I think the key is to feel like you’re accelerating up through the swing instead of accelerating down into the ball. When you accelerate down you release your wrist hinge early and cast. This makes a wider arc so you have to stand up and early extend or else hit it fat. By holding your hinge and accelerating upwards you have a shorter arc and can stay down.

Great drill! I have been getting lazy and have been dragging the club after impact and not get through the shot. Been working on this with full swings and sometimes its hard to feel it. This after impact drill really helps me focus on the movement.

Thank you , Eric's a good dude, i dont know any golf instructor that has traveled the country and sharing his knowledge and the other instructors knowledge then Eric ,he has been everywhere and has a very good catalog of golf instruction check it out,, he's been relentless seeking out information on how to help us get better at golf, very very hard worker!! Thank you again for Tip big fan at taking away as much as my backswing as i can ,ive been fighting to make my backswing much easier and over the line for a long time , the mind can definitely learn if you give it a task, this exercise with the proper lower body separation is key !!

I gained 20yds per club just by someone telling me to feel like I stop 3/4 of the way to start my downswing, it’s so weird but forcing the stop at 3/4 created lag I never had with a full swing and I just started crushing the ball while swing at the same speed.

Cogorno is a favorite of mine and highly respected by the pro I go to. He is one of those I suggested when you asked your viewers to send you names. Had not seen this particular drill but will definitely try it. For sure I have lost speed and distance with age and it would be great to get another 5 or maybe 10 yards back. Craig Hanson is another favorite who also does drills to get your weight shifted to the left and uses a vertical line drawn at address to show that pros move 4 to 6 inches left while keeping the head back.

Love it . I learned something like this about 20 years ago . The teacher had me swing down slowly in transition to just past hip high with my right elbow in front of my right pocket . Once I got there .. I could swing full . Was such an odd feel . But gained tons of accuracy and about 10-15 more yards off the tee with a low running draw as my stock ball flight.

Looks like it is reducing your over the top move a bit too And. Swinging more from inside will send the ball right, so once you get control of the face you could easily pick up 10-15 yards with this. Good luck mate!

30 years ago I had a pro teach me this same basic drill, however instead of the push thru with no ball, we hit the ball, a 7 iron if you do it right carries 100 yards with a 1/4 swing - the general idea is was hit at 1/4 swing until you start hitting them well and consistent, this could be 2, 3, 10 buckets of balls, then move to half swing, until your hitting it the same over and over, then 3/4 and finally full. Now as I get older I'm very glad to have this method already drilled in my head, and when I get the shanks, I just dial things back to a half swing on the course and yep, good to go. Sure 10 yards less than a perfect full swing, But I'll take a perfect half swing and club up every day.

hands at contact should be middle of the left leg. This lowers the loft by 5 degrees. That's the only reason why. many call this compression but really it's just lowering the club loft.

That's my problem. I don't have enough club head speed to use long irons so I use hybrids for longer distance. You don't need as much club head speed with hybrids and the ball goes quite far. I only use 7-9, PW, A, wedges for irons. But I'm gonna try this drill and see if I can add my 5 and 6 irons to my list of clubs I can use.

You’re doing the drill wrong. The shaft should start from a position much more parallel to the ground. Your ab muscles should feel sore after a few swings. Look up Pelvic Punch drill, that is essentially what Eric is showing. Your just doing a 9-3 drill, which is a good drill but not what Eric was teaching in that video.
