It also doesn't have anything to do with being ambidextrous or anything, at least in the case of michael (I only played XD) he uses his left hand because that's where he wears the snag machine that lets him to catch other people's pokemon. Using that on wild pokemon is totally pointless so he uses his other hand.

In Masters EX, Hilbert reunites with N and says that he's been looking for him because N's departure was so sudden that he didn't have the chance to say goodbye. Dawn's team is like that because all of her teams must have a Grass/Fire/Water trio, so they sacrificed Pachirisu to make that happen.

Other fun facts about these characters: * Red's title screen and profile front sprites from _Pokémon Red and Green_ correspond to his earlier _Capsule Monsters_ artwork instead of his final Generation I artwork. The title screen sprite was updated for _Pokémon Blue_ but the profile front sprite wasn't. In _Pokémon Yellow,_ he lacks a title screen sprite but his front sprite was updated to match his official artwork, and possibly in part to match Ash Ketchum, hsince the frontal section of his hat has the same division in the middle as Ash's hat from the original series. * Leaf's was actually designed for the cover of _Pokémon Red and Green's_ official strategy guide, not for the games themselves. He wanted to portray a trio of Trainers facing off against each other, hence designed the female character for the cover. The female character was adapted into Leaf and later Green, though it should be noted Sugimori took the unnamed female character into consideration when he was designing the former. He also mentioned that the _FireRed and LeafGreen_ female protagonist did not have a name at the time of his writing, in November 2012. * On the "Area" map on the Pokédex in _HeartGold and SoulSilver,_ Ethan's headshot sprite shows his hat from _Gold and Silver._ Also Ethan actually did face off against Ash in the beginning of _Zoroark: Master of Illusions,_ where he uses a Donphan. * Kris actually coexists with Lyra in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ and has a Feraligatr, a Jolteon, and a Suicune (though it is clarified that the latter is not the one she encountered in Johto). * According to Pokégear calls, along with her Marill, Lyra owns a Tauros, a Bulbasaur, a Porygon, and a Tangela. Like Kris she owns several other Pokémon in _Masters EX,_ including a Jigglypuff, a Vaporeon, a Phanpy, and a Celebi. * Pre-release media for _Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire_ suggests that Brendan and May were going to receive new names for the remake, being Orlando and Anna in English and Omega and Alpha in Japanese. * While Lucas is shown to own an Infernape in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ you can't actually obtain a sync pair of the two. Instead, he instead uses a Dialga and a Flareon. However, this creates an inconsistency, as Dawn and Barry are shown with a Torterra and an Empoleon, and since Lucas' appearance in the game is based on his NPC appearance, he and Barry should technically have swapped first partners. * Continuing on from the video's fact, if they player chose Piplup, Dawn’s team consists of Pokémon Ash and Paul used throughout the Diamond and Pearl anime except for her Gorebyss. Specifically, Paul also owns a Honchkrow and Froslass while Ash owns a Sceptile, Infernape (which was originally Paul’s as a Chimchar) and owned Dawn's Ambipom when it was an Aipom. If the player chooses Chimchar Dawn's entire team will consist of Pokémon used by a major trainer in the Diamond and Pearl anime. Namely, Torterra is owned by both Ash and Paul, with Ash also owning a Mr. Mime, Brock has a Crobat, Blastoise and Arcanine are both owned by Gary Oak, and Conway has a Lickilicky. * According to game scenario author Toshinobu Matsumiya, Hilda and Hilbert were initially visualized to be at the age of 16, which would make them the oldest main series protagonists. In addition, they were planned to be battled at the Pokémon World Tournament. * Both Nate and Rosa have interesting trivia related to _Pokémon Masters EX._ First off, Nate is the only protagonist in the game to not own a first partner Pokémon. Secondly, Rosa is not only the first trainer the player recruits in the game with her Snivy (that evolves), Serperior, but she also has a Delibird, Sky Forme Shaymin, Dewott, and Meloetta. * Calem and Serena can reach the rank of Grand Duke/Duchess in the Battle Chateau by defeating most of the trainers there. Notably, while Serena is the only other character with this trainer class besides Diantha, having Calem reach the rank is the only time the Trainer class Grand Duke appears in-game. * Remember how the player character in _Sun and Moon_ often has a blank expression regardless of the situation? _Pokémon Masters EX_ poked fun at this by revealing that Elio and Selene actually do that because they're taking time to think about what's going on around them. Also, promotional videos and trailers for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon refer to them as Ray and Ailey, which would honestly kinda lean into the multiverse angle those games had. * In an event in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ both Chase and Elaine claim they helped the other one out in battles while in Kanto, referencing to the co-op feature from _Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!_ * During a scene where the player, along with Sonia and Hop, are at Bob's Your Uncle at Circhester City, if the player picks the gag response to Sonia's question about the tapestry there, Victor/Gloria will actually speak and say "Exactly! Bob, with his brilliant smile must be part of the legend!", making Sonia react in disbelief. This makes it the only time Victor and Gloria can directly speak in the main series games. * Rei and Akari appear in the present day in _Pokémon Masters EX,_ having arrived on Pasio by traveling through a space-time rift, where the former also mentions that present-day Pasio feels familiar to him, but he doesn't think this is the world he was originally from. It has also been pointed out by multiple characters in the game, about the similarities between them and Lucas and Dawn. * Speaking of appearances, Florian is shown with black hair in concept art, though his key artwork depicts him with brown hair. Despite this, the promotional poster for the Teal Mask depicts Florian with black hair. Juliana also wears the summer uniform of Naranja/Uva Academy in the regular artwork, the spring uniform of Blueberry Academy in the regular artwork of The Indigo Disk, and the autumn and summer uniforms of Blueberry Academy in the art for the BB League and the final art for The Indigo Disk, respectively. * Wes is around 17 years old, and about 5'04" to 5'07 in height. * Michael is about 4'07". In addition, he was originally planned to start with a level 26 Jolteon and level 30 Vaporeon, and is shown a level 40 Gardevoir and Parasect in the game's demo. * There are some actually interesting facts regarding Nate and Cyndy, being that all Nate's Pokémon hold a plate that boosts their coverage move, meanwhile Cyndy is the only protagonist to start with a final three-stage evolution, being her Pidgeot. *Forgotten in this video are Scottie and Bettie, the protagonists of _Pokémon Masters EX._ While they start with Pikachu, they can obtain a Regirock, Cobalion, Mesprit, Registeel, and Alcremie, as well as various Pokémon hatched from Eggs. However, alongside their Pikachu in the final battle against their rival Paulo, they use their Torchic, which they received from a Rising Star named Stella after helping her find her own Torchic, and Solgaleo, which the player befriended after battling it multiple times atop a mountain in Pasio.

