I am a theatrical romantic and the best dress for me is what is called a wiggle dress. Usually with a sweetheart bust or lace detail on the edges. Also mermaid hem dress, ruffle hem dress. I like when it ends at the knee or just above. My waist is quite high and I need the cinch at waist very much.

Such great content! I love how straight to the point and practical those videos are. And I must say, as a TR everything you're saying is so true. Glad to have all my knowlage in one place so I don't waste time on things that are just not for my body. (Low key hoping for the same series for winter, which is the worst season for TR and R).

I can do the trumpet skirt, a ruffle at the end or the asymmetrical ruffle wrap style but the tiered prarie type ones, I feel, are more accommodating to the width of the romantic. It definitely overwhelms/competes with my narrow vertical thing and they seem to be all over the shops.
@Kris7245
@Kris7245 Жыл бұрын
As a romantic I feel they are made for people with vertical! Because the tiers create wide boxy look like horizontal wide stripes, and it looks horrible on curves! It comes across looking like color blocking in a sense, like each tier is a separate box, so to me they look very geometric. Nothing “flows” or drapes.

Many thanks for all your videos. I have been rewatching videos then going back to my Burda collection to start selecting all the patterns that suit my body type. Hope to start sewing a wardrobe that suits me, not just follows trends. Your pictures of casual, everyday looks especially useful as I walk, take public transport and work in a lab where (sadly) I can’t use too many lux shiny fabrics as daily look. When I make clothing that follows your suggestions I get such compliments vs cool/edgy - lessons learned! Accept my body type. Also I’ve learned saves me hours in fitting, pattern adjustments, those boxy, tailored geometries to my everywhere curves! Sticking to sewing TR styles!

Hi! I have enjoyed your videos for a few years now. Thank you for all of your hard work! I have a video series suggestion. Could you do body types for older women who have put on some weight? Just normal people? It is very difficult for some of us to recognize or type when looking at young, thin celebrities. Maybe do a video where you ask for picture submissions, and make requirements like plain background, full body, how you want the poses, what you want them to wear. Maybe ask for multiple submissions, like one in black tights and top. If you require that they know their kibbe type, perhaps they can also show a picture where they wear an outfit that follows kibbe guidelines. If you get enough submissions, maybe there will be enough for a video per body type.

This is amazingly accurate and detailed! I've been practicing to analyze my clothes when I go shopping and I ALWAYS try to find whatever is "narrower". I used to mistake this as dressing as a dramatic, with all all sharp and straight lines, but it would look so severe on me ( even tho I have some dramatic essence). I noticed that if I wear a med knit that is longer but fits me nicely ( the shoulders and sleeves sit nicely, not slouched at all) then it can give me a very nice "oversized" look, especially if the fabric is ribbed, even if it is not technically oversized at all. Maybe the natural essence helps to pull off these sort of details?.

@alyart Thank you for your videos! You have no idea how much you've helped me stop feeling bad about how I look compared to others. I always wanted to look a certain way, and dress a certain way, but just intuitively know it doesn't look good on me without knowing why. I have a question, I'm from South East Asia, and generally the average height is lower compared to the europeans. I wonder if that means we are mostly going to be skewed towards a certain body types? Or do we look at the proportion and vertical lines relative to the general population of the place? For example, we just have a shorter version of dramatic here, if that makes any sense.

I have a pair of wide leg, stiff 100% cotton trousers and they look nice long and draped on my shoes but when i took them up temporarily they looked to wide because the widest point is on the bottom which is greatly reduced when theyre long and draped . Maybe if the fabric was a lighter material like linen or satin they may look good being shorter because they would flow and fold.

Can you do this for theatrical romantics that don't dress normally, and have taste like goth, punk, alt, metalhead, grunge, emo, or any alternative styles? because not all of us have sweet, delicate, girly taste
@apollofateh324
@apollofateh324 Жыл бұрын
I feel that, I think you can just take the general principles and apply them to whatever style you're looking for tho. Ex: I have a cropped black shirt with transparent flared sleeves, but it's super slim fitting on the torso, so it still has waist emphasis + is cropped at the hip bones. I pair it with black cargo shorts, which are also tight at the waist, but flare out a little also. So, I still look "hourglass" because of the slim waist + contrast flaring of the shirt and shorts, but I can make it look punk with boots, fine (not chunky) accessories, and makeup. Basically as long as you have the waist and smaller accessories, you're good.

