Nice idea. I’ve done a load of mods to mine as well. One thing I did was to weld some 3/8 nuts to the guide sections on the ram. Drilled clearance holes through the section and used nylon screws to adjust all that slop out. No more wobble and clanking. A quick dab of weld on those pins helps too. Just make sure the weld isn’t right under the table. Made a release knob. Hooked it up with a foot pedal valve so you can use both hands . Works great when using my homemade finger brake. You can purchase them from Swag but I chose to build my own. Quite easy. Put nice locking swivel casters on it too since space is limited in my shop. After all the mods it’s quite a nice set up.

Hey mate, that was a very cleaver solution to increase the diameter of the spool center. Keep those good ideas coming. I used 3mm 100% Dyneema rope. It's only a couple dollars per meter, light, flexible, very low stretch, can be spliced easily to create fixed ends or loops without the need for crimps, doesn't leave you with any nasty cuts from loose strands and has a breaking strain of something ridiculous like 1500kg.

Whoot - Whoot 👍👍😎👍👍. Quick tip I did that makes setting the pins extra easy. I dolloped a weld nugget on the pin OD to stop the pin from sliding through at just the right depth. Just find the hole and slide her in to the stop. Even chamfered the pin lead-in too. Pin is then center every time without having to look and verify. All you have to verify is that the nugget is clocked away from 12:00 so that the platform sits on the pin OD and not the blob of weld. Doesn’t lake much of a blob 😎. Make sense?

Hi Trev, yes those tables are a real pain trying to adjust. I went a different way using some bike chain and sprockets because I’ve seen a lot of cable setups turning into a shit fight after a few years but I like your setup. I'm being honest here so don't go too hard on me. Throughout this build, I couldn't help but think this project was beneath your skill level. ...I get it, welding on some bungs and painting takes some skills, but not your level of skill. I take it all back after seeing how you engineered the pully system... freaking great dude - love it! It's a great cure for the worst part of these presses. Going to tag this so I can remember it when I need it. Hope all is well down south with you and your family these days.

That is a well thought out arrangement. I did not think of your method. I would have used one cable and run it from one side to the other around a pulley and back if that makes any sense to you mate. Cheers from John, Australia.

That spool mod also means the winch pulls more cable per revolution. As it is now it's still not a particularly high geared winch, but without that mod I think it would have been painfully slow lifting/lowering the table. When I saw that replacement hub I assumed you would slice it along it's length and sink some socket bolts in it to hold it together around the original hub......... I think your way was much neater.

I bought a hand winch from Harbor freight and was wondering how to add a center divider to seperate the cable from crossing over. I pulled the cable off and cut two piece of half inch rebar about 1.5inches long. Drilled a hole through the center of one of the pieces Tack welded one and spun 180 degrees and tacked the other on the opposite side. Slightly spun the one with the hole before tacking so i could make sure the cable would go through the hole. Worked great. Now each side of the cable stays on the same side it's pulling from.

Great work! Quick question, is that how thick the 1/2 copper pipe is in AU? Assuming it was not chamfered, that is about twice as thick as what we have in the states- even for household boiler pipe.

Now you need to make pin stops for the table pins & maybe even a hole for a locking clevis so the pins don't slid through. Also a foot pedal for the air for the air over hydraulics jack and how about a finger break, Merry Christmas..!!!!

Oi “Janky piece of *hinese crap”. Lol Well I’ve got an American made press and without those mods it’s not much better. The table lift mod is what I’m working on because trying to adjust it manually crikey sucks cheap beer. Also looking into adding a electric hydraulic pump cause manually pumping to get 6 inches makes my mind wander. Thank you enjoyed your posts a lot.

You would have been better to run the right hand cable up to the top then down to the pressure table as the cable would lay better. Just my 2 cents worth.
