My dad flew his 22nd mission on his 21st birthday as the Command Pilot of a B-17 Crew flying 35 missions over Italy and Germany during WWII. One time their mission was protected by the Tuskegee Airmen, which everyone of His Crew greaty appreciated. I always thought the B-17 was the coolest looking ship that I've ever seen. Dad was a Great Pilot. And He kept in touch with his Crew as the years went by which I always thought was very cool. It's awesome to see this Ship restored and flying again. God Bless these Folks for their Beautiful Efforts.

As a British person,I'd like to thank all the brave young Americans who came to the UK,and fought and in many cases died, to help liberate Europe from the tyranny of fascism during WW2. I live in the East of England where many of the US bomber bases were located. Do you happen to know where your father was based?

I'm three generations behind the ones that piloted these. There are a handful of millennials that really appreciate this technology and strive to maintain it. Granted my experience is with cars and my collection consists of some from the 1960's at the earliest, but if I was ever charged with maintaining a piece of history like this, I'd spare no expense in my efforts.

As associated with this 4 engine plane I lived about 10 miles from St.Louis airport as a child. This was 1950's when all commercial planes were same engines as this bomber. I have deep seated memory of the sound these planes made when taking off. The sound was a grand roar.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to ride in this plane. Sitting inside before takeoff, all 4 engines were run up to full throttle, the plane was shaking, and exhaust fumes filled the inside. From the inside, it felt like the plane had a lot of speed and maneuverability. Watching it from the outside, one wonders how it could stay in the air moving so slow. It gave me a new respect for the men who flew these in World War 2.

What a beautiful site. Back in the 70's and early 80's I was attached to a medium range bomber. The A-6 Intruder VA-34 BLUEBLASTERS. We worked off the JFK-CV67 and later moved over to the Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69 and broke that carrier in brand new. I totally love the nostalgia fleet. That 17 is beautiful. Years ago, she came to Great Falls, Montana (where I lived at the time). The airport there sits on a butte outside and above the city. My house was a mile or two away across the Missouri River. I was in my house when I heard a loud noise. I went outside and looked over to the airport. Sentimental Journey was spooling up her engines and she was rattling my teeth. When she took off, it was an amazing sight. I listened to planes take off from that airport dozens of times a day. But when a B-17 takes off, you really take notice. She sounded like nothing else. Unforgettable!

I live in Phoenix and have seen her several times both at the hanger and flying. The only criticism I have is that now they make you stand back a couple hundred yards when she takes off. You used to be able to stand on the edge of the runway when she flew, you could feel the ground shake as she took off. As a Huey crewchief myself it is still impressive, I was asked if I could help maintain her but was unable,to at the time, I live in west Phoenix, nearly 50 miles away from Falcon Field. I regret I said no to this day.

My Uncle Wallace Piloted several of these doing bombing runs over Germany. He was shot down three times over Germany and somehow made his way back. He told me a few things about the B-17, but all i can remember now is that once it went into a dive the odds of pulling out were very slim. A gentleman I worked with at McDonnell Douglas back in the day, had the tendons pulled out of both hands while trying to pull one of these out of a dive.

Nothing. The soldiers then had no choice. It was called the Draft. republiCONs figured out the Draft made wars deeply unpopular. No Draft all Volunteer. So AssHolx rumsfeld can blame the troops for the Army’s lack of preparedness for a conflict. And how about tube head holding up Military promotions because he like all republiCONs want to control a woman’s body and tell them what kind of health care they should receive. So why should my Sons put their life on the line for nazi cuddling CONservstives who’s OWN children won’t join the military? I would love to hear your answer. Oh and remember many CONservatives in the US up to 1940 fully embraced hitler and his cause. 95% today still do. Remember they tried to foment a Coup against Roosevelt. It was thwarted because the General they wanted to make the leader of the country was a true patriot unlike republiCONs today who went all in on another Coup attempt on Jan 6. Depending what pole you look at 65-75% of republiCONs think there was nothing wrong with Jan 6. I’ll be waiting for a Thoughtful Response

I used to talk to the pilot who flew this plane out of Falcon Field in Mesa AZ back in 1985 when I lived there next door almost. He was going to take me and a couple others up, when on a practice flight, it had to belly land, because a landing gear never came down. I moved a year or two later and never got to go up. I knew they rebuilt her. I always wished I would have gotten a ride. I'm 65 now and live in Oregon. Does anyone remember her in AZ?

I got to ride on this very B-17 about 20 years ago at Gilespie Field in El Cajon. The crew chief told me that 3 of the engines were made by Studebaker.

Sadly it looks like Sentimental Journey is currently the only flying B-17 since the Yankee Air Museum has grounded the Yankee Lady for wing spar issues and waiting for the FAA to come out with a derivative since there several B-17's with wing spar issues.

She is a beautiful sight! I took a ride on her back in 2007. Was the funniest thing I ever did. Landed I was in the front over the bomb site. So cool!