Ha Im retired now in a tropical country An tigua, Guatemala 5,000ft elevation so a more temperate climate than on the coast it never freezes and houses dont have central heart just fireplaces for Dec and Jan. As a theatrical romantic I have a wonderful belt collection...it is my favorite accessory because it emphases my waist....usually they are medium to wide. Everything is about my waist because I am a small hourglass. And she is so right about pants length. I cannot wear loose oversize blazers either. Right now I am collecting vintage fitted blazers shortish ones because fashion is dictating everyone dump theirs...yeah for ME. I am stocking up on the best quality ones I can find Ralph Lauren etc....I found several at vintage stores and even Goodwill in the USA on vacation this summer. I also like showing my forearm, these style blazers are hugely out of style, but I dont care I wear what looks best on my body. I never want to look like a linebacker or a grandpa. The only thing I cant do is wear delicate or thin highheel shoes...my Spanish colonial World Heritage town has very uneven cobblestones.

Selina Gomez's off-shoulder neckline seems to also drag her down and make her appear bigger/wider than she actually is. Is this just because she gained a bit of weight or are off-shoulder looks not good for romantics in general? I haven't found any info on that so far.
@evolili4245
@evolili4245 Жыл бұрын
Not sure if there is official info, but I found the same happens to me! I think it might be because of 1. the wide horizontal line it creates (not good for TR, goes against the narrowness) and 2. for all types with no strong vertical, especially petite ones, visual weight that moves "downwards" (the fabric not sitting on the shoulders. But also noticed that for skirts that are bulky on the lower half of the legs) can quickly drag them down
@morro8785
@morro8785 Жыл бұрын
@@evolili4245 You made some excellent points! Thank you. That makes a lot of sense. I'm still not entirely sure if I'm a pure romantic or a TR, but I have the same problem with off-shoulder tops etc. Only exception is when it's a boat neckline, that actually looks lovely and super feminine on me despite the horizontal emphasis, but as soon as the fabric drops off the shoulder it's over... 🙈😂 (but I also gained some weight, so I'm not sure if that exaggerates the problem even further)

@@morro8785 On the topic of shoulder. I found a definitive shoulder is of the utmost important. Any reglan, kimono style sleeves give illusion like I'm several pounds heavier. So slightly sharper shoulder like they were trendy in 2010s looks incredible on TR. It's like shoulders are the focal points they gather the figure and make it trim.

I thought waist definition and waist emphasis is something different like theatrical romantics don't look good in contrast so breaking the outfit with a belt does emphasis is but also breaks it and hidew the natural curve of the waist I think waist definition is just that the outfit is showing the natural waist line

I struggle to understand my body type because I am built like. Theatrical Romantic but I don’t have thin sharp hands or feet . I’m like a soft natural but I don’t have width across my frame in the upper body. I have width on my hip bones which can make my waist look very small. However when I’m overweight I look thicker like a soft natural. I have small hands and feet but they look stronger. My friend is Korean and she has thin fingers on small hands and smaller feet. My feet are size 8 with width but I have somewhat blunt bones with flesh but a very small waist. Am I Soft Natural or am I a slightly stronger Theatrical Romantic ? It’s so confusing! When I was introduced to this theory I immediately thought I was romantic because my obvious hourglass torso but I have sharper collar bones and slightly angular strong shoulders . But they aren’t wide. Just slightly sharp and not sloped . So what am I? Theatrical romantic on top and romantic on my bottom?

Many R's and TR's DO NOT LOOK GOOD in trousers ending around their ankles, because it makes their legs look even shorter-and they already have short limbs. It distorts the proportions and there are many pics of Beyonce or Nicole showing how this length is our enemy. And it is even worse when the legs of the trousers are wider.

And isn’t a Theatrical Romantic simply a Romantic who is very thin and lean? Being very slim and lean as a romantic makes the waist very wasp-ish and sharp. And even the ankles become very delicate looking and collar bones become sharper giving a less rounded look. Please someone clarify. It’s driving me crazy. A Romantic who is skinny doesn’t she become Theatrical Romantic when she a bit under weight?

No. You’re not taking things like nose shape or hair texture into account.

Romantics will always be wider in bone structure and rounder all over with almost no sharpness even at low weights,tr's are gonna also be rounded but they have petite which makes them narrow looking and sharper at some points even when "over weight"

Not sure if I am a romantic or just a gamine with lipodema . 😂

The difference between those two can be really misleading but the R family will always be rounded ALL over,while gamines will still have lean and square looking features :)

I have problems being a fat theatrical romantic. Sigh. At least I still have my waist...

I still don't believe Selena Gomez is a Theatrical Romantic. Her face may be soft and rounded, but I find that to be the case for many flamboyant naturals (which is what I think her type actually is). Lily Cole is a clear example of a supermodel with a strong vertical line and width in her body, but a quite childlike, round face. I see a good number of Flamboyant naturals with 'baby faces' like this. The same is true for Selena Gomez, as she has a stronger looking body frame , but a smaller head in contrast to it. Theatrical Romantics are the reverse.

Flamboyant naturals are frame dominant. Selena is clearly curve dominant, meaning her clothes need to accommodate for her softness/curve before her bones/frame. In other words she has double curve and is automatically one of the softer types, flamboyant naturals don't have this level of softness even when they have curve and roundness in their face and body.
