I just saw them in LA and Pantera basically skips over this song. They have a recording of this with Dimebag Darrell & Vinny Paul on the video screen as a tribute to them, but they cut the song short. My guess is Phil can no longer hit the high notes.

You can of course do them safely i put will ramos as an example cuz he is one of the few that does it perfectly and takes care of his voice, its just that most normal singers get taught that doing that its not possible just because it is not a very explored area in the clean singing world say classical, theatre, soul, popish or any clean singing style

Pantera saved metal. When metal degraded to mostly poppy hair bands and kids were moving to grunge, Pantera pulled people back into metal. Sincerely, their influence on the genre cannot be underrated.

you're carefully glossing over the fact that pantera were a hair metal band for 10 years before phil came around and told them to just copy what Louisiana bands were doing
@LouisGiliberto
@LouisGiliberto 11 ай бұрын
@@RafaelCDet I'm not glossing over anything. If they had stayed a hair band they wouldn't nearly be as successful, and we wouldn't have a lot of the sound we have today. The fact they became the Pantera we know from Cowboys from Hell is what saved metal. They were like St. Vinnie Paul on the Road to Damascus. Their eyes were opened and they became the apostles to non-poppy metal.

Except that Death Metal existed before Pantera went from femboy metal to heavy.
@LouisGiliberto
@LouisGiliberto 2 ай бұрын
@@Nightwalk444 Sure, but death metal was very niche back then. I was listening to it, but I know most people weren't. Pantera were more mainstream metal like NWOBHM. Cowboys from Hell came out in 1990, which was only a few years after Scream Bloody Gore by Death. Pantera wasn't the only heavy band during that time, I can name a ton starting with Sepultura, Megadeth, Slayer, etc. But Pantera were the ones that brought people back into the genre, at least IMO. Metallica was off writing pop songs and we were flooded with hair and glam metal which was really pop with guys wearing lipstick.

For me and for most people who play guitar, Dime is the best of all time, and for some he isnt, but he 100% changed the way you play. This is an amazing song, one of my favourites... but wow, I've never actually watched the music video before (never particularly into music videos, not seen many of my favourite bands'/songs' music videos), and it's actually kind of shocking to hear that the ENTIRE intro section has been cut. I guess it's to be expected with the state of music TV channels, but what a shame, because the intro to this song is *beautiful*. Do yourself a favour, Charis, and listen to the audio track for the song in your own time (should be 7mins & a couple seconds or so if it's not cut).
