What a brilliant review, you cover aspects which most don't and we the shopper benefit greatly from your knowledge and insight, I can't think of another reviewer who does this and in such detail too, it's probably why I like and have so much from Graham Slee, I can't think of anything he/they make which doesn't have an external power supply and you have shown time and again just how good those items are, it also helps keep the cost down too. Always more than just a review :)

Nice. You also used this as a pre-amp. It's my favor use of this little beast. Topping DX7 Pro with BA V6 Classic opamps > Magni Unity > Muzishare X7. I love this setup. Really clean, distinctive, the bass and midrange remain well exposed and the treble doesn't spike. A very live experience.

you should get the Magni and Modi Stack, and consider the EQ addition of the Loki mini. That creates a wonderful combination that was designed to work together and they are all the same look and you dont have some huge box and then a little box on top, or some digital new age look next to the Magni's analog look. I have the 'Schitt Stack' and i couldnt be happier. Especially for the price. Good review though mate.

The Unison USB card shown in this video is just a USB interface designed for Schiit's Bifrost and Yggdrasil dacs. This card has transformers for full electromagnetic and electrostatic isolation while the cheaper version found in the Modi and Modius do not. The dac card in the Magni Unity contains a simplified Unison interface and the ESS ES9018 dac chip. Not as good as the separate Modi dac but a quick solution for an all-in-one interface.

Purchased one with the DAC for the office. Really, I don't need anything else. Also, it's a generous 3-year warranty for this little beast. It's Magni 5, damn it. 😅

I'm afraid I'll burn in hifi-hell... but I really would be interested, to see a comparison of such an entry-level DAC/amp to a decent internal PC-soundcard... E.g. the SoundBlaster AE-7 also uses the ESS 9018 and some usable headphone-amp. I know the usual arguments of the interior of a PC-case being a challenging environment.. but some grounded shielding should keep most frequencies away from critical parts... and the argument of dirty-power - I know CPU and GPU switch power-demands extremely within fractions of ms ... but I also know, what immense effort modern PC-powersupplies and motherboards undertake to solve this (from multiple separated power-rails to layers of isolation and totally oversized power-stages). An external DAC with a simple powersupply and on-desk smartphone nearby probably also has to cope with a not much easier environment. My expectation would be, that there is not much difference until you invest into a DAC/amp one level up in the 400$ range... but that is just a theretical guess - I'm curious to be proven wrong 🤔

New to the world of headphone amps and such. I was wondering in your upgrade mention, getting interconnects. I was wondering do you have recommendations on that, and is that essentially cables to link the devices together?
