "Of course not." I then explained that that is what Catholics believe. She left and came back to explain to me that the "substance" changes, but it cannot be detected in any way (as if I didn't already know this is what Catholics believe--she didn't even know this). On another occasion, I had a Muslim tell me that they believe Jesus died and resurrected. I explained to them that no, Muslims don't believe Jesus died and resurrected. This person argued with me briefly until I quoted, "And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain." When I have irreconcilable conflicts with friends and relatives, I just tell them - "I am only interested in discussing common ground and comprise" whenever they try to preach, I just repeat my refusal to debate.

I keep a list of some of the nasty passages in the bible and just ask them to go read those and then come back and tell me why they think their gods actions were justifiable. Most of the time they have never even heard of those passages, which goes to show I know more than they do of their own religion. (slavery, offering daughters for rape, selling daughters into slavery, daughters getting their dad drunk and then raping him to get pregnant, the flood that killed millions of people including babies and pregnant women). No atheist can even start to provide a RATIONAL/POSSIBLE, step-by-step atheist explanation for reality. Could you be more lost & clueless? Oh btw, The God of the Bible is the one true God and Jesus is the only one God the Father has ever raised from the dead. There can only be one infinite being: 1. An infinite being lacks nothing. 2. For 2 beings to differ, one has to lack something the other has. 3. A being that lacks something, is not infinite. 4. Therefore, there can only be one infinite being. 5. An ultimate being has no potential, because the potential is maxed out. Therefore, it’s a contradiction to say there can or should be more than one infinite being. That would erroneously state that a finite being is not maxed out potential and another one is needed to reach full potential. 6. To say this infinite being is the Christian G0D, we go into the historical evidence of Jesus and his Word. It is patently obvious there can only be one supernatural first cause/prime mover/God. It's also worth noting that throughout the middle ages it was widely believed "within the religious community" that life emerged from non-life on an ongoing basis -- that dust mites emerged from dust, that mice emerged from rotting rags and so on. The idea of "life from non-life" was simply believed to be the way in which the Almighty arranged the natural order -- it was generally believed to be something that happened all the time. That was an idea that wasn't overthrown until the scientific revolution -- so strange to now see the way theists cling to this modern scientific idea as if it embodies some long-standing foundational religious principle -- when, of course, it's nothing of the kind.
@goranmilic4422 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Christian can say - if there is God, any magical thing can happen, but if there is no God, then magical thing can't happen. That is something both atheists and Christians agree. So Christian can ask - if there is no God, then life can't magically appear, so how did life start? Only problem with Christians is that they don't understand magic isn't needed for life to start.
@prodprod2 жыл бұрын
@@goranmilic442 What you say is true, in a sense -- and at a certain point in history, Christians genuinely believed that, indeed, "everything was a miracle. Everything was "magic." The sun rises -- it's a miracle. You let go of an apple and it falls -- it's a miracle. Wheat grows from a wheat stalk rather than corn -- it's a miracle. Every single things that happens or that fails to happen occurs because of the direct conscious hand of God. Period. But over time, theists began to embrace the notion of a sort of "pseudo-natural" cosmos. That is, somewhere after all those miracles at the beginning, God just sort of "wound up" the universe like a great big clock and left it to run on its own -- so that wheat grows, and apples fall and the stars and planets move -- automatically, without needing God's personal and continual miraculous, on-going intervention -- in much the same way that we had started to devise machines that pretty much ran "on their own" without our having to continually operate them. God's miracles were only needed in order to intervene in the otherwise automatic operation of the cosmos. And, in fact, that's pretty much even what fundamentalists believe today -- the universe was set up like a great big automatic machine that can run on it's own -- and the Almighty only intervenes when something special is required. That notion displaced an earlier view, which was pretty much universally held, which is that God's "on-going" hand was required for everything to keep moving. That is, if God blinked, or looked away, the whole cosmos would simply tumble into nothingness. So it's not simply that God could, in principle, bring about on-going abiogenesis, -- obviously, theists believe that God could do anything -- it's really a very different view of God's relationship to the cosmos - one on which he has created a universe that requires "on-going" creation -- he keeps plants growing, keeps creating life, keeps the stars and planets moving, etc. -- and the other in which he started things going, set it on automatic, and only rarely intervenes miraculously, on special occasions -- which is the view that theists hold now.

Things happening and the rationalizations about what those things could have been are different from each other. We don't know what caused those things to happen. Could it have been a demon? I guess. Could it have been his brother stomping around, knocking over the lamp and the ashtray rolled to the other side of the room? Then he lied about doing it, maybe because he didn't want to get in trouble for breaking the lamp. You bet. Which explanation seems more likely? Not saying it _was_ the brother. It could have been the stepfather, screwing with them. Could have been a burglar that heard them and then ran off. It could have been any number of things unexamined. Anyone not familiar with the term could call water hammer "banging pipes." Water hammer could also explain the "growling" in Erik's story. Today we have money, work, prestige, power, entertainment and a myriad of other 'highly important and transformative' necessities - all to bring us happiness (they don't) and fulfilled lives (they don't). Jesus, God in flesh, came to bring us true freedom and to fulfill our created purpose - to be holy and blameless before Him. Well, if you were able to provide the definitive proof of God that no one else has been able to for so long AND be able to put in a "swish" at the end, you would be arrogant as well! Don't you remember Einstein and his immortal, "E equals MC squared, biatchhheesss! Swish!"

The more I hear Pre-Sups, the more I'm convinced they gravitate to that doctrine purely for the _"Gotcha, Bitch!"_ while insisting they're doing it purely out of love, lol.

Lol. First time tuning in in years and half expected Matt to be more chill now. Boy was I wrong.

The show is no longer about normalizing Atheists, or de stigmatizing Atheism. It’s about dunking on religious people and feeling superior afterward. Read the comments of any AE video and you will see what I mean. I’m an Atheist and follow the show, but I worry that it actually hurts our cause more than helping it advance.

Breath isn't alive, clay isn't alive. Isn't the Adam story kinda abiogenesis? 🤔

@@blarglemantheskeptic even if God was alive, that doesn't make breath alive. His breathe wouldn't be alive. His farts wouldn't be alive, right?
