3:32 In 1985, all three leading actresses were nominated for their roles as country women. Jessica has said that she felt that her and Sissey Spacey's films had a better message and content than Sally Fields's. So you can see that she would have been happy when Robert introduced Sissey Spacek, I think she would have been happy and convinced if Sissey had won that night. And in May 2024, she said that Geraldine Page and Kim Stanley were two actresses who influenced her acting, she learned acting from them so she easily said Geraldine Page's name when the introducer said "the greatest actress in English movies". Anyway, I think you should add the part where Jessica Lange lost the Oscar to Jessica Tandy in 1990 instead of this one. Because she freaked out for a second when Gregory Peck said "Oscar goes to Jessica...", which was funny! lol

If Brian does another “Best Oscar Announcements” , I hope that it includes back when Anne Bancroft announced the Oscar win to Sidney Poitier for Best Actor in “Lillies Of The Field”! Sidney Poitier made history by being the first black actor to win the Oscar and Anne’s warm embrace to Sidney was controversial at the time. Seeing a white women exchanging polite kisses on the cheek to a black and her showing genuine happiness for him caused an outrage during the 1960’s Civil Rights Era! Anne Bancroft did not care about the controversy and she was in the right side of history and that moment is forever captured on film!

Great video. It's odd when everyone expects the loser narrative to prevail and give the Oscar to Glenn Close or Lauren Bacall when, in hindsight, they lost to better performances. Also, what the hell is Sylvester Stallone so grumpy about losing as a first time actor to Peter Finch's all-time great performance? (And not to mention De Niro in Taxi Driver!) He only went on to make an entire career about the same movie and then, AGAIN, be disappointed to be snubbed for playing the same role in Creed!

Love this. You really know your Oscars. The Sylvester Stallone is my favorite. I came across that clip years ago, and thought it was hilarious. He's clearly blown away that they gave it to Finch, and seemingly surprised that he didn't win. Kind of egotistical, if so, being that he was literally the new kid on the block. I wanted to draw attention to a loser reaction that doesn't really qualify, as it happens before the winner is announced, although the same actor does give a memorable reaction afterwards, too. To me, it's one of the funniest reactions, ever, and I've NEVER come across any mention of it, which tells me that almost no one noticed. It's for Best Supporting Actress 1992 , one of the biggest upsets, all time, to the point of ensuing "conspiracy theories", as you well should know. Before the winner is announced, Jack Palance tells that terrific joke about how this is the first time in Academy history that FIVE foreign actresses were nominated in the same category, "Four from England, and one from Brooklyn". Truly funny, though it has one problem, and if you pay attention to Judy Davis (who was, as I recall, the odds-on favorite to win), she points out the flaw. You can clearly see her say "I'm not British", and then sort of laugh and shrug it off, because, yeah, she's Australian. Then, when Marisa Tomei is announced as the winner, she also gives a very notable shocked reaction, not ungracious, like Stallone, just shocked, which is a great stand-in for everyone's surprise. Anyway, it's so great, and the irony is delicious, again, because it's such a great joke that turns out to be wholly innacurate.

Here's the deal: don't look fake happy, don't look straight up pissed. It's fine to look disappointed and politely clap. These two thing, to me, come off as genuine. It's not fake to clap to someone who deserves. It's not fake to be disappointed. And all in all, it's charming to lose with grace. You're not all of a sudden a bad actor because you lost an award. And trust me, being deemed as a bad actor is way worse than losing a trophy.

Now Why in God's Name Would She Something Like That? You know, I'm feeling sorry for her. Really I do. If there's no love in film music, nobody in the world won't be able to song at all. Rudy Iraheta asks me if I can sing and I say, "I'll tried just a little bit." And she was fair enough to understand. I did a lot of vocals on my CD player because I was a great fan of many wonderful artists such as Judy Rodman, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Patsy Cline, Earl Thomas Conley, Alabama, Sylvia, Mandy Barnett, Highway 101, Deborah Allen, The Judds, David Frizzell, Monica Mancini, Celine Dion and more. That's one of the reasons why I have a beautiful mind, a great sense of humor and most of all, a brilliant point of view. So it's easy to see why I can practice even better to sing along without losing my temper. But it helps me relaxed a whole lot more - just like at home! That's All.

Stallone's arrogance at the Rocky year Oscars was off the charts. it was known that since the movie;s release he became this obnoxious, big headed jerk who no doubt turned off some Oscar voters. Also, he may not have even been in second place. Both William Holden and Robert DeNiro were also considered possible winners. Although not a Stallone fan I must admit that he did deserve to win for Creed. He reaction to not winning there may be the best acting he's even done.

Funny, when Sally Field won for Places, it's Judy Davis who has the more interesting reaction, IMHO.

Stallone didn’t expect to win at all, he’s said so in various interviews due to him being a complete nobody in the industry until Rocky, so with that success he had, it was unexpected, just like the multiple Academy Award nominations the film got, especially when the film won Best Editing, Best Director and especially Best Picture. It could have been he expected someone like Robert De Niro to win, so when Peter Finch was announced as the winner, he was surprised to hear Finch’s name instead. Also, Russell Crowe never punched anyone at BAFTA, he went to who was in charge of that years ceremony, trashed the place and yelled at the guy for cutting his speech off.

The worst thing about the Oscars is how often they have nominated the mediocrity that is Dianne Warren. The best thing about the Oscars is making Warren show up over and over just to lose to a song written and performed by people with actual talent.

I’m sorry but I don’t think someone should win a competitive Oscar simply because they are a legend and “let’s give them one already.” Lauren Bacall’s performance in The Mirror has Two Faces, was a fine performance in a meh movie that was panned by critics. It was not deserving of a nomination let alone a win.

It’s monday morning quarterbacking by the academy when they realize they had good opportunities to award the actor or actress in the past and overlooked doing so. They think they can make up for it with these “legacy” nods. Stanwyck was always robbed of a competitive oscar because she wouldn’t play ball with the studio system, and they ended up giving her an honorary one around 1981

2022 : JK Simmons -- hands down....no -- hands up! When Jeff actor Troy Kotsur wins Best Supporting Actor for CODA, Simmons gives the American Sign Language sign for "respect/honor." Kotsur was heavily favored to win that year. So you know that Simmons planned and practiced that reaction. I thought it was eminently cool

Stallone didn't really have any reaction - he looked exactly the same before and after the announcement. Really he looked in a compete daze the whole time. Not disrespectful but out somewhere in space.

Diane Warren reactions are a reason alone to watch the oscars. My favourite Warren reaction was when H.E.R.won. Diane's reaction was one of total contempt.

I could watch like 20 of these videos. Underrated/unexpected reaction is Glenn when Meryl won for The Iron Lady. She is shocked but looks absolutely thrilled. Though that reaction isn’t well documented because for some reason the Academy KZbin video starts right as Meryl takes the stage. Lame.
