Have just seen this video, and would like to say a big thank you! As one of you earlier commenters explained, it is extremely difficult to find good descriptive video on Australian weeds and how and when to treat them. The thumbnail images from the herbicide companies are virtually useless. I appreciate the effort you put into all your videos, that are a real help. Thanks!

Brake cleaner works brilliantly as a spot killer on broadleaved weeds. Super quick too without damaging the surrounding lawn

@@theaussielawn cheers mate. I learnt that one at my bike mechanic's workshop. I got so sick of looking at his weeds in the nature strip. Just a little squirt and they turn purple within an hour or two. Hey you've given me an idea! I'll try iron filings from his lathe next time.

@@theaussielawn The idea to use iron filings to kill the weeds instead of brake cleaner. From the internet..... ron oxidation causes plant necrosis which in turn kills the weed (First the weed will dry up, then turn black and affected leaf tissue dies within hours of application.) and no damage occurs to the desired turf other than perhaps a darker green color.

Propyzamide is reasonably effective on poa annua if its not too far along (and you're not growing cool season turf in AU lol)

Excellent idea of weeds in warm season grass Brenton. Especially for us Queenslanders, is there anything but crow bar, that will kill crow's foot grass ? Probably the hardest thing to kill up here. I have just had some randomly start appearing in my lawn, in the last 2 to 3 weeks.

If you can just dig it as you see it. if you have a green couch lawn you can use a DSMA product. But yes it is a tough one to control

Awesome video, I can identify some of those at my place. There is one product I’m aware of that will kill onion grass and onion weed. It is called Destiny by bayer, and it appears to be a very good all rounder herbicide. I haven’t tried it at my place as I can’t justify the price tag. From memory the cheapest I have seen it is $650 per 250g!

I’ve just looked up the pro force duke herbicide, and it appears to have the same active constituent as Destiny, however you can buy it in smaller quantities. $210 for 100g, awesome value and all I need for my residential block. Going to give it a go, sure glad I watched your video, cheers.

Great video, Very informative. Are you able to demo different weed killers? I'm using Bow and Arrow and waiting for things to die off just surprised how long it takes to die off. Maybe some basics with applying weed killers and the spray rate of application, My mix is possibly to weak coming out of my Solo backpack sprayer. But I'll be patient, I'll give it another 6 weeks before applying more....

@@wilkothewiz hmm it can depend case by case, But once the chemical starts effecting the target weed no amount of fertiliser is going to bring it back if you follow me. Generally speaking I cant see why you couldn't really start feeding a day or two after spraying

Weeds serve a valuable service. Weeds hold soil from eroding. Weeds grow fast unlike you nice lawn grass. Many weeds only grow in nutrient por soil. When they die they return nutrients to the soil weeds are your DIY soil tester. They can tell you what your soil is lacking in. So, before you spray the weeds consider what weed it is. Its death may well help you to know what fertiliser your lawn needs. The healthier your lawn is the less ‘weeds’ will be in your lawn.

Hey mate, Any of the products I listed in this vid will do the trick, But oxalis is a persistent bugger, you will need to keep on it every couple of weeks for but you will win the battle with time and patience

Nice video mate. That Onion Grass is a pest!!! When I first got here I put some latex gloves on and dipped my fingers in glyphosate, then teased the leaf. The glyphosate started to dissolve the gloves....beer o'clock haha Bet your keen for some warmth to get the grass competing again!

Hey mate hows things? You are right about that mate its the absolute pits!!! Some of the latex gloves are really sensitive to a lot of chemicals if you can hunt down some nitrile latex gloves they are the ones I use they last a lot longer even when doing stuff with mowers petrol oil etc. Im so keen for spring mate its so so close its crazy

After summer it's time to resow my lawn , i dont want a thick buffalo type grass. what is something i can plant that is nice and leafy/soft easy for kids to walk on in bare feet and staying green in summer without a massive water bill? Any tips for a winter grass killer in Kikuyu. My turf is 6 months old , will pre emergent have a root clipping effect on Kikuyu filling the bare spots. I mean as it creeps sideways and fills in areas, the roots that branch off the nodes into the soil, will they be prevented taking hold / clipped by the pre emergent? TIA 👍🏻

By the time you need to apply a pre emergent to control winter grass you’ll be fine to use barricade for wintergrass control quite safely on your kikuyu

Is Imazaquin or metsulfuron-methyl legal in Australia? These 2 herbicides work really well on wild onions and are widely used here in the USA.

Yeah we have metsulfuron-methyl but it’s not registered for use on the onion grass there for it’s not responsible behaviour for me to suggest it

You can actually use the cores to grow a lawn if you keep them wet enough they will root down

Been trying to identify a weed in my lawn super prevalent here in Sydney it’s a very fine leafed small clumping weed bit like a needle grass seems to grow well in Buffalo lawn and never really grows upwards, not all that unpleasant looking and reasonably easy to remove by hand but would like to know what it is to kill it off with a chemical if possible as there is so much of it.

Another great video, but perhaps some feedback for future videos: the sound effects, whilst punchy, are a bit overboard for you're showing. They would probably still work with the audio level reduced somewhat so your voice remains the dominant audio of the video.
