First time was Ursaring in gen 2, fainted it cus I needed the exp for Red, then saw a regular one, caught that one, then realized my mistake when I suddenly encountered 5 "shiny" ursarings in a row(and wasted 5 ultra balls) and regretted it ever since. Second one was a druddigon, which I stored in a box once I caught it, because its a pretty ugly shiny. Its one of the very few, non garantueed, shinies I own. I am just glad that you cant transfer OG gen 2 pokemon through gen 3 and onward, because at least then it doesnt matter that I defeated my very first shiny.

I remember encountering a shiny golbat just outside silver cave in crystal, while only having 1 great ball. I took a chance with it and caught it by pure luck. In emerald i encountered a shiny ralts as soon as i got pokeballs and ended up catching it as well

a similar event happened to me too. On the 2nd of September I was soft resetting starters in Pokémon SoulSilver and I got a shiny Cyndaquil after only 483 soft resets. Then the very next day on the 3rd of September I had started my SoulSilver journey and literally a single step after I had just been given my first 5 pokeballs from Lyra, I encountered a shiny Pidgey by pure luck and caught it. Then the very next day after that on the 4th of September I was playing FireRed and encountered a shiny Rattata in Viridian Forest by pure luck and I had only a single pokeball left and I managed to catch it.

Another good one-shiny locks weren't introduced in Black and White. Traded Pokemon and non Shiny mystery gifts have always been locked, as have weird quirks like Ranger Manaphy, but only in the game that receives it. And another one: In official material, the word "Shiny" is capitalized, even though it's an adjective, but technically in this case a name for a category of Pokemon.

Fun fact: over the years I've played pokemon, I've found countless random shines, about 15 or 20 of them. Ironically, every one of these shinies have come from gen 2-5; I have never found a random gen 6, 7 or 8 shiny. To add to the list of guaranteed shinies in the games that have released since this video: In Legends Arceus there's a side quest that lets you catch a free shiny Ponyta, in the Teal Mask DLC of Scarlet and Violet if you win all difficulties in Ogre Oustin' you get a shiny Munchlax, and in the Indigo Disk DLC a character trades you a shiny Blitzle if you win a battle against them in the post game

I feel marshadow is actually a little darker in its shiny I also don’t think I’ve ever come across my own shiny, I’ve received a few from a no-lif-... an expert friend of mine, cause he had extras and knew I’d spent days in the same spot trying for it. I’ve even had the shiny charm and done all the extra research to make sure my odds were the best every time I’ve tried.

Magearna & Castform's variants have shinies now. Magearna's is entirely metallic, Catform's variants basically have more saturated color pallets. I think that's new to gen 8 (at least in Home)

Here's another: Smeargle actually swapped it's normal and shiny colors after... gen 2 I believe? Also I did the cute charm glitch in gen 4 and the double shiny crash glitch actually became a surprisingly huge pain. Whenever I had a partner I would have to save religiously to avoid it.

I used to shiny collect using egg hatching, think the worst odds (over about 40 ish pokemon) was 560 (roughly). most eggs would hatch shiny after on average about 200/300. When I stopped playing I did a big give away and people could pick which of my shiny mons they wanted 😂 felt good to help people get some of their favourite pokemon shiny forms