As an example of his hatred towards TFS, during (I think) the Kai version of the Buu Saga, Funimation had the TFS gang included as the VAs for actors in a stage play/gag recap of the Cell Saga. I didn't know those facts about Calem and Serena, Serena's name originally being Yvonne was actually adapted into Adventures interestingly enough. We never learn X (Calem's counterpart)'s full name, so I guess we could assume it's Xavier. I actually assumed his full name would be revealed at some point when I was reading the manga, because they revealed Yvonne really early on but didn't reveal X's. This is a really cool video, found it weird that Adventures wasn't brought up especially since Violet's in the thumbnail though

Green was not supposed to appear in the Gen I games at all: Sugimori only designed her because he wanted to draw a trio of trainers facing each other. This character was later added to the manga as Squirtle's trainer, and when the remakes were created, Sugimri used her appearance to design Leaf.

Just to clear something up. I believe in Let’s Go the Digital Pokédex hadn’t been made yet since we know there are two timelines with and without Megas and we’ve only seen the Mega timeline Red and Blue when they’re older. Just two small corrections 1) I'm greek, and while it's entire likely Elio and Selene are named after the Greek Gods Helios (Ήλιος) and Selene (Σελήνη), I think it's also worth noting that Ήλιος is the literal word we use for Sun, same goes for Σελήνη and the moon. 2) The Scarlet and Violet protagonists do have genders, despite the fact that you can make them look near identical. At some points in the game, characters reder to you in the third person, and they do use he/him or she/her depending on your original choice

Wes is also the oldest Pokemon Protagonist if I recall correctly. Unlike the other protagonists who are around 10-12, Wes is 17 years old at the start of his game as is Rui, his companion making them the oldest Protagonists in a Pokemon game.

The ages of the protagonists vary wildly in the main line games. Not counting Let's Go because I don't think we know Chase's and Elaine's age, Red and Leaf were the youngest at 11. All the others were 12 at minimum and 16 at the maximum.

When I played SV with my mom we did the games side by side and completed the gyms together and scrolled through dialogue together, reading out loud. All the dialogue referred to me with He and my mom with She and so forth. The statement might be more that the characters never called me a boy or my mom a girl and never included gender specific dialogue rather than the pronouns, though this feels like reaching.

While scarlet and violet aren’t gender specific like other protagonists (to be more inclusive) it is important to know that if you pick anyone from the top 4 you will be referred to with he/him, and anyone from the bottom 4 will be referred by she/her, which they can’t really do anything besides having a screen that says “what would you like to be referred by?”

Scarlett and Violet definitely does make references to your gender through NPC's choice of pronouns to refer to you. You mention suspecting this will be the direction for the future of the series and I reckon you're right. SV had the best face and hair customization we've seen to date, so I honestly expect in the future we won't even pick a base trainer to customise but instead have a fully customisable protagonist. However one thing I despised about SV was the fact that they wear the same clothes. Not that that is a bad thing, it would be fantastic for all clothing to be shared, except Gamefreak chose to achieve this by having us only choice between 4 school uniforms for the entire game until DLC, and all of them looked terrible imo. I mean hell, if you're trying to allow expression of gender, why is there no skirt or dress uniform for the cis girls? Let alone for the boys who would choose to wear it too, which feels like it should've been the whole point of the change to gender in those games. If we continue neutrality with gender, I expect to have the full range of clothing choices offered in Gen's 6, 7 and 8 available to anyone.

I believe there are points where they refer to the the SV protags by gender. But those moments are very sparse and they barely matter anyway. It’s just fun that gender barely matters for playable characters especially for customization

In Traditional Chinese, the translator decided to use gendered second-person pronoun (你 for Florian, 妳 for Juliana) so it is basically everywhere

Clavell will refer to you by a gendered title sometimes but I just ignore that.

You should be allowed to select your pronouns in the newer games. Also, if they are going to promote gender equality, then they should allow males to wear 'stereotypically feminine' clothing, and vice versa, instead of having near zero outfit customisation.

Lyra didn't really replace Kris, she was created from scratch to be the female protagonist for the remakes because the originals didn't have one, the gear icon that resembled Kris was likely a placeholder Continuing the narrative that Kris was replaced just creates undeserved hatred towards Lyra from people with a misguided sense of justice

My Juliana is nonbinary because I am but I wish Clavell had a neutral form of address for me. I wonder what it would be. Ser? Ethan was a villain on Alan Becker's channel, meaning that the Ethan that battled The Second Coming (the Orange Stick figure with a hollowed-out head) was a possible version of Alan Becker PLAYING as Ethan, and the Ethan in the Pokemon Adventures manga was called Gold, not Ethan. Also, Gold in the manga, raised his Togepi by accident, as a DELINQUENT!
